So often games are based on the graphics and the gameplay itself. They are indeed important, but the most underrated and forgotten component I think is the music. It is essential for the game's atmosphere. Stellaris is a game that has just that perfect soundtrack to match its gameplay. Really a piece of art, mister Waldetoft. Thank you so much!
Movies? Don't make me laugh! Few movies even have memorable soundtracks. Its all very bound to actions on the screen and to the temp tracks directors using. Composers of game soundtracks have a lot more creative freedom, then they do soundtracks hence it produces great variety of soundracks a lot of which are trully great. Movie soundracks a copied from movie to movie and taking a back seat
It is a fantastic soundtrack. If you have to compare, I would agree with Betaflow. When it comes to this soundtrack specifically, it definitely rivals, and beats most movie soundtracks. /3yearOldComment
So many people compare this music to the one from Mass Effect. I have never played Mass Effect, but this track sounds great! It definitely creates a rich science fiction atmosphere. I am happy that we can play Stellaris with good original music.
+redsimonDE Mass effect has one of the best ost i have ever heard, so it's a compliment, if you like sci-fi you have to play mass effect, it's like a videogame star trek
I was right to expect wonders from the creator of Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis soundtracks. This must be the best OST I have ever enjoyed. I can't name a track that didn't fit the whole. A fluent mix between Daft Punk's Tron soundtrack, Mass Effect and Interstellar with clear influence from Vangelis, Deus Ex and countless of other notalgia invoking sources I can't quite name; a fresh mix between all of them that yet creates new tunes to the sci-fi theme. Something that depicts both the mysteries and dangers of the vast black yonder and the ecstasy of uncovering them. Melodies full of optimism waiting to be turned to the slight note of underlying despair and hope by your neighboring fanatic purifiers. This is by far the best possible soundtrack a game like this could have recieved. Thank you for making it a reality.
Kudos to you Andreas! I sometimes feel that the people making music in games are, at times, forgotten in the scheme of things, but music do so much for the setting and gameplay without people noticing it. Good work!
This is the right choice of ambient music you would want to have run in the background during the game. Awesome :) I really hope there is one ore more "characteristic" theme for the game. A song for the main menu and trailers you hear and immediately can connect to the game. Compareable to the main themes of Star Trek or Star Wars for example. It's not easy for a videogame, but Civ4 managed to do so with Baba Yetu.
I just wanted to say I have never cared about the music in a game until this. You have an incredible talent for sci fi sound. I can't hear this without imagining traveling to far away worlds. Thank you for all your hard work!
Excellent. A good soundtrack is a large part of what helps immerse me in a game, and considering that I have a personal problem with sticking around for long enough in this kind of game to truly get into the meat of things, good sound could be the difference between me playing hundreds of hours of this or getting quickly bored after a couple of hours - before I manage to discover the true depth or quality of the experience.
I saw posting of this on a devblog. This is AMAZE! I can totally hear 80s sounds and it smells like Mass Effect 1 to me. It has this classic sci-fi feel to it. You know how I know it's great and I love it? I get chills while listening to it! :D
Listening to this while downloading the game... Sir, hats off for your amazing performance and to your orchestra! Now I will go play the game soon and I will come back here in a year and say that your soundtrack still has me pumped!
I'm getting Deus Ex vibe from this and I'm loving it! Kudos to you Mr Waldetoft, I enjoy greatly music you made for CK2 and EU4 but this is perhaps one of the best pieces you made so far :)
You're the composer? You did *amazing* work in this game's OST. I love every second of it, this one is especially my favorite. Thank you for composing these beautiful melodies!
Dear sir Waldetoft, will there be a live concert that we can attend in person? Because, I'm utterly in love with this masterpiece of music. The entire Stellaris OST feels so grand and overwhelming, and like nothing else I've ever heard. It's so imaginative, and brings inspiration and joy.
+Jonne Jääskeläinen Sounds more like 7/4 to me; a (4+3)/4. There's clearly 7 equal beats per measure (each subdivided in two), 7/8 would be 3 beats with the 3rd one being longer.
+MethylOrange42 Actually no, either 7/4 or 7/8 would be 7 equal beats per measure. Just in the case of 4, those 7 beats would be quavers(1/4th of a whole note), and in the case of 8 they would be semiquavers(1/8th of a whole note).
Love your work, ever since "a cruce victoria" but I love Vangelis too and I'm so happy you are taking this route with your new music. Awesome, love it.
+AndreasWaldetoft I guess you are the composer :) This song is simply a reel masterpiece, Hans Zimmer, Claus Babelt, Ramin Djawadi, Howard Shore, John Williams would be proud. I admire and love the universe and everything in it, but this song really gives me the shivers (lookin up at the nightsky while listening to this song). Keep up the good work, and PLEASE continue to create music for me/us/the rest of the world! :D
I don't know this game and discovered this randomly. But it's pretty good music and I like games with good musics. Looks like a space RTS or some kind of management / strategy game like Anno. This is dope.
its an insanely good game, where every other Nation is randomly generated, and every other species has thier own traits, eacgame is unique. Its quite a breath of fresh air compared to other 4x rts games like Civ or Endless Space, GalCiv, where you always encounter the same nations/species
Mylaur realistically speaking, the game had a lot more potential but fails to deliver mid game since there's no mid game structure. it's only the research and discovery that drives you to play it for hours until you might just get bored
+Andreas Waldetoft This music is so nice and chill to have playing in the background. I like! I just wanted to give you cheers for the CK2 soundtrack "Thor" (from The Old Gods). Its so amazing, and loops so well in the background. (May I ask, Where did you take inspiration for it?)
+Andreas Waldetoft Congratulations, I've listened to this piece like 20 times since I read the dev diary on Paradox's forums. It's far more atmospheric than the music in EU or HOI series so I think this'll be the first paradox game that I won't turn off the music after 10h or so when it starts to grate on my ears.
Greetings Andreas Waldetoft, I would like to tell you how much more listening to this track made me excited about Stellaris! I love listening to epic music and game or movie soundtracks but I have become quite sensitive about the quality of those. A good game soundtrack has to bring up pictures of the game in your head, when you listen to it. And To the Ends of the Galaxy does exactly that! Even if I obviously didn't play the game yet, this track brings up the same feeling in me as all those amazing Stellaris gameplay videos on TH-cam do. Listening to it and imagining I can't wait to listen to what else you have put into Stellaris. :)
+CptHer Thank you so much, thats very kind of you. I can tell you that I tried my best to recapture that feeling I had as a kid looking up at the stars and wondering what is up there. I really hope you guys will like Stellaris and the rest of the music. Cheers!
+Andreas Waldetoft Yes, you capture that feeling perfectly. And I just realized that a part of my comment is missing. No idea how that did happen, but I was going to say that when I am listening to To the Ends of the Galaxy and I am closing my eyes so the music can draw my imagination, it makes me feel like I am sitting in a big but silent room with only the stars illuminating my surroundings through a massive window into space.
I feel lonely because no one around me understands it, music has been my whole life for seven years, and especially with this song I often cried, this song is the most important in my life, I have no words to describe the beauty of this whole soundtrack, greetings Seba From Poland
Since I just realized that Andreas Waldetoft has his own TH-cam channel, I'll grab this opportunity to say....... **ahem** OH MY FUCKING GOD I LOVE YOUR FUCKIN' SOUNDTRACKS MAN! Seriously, your Stellaris work is a masterpiece!
Huge fan of your music tracks. Although i'm not interested in these kind of space games, i will certainly buy a nova edition of HOI IV if that becomes available.
Stellaris is the only game where i use the in-game music in place of my normal metal stuff...... Fucking epic job with the music paradox, it fits the game so well and is great on its own as well!
"Dangerous Technology"...... DONT KLICK THIS BUTTON!! too late... Great Game idea + Awesome Music = Epic Game. ( Music Composed by Andreas Waldetoft with appearances by the Brandenburg State Orchestra and Mia Stegmar)
I'm actually anticipating this soundtrack just as keenly as the game itself. That is, VERY keenly. This is gorgeous stuff and if the rest of it is as good, I'll be listening to this soundtrack for a long time to come.
The soundtrack might be one of the biggest reason for me to get this game, im not a fan of these kind of games myself but it looks interesting, i love sci-fi and well, the soundtrack is totally my style.
Great track, and very similar to Mass Effect as has been mentioned but also great similarity to Deus Ex and X-COM, which is fantastic. This is the kind of music space should be explored to! Looking forward to the release of the game and more music like this!

ikr
Really? Maybe its just me, but I've always found that games produce the best music.
Often times music is desiding factor for me
I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite music on the Citadel.
+Ohyeahhh444 Oh references :D
Is that stargate or Mass Effect?
defiantly Mass Effect :-)
it goes so well with Mass Effect :D
Okay seriously. The Stellaris soundtrack rivals that of movies.
+Dean Hw I got a huge Interstellar vibe during my 8 hour binge last night.
Absolutely majestic.

absolutely To the Ends of the Galaxy is my fav so far
A. Waldetoft has crafted some very serious music for Paradox. You can also check the EU III soundtrack for vey inspiring pieces.
+thoth8888 It also has (for me) one of the best story arcs in video game history...but thats because it's a BioWare game...those guys are geniuses
Mass Effect : You can't save them all
@@xyloshock3968 But i can bloody well try.
I was right to expect wonders from the creator of Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis soundtracks. This must be the best OST I have ever enjoyed. I can't name a track that didn't fit the whole. NullQuery I didn't play any of those games. Heck, I haven't even played Stellaris! But I f***ing love this soundtrack.
You are a true Master.
From Russia with love.
(Btw, felt the Vangelis and 80s inspiration before read about it in the diary :) It's amazing.
Davin2014 I agree!
From Norway with love
I preordered Stellaris after listening to this. Amazing!
I was amazed when I first heard this piece 6 years ago and it still amazes me when listening to it today.
Such brilliant work ❣️
Kudos to you Andreas! I sometimes feel that the people making music in games are, at times, forgotten in the scheme of things, but music do so much for the setting and gameplay without people noticing it. Good work!
You really succeeded with this one, lost track how many times I have listened to it after the dev diary. :)
This is the right choice of ambient music you would want to have run in the background during the game. Awesome :)
I really hope there is one ore more "characteristic" theme for the game. A song for the main menu and trailers you hear and immediately can connect to the game. Compareable to the main themes of Star Trek or Star Wars for example.
It's not easy for a videogame, but Civ4 managed to do so with Baba Yetu.
Great piece of music and a very good fit to a game like Stellaris. I hope there will be a soundtrack album available for purchase!
+Michael “Stargazer” Wolf I think theres a good chance there will be. Thanks btw. :)
the soundtrack is included in the digital.deluxe edition
+Michael “Stargazer” Wolf Soundtracks are available for EU4 and CK2, so I think there's a high probability we will get an official soundtrack release.
Can´t wait anymore my body is ready and willing!
I really like your sound tracks for every game Andreas Waldetoft.
The 80's feels are real, well done. This game was already a must-buy, and the OST just adds to that :D
Congrats, Waldetoft¡ Great soundtrack, like always. You're incappable of disapoint the fans.

It's like Mass Effect and Deus Ex had a really awesome musical baby.

This is magnificent thank you!
Amazing soundtrack! When I listen to the most of tracks from Stellaris OST album I have goosebumps and tears in my eyes!
Ta muzyka jest dla mnie najważniejsza dziękuję nie mógłbym bez niej żyć
I'm getting Deus Ex vibe from this and I'm loving it! Kudos to you Mr Waldetoft, I enjoy greatly music you made for CK2 and EU4 but this is perhaps one of the best pieces you made so far :)

You're the composer? You did *amazing* work in this game's OST. I love every second of it, this one is especially my favorite. Thank you for composing these beautiful melodies!
This is 100 Space% what I want from Stellaris' music, I love it.
(PS Space Falalalan pls?)
THIS MUSIC IS SO GOOD AND THE GAME IS SO GOOD.
Thank you for this track, Andreas. I can't stop listening to 0:56-1:15 !
Oh yeah, that is the sound that I want for Stellaris! Great song!
You sir, are a glorious composer
Thank you for this work! It's amazing! I will be looking forward to the game that would plunge into its atmosphere for your music!
You nailed the sci-fi atmosphere on its head
Dear sir Waldetoft, will there be a live concert that we can attend in person? Because, I'm utterly in love with this masterpiece of music.

thank you Andreas for this masterpiece of a soundtrack. I'm blown away every time I play the game.
7/4 in a game soundtrack.
+Melchior Beta I think it's actually 7/8. Regardless, I enjoy me some extended time signatures.
+Jonne Jääskeläinen ah yes, you're probably right
+Jonne Jääskeläinen Sounds more like 7/4 to me; a (4+3)/4. There's clearly 7 equal beats per measure (each subdivided in two), 7/8 would be 3 beats with the 3rd one being longer.

This is a masterpiece, you have done a great job, keep going
I upgraded my order just to get the OST. Fantastic work man!

Fantastic work Mr. Waldetoft!
I hope to create a space opera worthy of a soundtrack like this some day.
Great track Subscribed!
I'll be listening this for a long time! Great soundtrack, looking forward to the full soundtrack in game
Thanks for the always great job! This is amazing :)
This is exactly the kind of music I expect in my scifi games. Wonderful! Now if I only had a time machine....
This is so awesome!

Well done. =)
Huge fan of your music tracks. Although i'm not interested in these kind of space games, i will certainly buy a nova edition of HOI IV if that becomes available.
I can hear Vangelis and Mass Effect. Vangelis one of my favorites in music.
Nice soundtrack, can't wait to hear more from it Andreas. :)

Can`t wait, great music Andreas
Really looking forward to this gaem, looks excellent, I personally Hope it becomes the new benchmark by which other space 4x games are compared to
