Adult June: My parents have been understanding and supportive of my relationship with Leo ever since we were teenagers. I love my family and friends so much 💓
Ethan represents loss of control they've had over their adult daughter. Which they shouldn't really be clinging to anyway, that's just creepy. They have no true respect for her, and Ethan does.
I never understood a parent's need to control a child's life once they are an adult. My mom had always told me to that she did. He wanted me to make my own decisions, but secretly needed every single one, including the those that I dated. A fewI understood and regret not listening to her over. But several made no sense. I understand that some parents don't want their children to make the same mistakes like using my mom as an example.
Offering counsel is one thing parents can do, especially if asked. (I think that's what most children would want, at least from good parents.) The problems arise, though, when the parents demand complete input and absolute obedience from their ADULT children on every matter.
The religion thing was kind of a clue. Maybe she is Jewish? Tradition is pretty strong in such communities. I don't see different sects of Christians getting hostile. Even Catholics and Protestants.
Matters on her religion and situation, cant say anything without more knowledge, people tend to say stories only in ways that benefit their mindset and what they want.
You know, family, big families don't actually unite over issues like this. There're too many opinions, and too many factors in life, and too many individual perspectives. Calling your siblings "they" is just wrong. If you don't make it clear that someone uses that pronoun, use the biological one. THAT is the proper convention.
I think you’re being dramatic and sensitive. She didn’t want to use their names, so what? There is nothing wrong with the pronouns that she used. She simply talked about them, without using their name.
The parents appear to be the classic classist parents that approve of no one unless they have the same wealth and upbringing.

How many children do they have that they can afford to lose TWO daughters?
Your boyfriend has the patience of god.If I even had half of his patience I would have avoided a lot fights.
These parents think they're too important for the rest of us humans.

Are we in Pre-K
Avoid the story, the narrator is annoying and the story goes nowhere.
