My Freelander made that noise, a few month back when I fitted a 'new' but really cheap aftermarket (Not branded either) low pressure diesel pump. It had a Bosch one originally, so I re-fitted it and can't hear it whinging on anymore.👍

Hi Derek, Try the bleed procedure and if it's then quiet after you do it the usual causes are injector seals allowing exhust gases into the fuel system or a prous fuel filter housing.
    Regards

Hi Dave. Starts too well and runs too well to be injector seals . . .yet!

My disco was the same when bought it. Got a genuine VDO one for it. The garage that fitted it showed me the old pump which was a cheap brand. Needless to say it has been silent since it has been fitted.

Did the new filter come with a plastic drain-plug in the bottom?
The water sensor is made of brittle plastic and they tend to split at the bottom of the thread so it's worth keeping the normal drain plug somewhere handy so you can remove a split sensor and plug the hole.
In person, does the pump sound like it does in the videos?
Microphones pick up some frequencies better than others and it might just be that it sounds noticeable on video.
Just sounds like an aftermarket pump to me, though.
The OEM VDO pumps are nice and quiet but ALL the aftermarket pumps (in my experience) are equally noisy so unless you're prepared to pay £400-odd for a VDO unit, it's probably not worth worrying about.

Yes it did. I replaced it with the unit from the old filter. You are right. In person hearing is different to film. It sounds much louder in person! When the time comes, it will be the expensive option. Sometimes, the cheap stuff just does not cut it.

Oh, nearly forgot. I ordered a brake caliper refurb kit, pistons, seals that kind of stuff. Not sure when I'll get around to it though!

Well. good on ya for being prepared to buy a VDO pump.
Main thing is, don't bother going for a £200 aftermarket pump cos it'll be, basically, identical to a £40 ebay one.

It sounds like the pump is struggling for fuel....Take the pump out and take the pump itself out of the plastic housing, you'll find a very fine screen it will be clogged up with black shite. Also add some fuel cleaner into a tank full of fuel a few times to clean the pump, maybe try that first before taking the pump out....Also cheap Britpart pumps usually end up very noisy, so not sure what you have in there.

Yes, time for a look I think. Starts well and runs well at the moment. Chances are its a cheap pump.

I've just mine on Daisy (D2), when I refitted it I put some injector cleaner into the filter before fitting it. Then let the system purge the air and fired first time. Normally I have to prime it a few times.
Jugs is getting some nice TLC recently with some nice mods also.
Ps can't beat the sound of the td5 starting

Injector cleaner, really good idea. Never thought of it. I just wanted to get it done before it rained!

Ah yes the joys of winter working on cars. Here's hoping the 13th for Ripon land rover spares is dry at least @@sleepycatpictures1176
