  • The 3rd and final part. This is replacing the expansion or header tank. Simple job to do and I show the small crack/leak underneath.
This video is done in near realtime so not a difficult job to do.
Part 2 of the coolant issues!
This is the 2011 1.2 petrol Vauxhall (Opel) Corsa Mark 3 (D) 16V.

Fantastic video. I’m doing a coolant on my corsa 2010. Taking ages for the water to go through the expansion tank.

Hi Andy , great informative set of vidoes. Did you find it necessary to replace the water pump in the end in regards to the noise . My daughters corsa is acting very similar so just ordered a thermostat although I am mindful the water pump may not be pumping although there are no noises noticable as yours had ?
    Regards Barry

Hi Barry, no I didn't need to replace the pump, the slight noise was due to the water being pulled through after the work.
No constant noise I can hear when running. You can check it's pumping, make sure pipes get hard when running and you get a slight flow shown in expansion bottle. Good luck hope you sort it

I have a leak on that side.. can't see where it's coming from. It's definitely coolant and not the windscreen washer bottle. Is the header bottle cracking the likely cause?

Sounds likely. The overflow pipe is there too though as I mention on the video so it could be that it's boiling over so something to watch for

    Hi Andy,
Do you know what could be causing the gunk build up in the coolant expansion tank as I have a similar problem?

It will either be the coolant is really old and has become sludgy or your oil heat exchanger seal has gone and would need replacing.

Did you figure out what the 'rattling' was from the aux belt/water pump?

Hi, so I'm still not 100% sure on the noise, it may be due to air being in the water pump whilst it was circulating initially. The noise went away and hasn't come back. I'm going to put it down to the water pump running with little water in it. The only other thought I had was if the timing chain tensioner is going bad, but since it's not happened again I don't think this is the case. Thanks for commenting :-)

Sounds like a solid theory, could be trapped air as can needs to be ran with cap off and 2k revs and also when filling the radiator bleed valve should be opened until coolant comes out. But just keep an eye on it mate, as corsaS are known for water pump failure so.coukd be an early indicator, but they do usually start misting and make a continual sound once failing.

hello Andy, in my corsa 2013 the electro radiator fan turns on at 108 degrees celcius reaching a maximum of 110 degrees, is that normal in a corsa? What is the normal temperature in these cars?

Hi there, yes that's perfectly normal, I have seen my temps hit 114.

hi do you know the torque settings for thermostat bolts and the other housing bolts on the right side

Hi Justin, depending on the engine you have, most torque settings are here but you'll need to browse for your engine variation:
