He’s playing it ironically. He’s making a huge bag rn and the whole thing is clearly hilarious to him. They aren’t ‘stopping the tracks’ they are called ‘reloads’ in UK soundsystem culture. Four Tet is a legend.
What amazes me is that all these riddim fans think FourTET is a huge riddim fan and is doing everything he can to push it to main stream level. When in reality he is literally playing the song as a joke.

HOL! at Paradise Blue played during a rainstorm that forced everyone inside from the pool stage causing absolute chaos. Then he took over the nexus stage inside and proceed to play for about 30 minutes over his set time. I stayed outside during the storm. Once it passed I went back to see the pool stage and got to hear the end of his set from the outside. This was probably the most unique set I have ever experience and will never forget it. Great video btw!
the distinction between proper dubstep that originated in the UK (and to this day there is so much more of this dark, wobbly stuff around) and riddim/brostep has to be addressed more. I feel like because of the nature of brostep/riddim people hate telling other people that they listen to dubstep because it is associated with riddim/brostep. make dubstep great again
i think the differences are noticeable enough if you care, in my opinion it's the lack of nuance that easily sets apart a riddim track from a dubstep track
Riddim scene is finally blowing up, love to see more people vibing with it, but at the same time it’s a very niche scene and I’ve kinda like it for how small it is and small venue live shows.
Total trolling from Hebden! My take on it is that it’s a poke at Skrillex’s past love affair with the whole bro-step super aggressive scene. He is having fun and playing genre Frankenstein just like how he is when puts Taylor Swift or Carly Rey Jepsen into his sets
I've seen an interview with Fred Again who confirmed this. Is just to troll Skrillex because of his dubstep influence. Lot of people actually think this is a song by Skrillex. So no idea where the story of this video comes from but in my opinion not correct.
This makes sense. My guess is that he's jokingly doing to Skrillex what Skrillex did in his early days with his super agressive and loud type of stuff like Scary Monsters and so on
His sets have ways been very eclectic and I'm sure he sincerely likes everything he plays. He's also long enough in the tooth to know your main job in the club, as a DJ, is to get the crowd pumped and having a good time.
Here is something about Four Tet. He is a monster, a bigmaster and a legend at the same time. In a back to back to back stand up like coachella or the newyork set was, this isnt only about to get the audience fired up, its also about trolling with the other two dj, because they need to figure out how the fuck they will mix down that song and what they put on it next. Just look Skrillex and Fred Again...'s reactions when he is doing that! Amúgy jó vidi lett, csak így tovább! 🤘

Your explanation of riddim / dubstep isn't entirely right. You played an example of riddim, and then brostep. Both are dubstep. Dubstep is the genre name, riddim and brostep (as well as many others) are the subgenre names.

Great vid! I was wondering what that was all about. I know very little about Four Tet but seems like a fascinating character. Keen to listen to some of his work. Can anyone recommend some of his best albums and/or singles to get started on?
His Lot Radio mixes on TH-cam are great to see what his live sets are like. There Is Love in You, New Energy, and Parallel are the albums I'd recommend

Great video describing the news. i was confused at first when everyone was talking about this on social media. Of all the riddim songs, why Country Riddim? It’s literally almost the same as his song, Somewhere. There are so many better riddim tracks to choose.
