I just wanna say thank you for making this video. Im a huge fan of yours cuz our names are the same and we’re both from Mass. I live in Florida now near Tampa. I reached out to you on Facebook shortly after you top’d this event and you actually responded back to me which I thought was the coolest thing ever, which I’ll never forget.
This Hero deck set the standard for skill drain heros moving forward. So many people copied this list and had reasonable success with it. Few players can say they defined an archetype the way this profile shaped hero decks during this time. Great video.
You are the Goat Joe! For this deck that i meet you and until today i considered you one of the best players and strategist in the game no matter how years past though this game. Thanks for the amazing content. :D
This is such a special video. I remember reading the coverage and remember seeing your name and decklist in the top decks list. I feel some weird sense of pride watching your video today. Btw, I was the one who mentioned it would be great to see you play Edison format on another video. Looking forward to it.
Gabe Perez was the other player to make Top 4 and he was playing Piper Chaos. Wilson Tsang made Top 8 with his Horn of the Phantom Beast beatdown deck that sided into Wind-Ups.
Between inzektor, dark world, GK, etc you should have run 3 shadow mirror, that might've given you the win. I could easily see cutting smashing or chalice for another
Why no Upstart Goblin (3) or Honest (1)? I’m assuming just no room for upstart and honest was only good when you had a monster but even then it could be easily played around? Idk just curious your thought on that. I’m looking to take this deck to a September 2011 format so I’d play trap Dustshoot over second TT and debating if something like call off the haunted would be nice
So... I decided against cards like Honest because it relies so heavily on other cards. This deck has enough of those (Spark, Blast, etc). This was also a bit before the time of Upstart being a borderline staple. I also would argue the need to "beatdown" before combo decks went off might make the 1K life more meaningful than maybe other decks.
I alternated between a modified version of your list and Electrum OTK until Dragon Rulers came out. Super Poly was the MVP. If only Escuridao had come out a little earlier...
This deck list caused a great deal of pain to many opposing players at my local shops. Thanks for the video, Joe.
Darn man, I could hear the nostalgia in your voice in that last bit.
It is real!

Awesome to hear! Once a MA duelist - always a MA duelist.

I appreciate that. This was absolutely influenced from other deckbuilders though.
This is the deck that basically got me hooked on competitive yugioh (followed by bubblebeat). So thank you for getting me addicted to this game Joe

I appreciate the kind words!

Been looking forward to this one! Great retrospective as always good sir
Glad you enjoyed it!
Both Gabe Perez and Wilson Tsangs' decks from this event are legendary.
What did they play?
Gabe Perez was the other player to make Top 4 and he was playing Piper Chaos.
Wilson Tsang made Top 8 with his Horn of the Phantom Beast beatdown deck that sided into Wind-Ups.
Those decks were wild.
I love some of the Rarity choices in this deck! The Secret Rare Duality in particular, but the Miracle Fusions are also nice.
Those are the exact cards from Long Beach too.
Trip down memory lane seeing this build
I dont play anymore but i can always appreciate a good informative video
I appreciate that
Only reason I made this exact deck back in the day 🙏♥️
I played this deck!!! I switched to Bubble Beat soon after. Would love to see that next.

Thanks for the deck profile and great stories!
do you think a new version of this deck could come back now that skill drain is at 3?
I wish there were a way to make decks like thjs work nowadays... at least Thunder King might still be relevant in a way.
Me too!
If i want to play a third copy of skill drain what do tuo Think is the best card to cut
Side it going first - but if you just needed to main it. Maybe ECall.
Minor note, you put 2014 in the video title. 🐐
Fixed! Thanks.

Very true.

make a video about yugioh aaccesories, like calculator cases, spellgraounds, white sleeves, arg calculators, strikerzone calculators
I am not sure exactly what I could say. I only really own a few of those.
My love after Tengu Plants
Why did you choose this over cards like bubbleman and a hero lives?
Consistency. Most hands with this deck are streamlined.
@@YGOHistory Thanks for the response. Was bubble beat the standard hero deck at the time?
@@Olin112 I’d say it was 60/40 for Hero Beat
:)
You know the power of this deck.
@@YGOHistory Only the right sort of madman could wield the power of the these divine heros.
