    Mine has arrived and I love it! Thanks so much for sharing this information and your incredibly useful example code.
    I noticed that the image header format is slightly different in the image scroll demo but I got an image to scroll nicely eventually.
    The Test example would not run at first but after a quick bit of research I updated my TFT_eSPI library to version 2.50 in Arduino and it's working great now.

      As near as I can tell, this display is maybe 350 nits. How do you think it would work in bright sunlight? I was considering transflectives, but there's few options at the size I need. This is a little small for my neeeds, but the resolution is good.

    Thank you for showing the new screen sir! You’re making me spend a lot of money. I now have the TTGO T-Display, T-Display S3, both T-QT’s and the T-HMI.
    Looks like I’ll be buying this also.
    For LVGL you need the LVGL folder in your Arduino libraries and you need the LV.config to be outside the LVGL folder.
    If you are using square it is just easier to change the preferences from Arduino\libraries to the specified folder but in that case all you need to do is copy the LVGL folder over to the libraries folder and take the LV.config file and place it outside the LVGL folder.
    Let me know and I’ll make a private video of how it works. It was a bit of a nightmare for me u til I got it right.
    All that aside, I have learned so much from your videos and code that I can never thank you enough. Maybe I can help you with the LVGL thing as I am sure with your experience, you can create amazing UI’s using Squareline.
    Take care for now and keep it up! You are helping us more than we can ever show you.

      @@VolosProjectsI would second this, I've been using SquareLine for a few months and it's pretty good. It's not perfect, for example a few important LVGL components are missing so you have to add them with code, still it's a great way to prototype UIs and quickly build demo code of how to implement various styles in LVGL. I've also noticed that the UI on device doesn't always match the editor, especially with nested components. I'm not sure what their release cycle is like, it's possible these things will improve over time.

    You always make sense to many of us. I've used many of your examples and found them to be spot on. I still have troubles but I am learning.
    I am struggling to make a computer interface from a fancy fuel injected CAN-BUS drivetrain so I can install it in a 2002 Tahoe vehicle. To make it easier I use a MEGA2560 for A/D sensor inputs, switches and PWM motor controllers and MOSFET outputs. I keep this separate as I am not an experienced programmer. Then I am using I2C to the LILYGO T-Display-S3 for display. This avoids an excessive interrupts and library conflicts; I hope.
    I see your link is out of stock so will check back later.
    Soon I will add an RP2040 with dual CAN-BUS and hope I can translate between the computers messages.
    Things are progressing well - Thank You for the help

    Do you think you might look over the "WT32-SC01-Plus" board in the near future? It's 3.5" Capacitive Touch ESP32, all in one. The "Plus" version skips IO access for faster frame rate. It seems impressive for $30.

    • @stevy2
      @stevy2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's the best dev board that I've tried. You can get 60fps on it with simple graphics and LVGL will run between 20-40 fps which is pretty impressive for the resolution. I thought the similarly sized makerfabs display would be better with its 16 bit parallel display but the lack of PSRAM can be pretty limiting. The makerfabs board has much better documentation, though. I ended up referencing random github repos to figure out how to get the WT32's display to work. Biggest downside is the lack of a flash button so if your upload fails it will boot loop and you've got to assign the port just before the code finishes compiling, hoping it happens to be connected the very moment the flash begins. It takes several tries and it's a pain in the ass.

    This display looks great, the difference is clearly noticeable. I'm worried about its lifetime though, AMOLED screens are notorious for burn-in issues and I don't think it would be a good idea to leave it on for long periods of time. It also looks like this version doesn't have touch support, and that it's only an option for the LCD model at this time. Finally I wish the LilyGO boards had at least _some_ sort of mounting elements, even if it was just a few holes. I find that their absence makes it a lot more difficult to design enclosures for projects, unfortunately.

    • @shams350z
      @shams350z ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've got 2 of these boards now and one has been left on pretty much permanently for about 6 weeks with some bright static elements. I see no burn in (or really 'fatigue' of the blue subpixels). Under normal circumstances I would never do this but as a test the results are encouraging. I added a brightness control to the driver code so dimming all the way down to zero is possible and perhaps useful for 'always on but asleep at 10% brightness'. The default lilygo brightness is set lower than max. I would avoid max (0xFF) as it's ridiculously bright and probably not long term healthy for both the display and your pork pies. The software dimming gets a little shimmery at low brightness as it uses PWM which seems to strobe with display refresh a bit. There is a better approach using DC control but it would require a slight hardware revision by Lilygo.
      I'm told that touch models are coming. Lilygo already showed off a amoled version of the Touch-Bar on Twitter.
      Yes mounting is a pain. But since amoled has none of the horrid side bleed of backlit TFT which we feel we must mask with bezels etc, I'm delighted to leave the whole board in plain sight in a clear acrylic enclosure. The headers are secure enough and you can use a right angle USB C to panel extender as strain relief.

      @@HadrienDorfman-n8j Thanks for that. I'm very enthusiastic about these boards as I've wanted esp/amoled for a long time. TFT is great most of the time but for some of those more artistic projects, a cool bedside clock or a faux nixie or flickering candle you don't want the backlight to give the game away. The colours and pixel density are also a massive upgrade. I hope more maker boards start to feature amoled.

    I clicked on this video so fast! The display looks real nice and will give people more flexibility in their designs with all that extra screen resolution. Your demos are also improving greatly too. QUESTION: is there any significative difference in brightness among the T-display-S3-AMOLED and the T-display-S3 ?
    I would like to use it for an outdoor application, for example under direct sunshine.
    I plan to add a (very) generous sunshield around the display (top+left+right), the same I wonder what would be the best choice between these two displays.

Well that's why I'm writing this message, with the ability to display 30-50 fps would that mean that it would be possible to have a camera feeding a live image to the screen? I'm talking about a camera connected directly to the board physically not via wifi.
    I want to make a viewfinder or digital monocular.
    Thanks

    Hi Volos, Great projects! However I am stuck when I try to modify the ImageScroll sketch you made. It always ends up looking not good. I am sure I am putting in all the right variables tho... Could you maybe make a video explaining how to draw just a picture to the screen of the Lilygo T-display-S3 AMOLED? It would be of great help!

    Can you describe us the way that you form those projects ? Is there any template ? like a state machine or task scheduling like RTOS etc.

    Anyone has any idea why my display just died? I can upload examples, but the display does not show anything. Even writing a simple code to fill screen - display does not work. I even uploaded factory firmware to check display - it shows all the status information, but the screen is just black.

    Can you temporarily remove the graphics screen in order to solder header pins to the bottom of the board?

    • @3Dsfinfo
      @3Dsfinfo ปีที่แล้ว

      The display and its acrylic frame are held in place with three pieces of thick gel tape. You'd need to cut those tape pieces through and remove them, then replace them when you'd finished soldering. You'd also need to be really careful since the ZIF socket and the ribbon cable are really fragile.
      Or just solder down from the outside of the display, very carefully!

    I am a huge fan of your work Volos! Your teaching skills are fantastic and you should be proud. I'm having some issues with Transparency and Sprites with the Amoled Screen using TFT_eSPI library using Rick's drivers. Colours work great until I use TFT_BLACK transparency parameter to push them onto another sprite. When I do this, I get inverted colours on the sprite being pushed. TFT_Blue looks red and TFT_Red looks blue etc. Have you had this happen to you? I'm going a bit crazy trying to figure it out 😅

    • @tiv-personal
      @tiv-personal ปีที่แล้ว

      You know, sometimes talking out loud makes you think of the solution. Only minutes after writing this comment I found that the issue was the .setSwapBytes function. I'm not sure exactly how the .setSwapBytes works in nested sprites (ie if some sprites need it swapped and others don't). That may be an idea of a more advanced video 😊

    Production Tip:
    Your audio track is filled with "plosives". These are caused when you pronounce words containing letters such as "p" and the sudden expulsion of air strikes your microphone.
    The solution is to position a "pop filter" between your mouth and the microphone. Typically, these are very inexpensive. The designs vary from a perforated disk to a piece of fabric stretched over a hoop.
