Which honestly was a blessing in disguise because LCD Soundsystem replaced him and that was by far one of the best shows ive seen. So thank you Mr. Ocean for bailing on your fans to give other artists the chance to give us a set that you could never
It's ironic, since Frank said during the wknd 1 show after the 20 min dj set in the middle of his set that he wanted to give other artists the spotlight too. Him bailing on shows and having people replace him does exactly that!
You’re a lucky man. I haven’t heard a set like that in a while.. I was watching the stream partying in my living room, literally. They brought an energy I haven’t seen in a while. You can feel it through the screen.. not everyone can play Miley Cyrus - party in the USA and have everyone singing along. I’m really happy Four Tet is having the recognition he deserves after his long amazing career, I really hope seeing him do headlines on many other festivals after this.
I bought the Coachella ticket almost exclusively because Frank was on the lineup. 3 hours into the cross-country car ride I got news that he had canceled, and at first I was legitimately debating turning around. As my friend and I pulled into the valley, I got a notification that the three of them would be closing out on Sunday. Looking back, I now think I had more fun that I would’ve. Perhaps the most exciting weekend of my life so far.
This video ought to emphasize how well received this closing set was. Thousands of people totally entranced. A true "I was there" memory shared by weekend 2 goers. Reddit, Instagram, and anywhere had one theme: "take me back." Musical heroes and best friends throwing a party
I was obsessed with Skrillex and that early dubstep scene when I was like 12/13 (whole reason I got into music production to begin with) but I genuinely haven’t been into EDM much since. Who would’ve know my love would be revived this weekend!! What an amazing experience, I can’t get over seeing absolutely everyone in awe
Facts I was literally there and it was so euphoric. When Kieran dropped country riddim we were literally in a huge mosh pit it was so fun! The DJs producers all had the best sets of the weekend Metro Boomin / Calvin Harris / OMG TBA ❤
Couldn’t put this any better! I was one of them. An epic closing set no one expected, and one of the most memorable nights of my live music attending life! No joke. And this video left out the absolutely hilarious and awesome Four Tet drops: “Call Me Maybe,” “Love Story,” and “Party in the U.S.A.” Girl power to liven up the biggest open air Boiler Room set in the world.
Damn right! Never heard of him, and was going to W2. I heard he was a boring, and got kicked because of his BS. I got to see Blink-182 and then Skrillex x Four Tet x Fred Again.. that absolutely killed it as a finale! It was like a fireworks finale followed by a bigger one!
How? Have you heard literally any edm? They played country riddim like 4 times which has been old for about a year and had like 10 solid minutes of Katie perry
This just reminds me of how people are always saying how Skrillex is washed up, but everytime Eletronic Music makes a big ressurgence Skrillex is there.
This was my first music festival ever and my jaw hit the fucking floor at this finale. I was absolutely blown away. It was so much fun. Definitely a top 5 life experience for me.
I did Coachella 5 years straight from 2014 and have the best memories from it for life, but damn do I have FOMO for this set. This is going to go down as a legendary moment in Coachella history because of the circumstances and how epic the set was. Looked like a 100k person house party. I’m jealous 😂
My friends and I were front row at the former ice rink through bjorks and blinks sets bc we had a feeling those three would be performing there to end the night. I love frank, but kieran, sonny, and Fred ended that weekend better than frank would’ve imo. My friend had 25 CDs of his demos and unfinished songs he had been giving to artists and people over the entire weekend, and with the last CD, on the last night, and with a stranger telling me to just do it, I threw it up onto the ice rink stage. Sonny beckoned a photographer to pick it up for him, and we all saw him take it and got unbelievably hyped and emotional. Frank couldn’t have given us that moment.
I was there. It was my first Coachella. Financially I'm not a person who does these type of things, but I bought the tickets for Frank Ocean. I can say Skrillex usually isn't on my radar. I only listen to his songs when he has rappers on them. I went to his set, because what else was I going to do? Boy, he had a table and a microphone and he blew me away. I learned so much about being disappointed and being open minded. I know that sounds corny, but I have new warm memories, new artists I like, and I know to stop idolizing artists now. Frank's music is so old and there isn't even a lot of albums. Why did I act like he was an icon? You can try to make excuses for him about grieving and so on, but all I can say is Skrillex did not disappoint and Frank ocean added to his history of disappointment.
I always considered him as a poor’s man Elton John. You guys are good ppl though because some fanbase would had trash everything in their path after such a let down in week 1. Woodstock 2k and Metallica / Guns n Roses in Mtl comes to mind.
You should definitely check out skrillex's music from the last five or six years. He went from crazy heavy brostep (what a lot of people call dubstep, but isn't) and death metal production to some very pleasant, beautiful and amazing songs.

I was able to see Fred Again, Skrillex, and Four Tet at MSG here in NYC. Then again at Coachella weekend two. I’m honestly so happy these three have had the opportunity to take over the East and West coast. Selling out MSG in literal minutes and then replacing Franks set. I honestly feel blessed to be able to see them twice in a matter of months.
It was so bizarre seeing four tet as part of this, he was at Coachella in 2019, on right before Aphex twin, on the second smallest outdoor stage. Four Tet played through sunset and his only lights for the entire gig were two desk lamps so he could see his kit. No lights on stage, nothing else. It was so brilliant, nobody even noticed the lack of a light show until after it was dark. Everyone was dancing with each other and looking out at the Coachella mountains disappearing in the twilight instead of starting at the stage. It was so deep and serene and cerebral. and then to see him playing Miley Cyrus and dubstep with Fred and Skrillex almost made my head spin off my neck
No idea what you mean by “EDM’s big break” given how massively popular it is in North America. There’s half a million people headed to EDC this weekend, which is more than double the attendance of both Coachella weekends combined.
Similar thing happened in Lollapalooza Sao Paulo. Where Drake would perform, but bailed on the actual day. They called Skrillex and he perform on his place, which was waaaaay better, one of the best shows. At the end of the day everyone was happy that he didn't come lol

One could argue that EDM as it exists today (spectacle / festival / outdoors) started when Daft Punk played Coachella. Sonny has been planning this 2023 reinvention / comeback for years - and is doing everything right to win back our hearts and kick off a new era. Frank dropping out had very little to do with it - their MSG show sold out in like 18 seconds. 😂
I feel bad for the true Frank Ocean fans like my friend waited 11 hours in the front just to see Frank Ocean 😢 Week one the energy in the crowd was low because of all the pauses and delays. Week 2 the crowd was already on a high after Blink 182 and it’s always best to close out a big festival with a sick DJ set. Party in the USA was so much fun towards the end 100K people were singing 😂 loved it ❤
Waiting that long for one artist is idiotic and ruins the vibe of other acts on the main stage lol it ain’t hard to get close if you’re there 3 hours before. Like not at all.
bruh ngl their set sounded pretty fucking clean to me, I think what you think sounds like obvious signs of improvisation is just how proper Electronic Music DJ sets actually are. Real DJs like those guys don't put on pre-recorded shit, it's not supposed to sound like mechanical perfection it's a live performance and the decks are their instruments. Bass House/Dubstep/Dnb is the real shit fuck 'EDM' its like calling all metal 'screamo'
Class move by Fred- That was so sweet of him to pull for Four Tet, and to edit that so fast to play at their set is as clutch as it is endearing. And then there's Frank, who couldn't even make it there within the hour to deliver 1/8 of what he promised... On top of that, I've never seen a marketing job so poorly executed that fans are literally trying to outbid one another on the "No Frank Ocean Merchandise" sign... absolutely blooper-reel level failure... good thing dem edm boyce delivered instead!
I got weekend 2 tickets and my friends were so excited to see frank ocean. I wasn’t as big of a fan and I was kind of dreading going to his set (I didn’t wanna seperate from all my friends). That's such a touching thing of Fred to do for four Tet with his video playing on screen before the set..if i was gonna choose to get in to music..and i had to choose hip hop or electro...I'd rather pick electro cuz they just way more chill and laid back. So glad to see people giving this the props it deserves. And for anyone interested - the set is up on the coachella page now
my favorite part was the fine night sample as a breakcore/jungle fan it really HIT when that happened.
You mean the Its a Fine Day remix by Skrill and Boys Noize?
This set was live streamed o. The coachella TH-cam channel yesterday. It was a sick video they put together.
I was there both weekends and boy do I have some stories. First being while this was definitely a cool thing, I skipped it to see Adam Beyer play two hours of relentless techno on another stage. Caught the finale of party in the USA and then dnb+fireworks and was like "well THAT'S unusual" 😂
This set was nearly a religious experience. First time festival goer at all, and it was absolutely mind blowing.
They played 4 top 40 songs and did the country riddim drop like 3 times. This set was a meme
@@alecreynolds6313 lol k bud. Top 40 10 years ago maybe. Don’t yuck other peoples yum
@@GarthV4nBell My bad. As a big fan of edm, hearing people label this as one of the greatest edm sets of all time has me a bit pressed. Maybe I need to chill
@@alecreynolds6313 I’m a big fan, too. And for me it was. But it’s alright that it isn’t for you. Two different experiences and perspectives. It’s all good my dude, I’m not offended
@@alecreynolds6313Everyone has their own opinion and that’s okay.
I was there. I can die peacefully now
Dude, it was me and my best friend watching this magical set. It was seriously special.
Can’t believe I got to see this live. What an unbelievable experience
woke up early for this, was 100% worth it!
That means so much to know you did! Thank you!
This should be the true definition of:
When people need them, they come saving the world.
They reall did
Literally never heard of Frank Ocean, but thankful for what he did for the EDM scene
That's a lie
This is literally the first time I've even heard of this Ocean bloke
The whole set is now available on TH-cam!!
Yup, and i've already watched it 3 times so far lol
One could argue that EDM as it exists today (spectacle / festival / outdoors) started when Daft Punk played Coachella.
Sonny has been planning this 2023 reinvention / comeback for years - and is doing everything right to win back our hearts and kick off a new era.
Frank dropping out had very little to do with it - their MSG show sold out in like 18 seconds. 😂
sonny has been planning the albums and the comeback even since 2021 but covid and other personal issues got in the way:/
EDM is so so meh
Also EDM got a huge boost in 2011 or so when Skrillex blew up the first time. This is just another wave, and he’s somehow at the front of it again
@@cheezewhiz7238 bruh what, its the most diverse genre there is
@@squeezter EDM isn't a genre
I feel bad for the true Frank Ocean fans like my friend waited 11 hours in the front just to see Frank Ocean 😢
Week one the energy in the crowd was low because of all the pauses and delays.
After seeing the videos of people waiting outside the festival ground ready to sprint to thew main stage, I can imagine it was a huge disappointment
bruh ngl their set sounded pretty fucking clean to me, I think what you think sounds like obvious signs of improvisation is just how proper Electronic Music DJ sets actually are. Real DJs like those guys don't put on pre-recorded shit, it's not supposed to sound like mechanical perfection it's a live performance and the decks are their instruments. Bass House/Dubstep/Dnb is the real shit fuck 'EDM' its like calling all metal 'screamo'
Finally, a man of culture
I was actually kind of happy to hear that he had dropped out a couple days before leaving. When I saw Fred again, skrillex and four tet were playing ahead I nearly cried. It was such an amazing set to see live
Great video! The liveset is sooo awesome :D
I only heard of four Tet and Fred again this year when these 3 performed in times Square. That's such a touching thing of Fred to do for four Tet with his video playing on screen before the set..if i was gonna choose to get in to music..and i had to choose hip hop or electro...I'd rather pick electro cuz they just way more chill and laid back. This is an amazing story
Fred is a wholesome persone hes doing new things, fred is a vibe
Damn, the ice rink setup looks amazing
I was there live. I say this to everyone but you just had to be there. The energy was there
this is the best timeline
the fact that you introduced him as a rapper and musician is.. interesting Lol
thought the same lol
How would you have introduced him? Everything I've seen and all the people I've talked to have referred to him as rapper/singer and musician
@@cultfigureclub1 just because he's black doesn't mean he's a rapper
@@cultfigureclub1 he's more of a singer than a rapper
@@cultfigureclub1 none of the songs most people think for are the ones where he raps. I often forget he raps at all
Franks true colors showing. How can you act like that bro😂
What he did was truly a jerk move. If I were a fan I'd drop him immediately
Saw their set last night, it was great!
I camped at weekend 1... I have a lot of the Frank Ocean set recorded but i haven't uploaded it or shared it yet. It was a really fun weekend but good lord... i wish i was at weekend 2!!
Watched it live on TH-cam last night. So fun
Ohhhh myyyy the bit of info about Country Riddim made this set 1,075,489 times better than I previously thought.
Very good video. Thanks for putting this together. I was reading the comments of the official Coachella set and was wondering more and more of the backstory here.
Frank ocean - my ankle hurts
Dave grohl - my broken foot is fine, lets continue
So beautiful walking that catwalk with the clip playing. Wow
I was at franks set, man I should have gone weekend two.
im dying that ppl were bidding on the no frank merch sign lol
These guys are giving me life
So proud of these guys ❤️
Was def a epic set!! I was lucky to have been able to see it. Def 1 for the books.
Man this is an awesome video, thankyou. I saw the full set on here but now it seems to have vanished. I don't suppose you know of anywhere else that's hosting it?
Damn, I didnt realise it was gone until reading u comment, thats a shame, Skrillex put so much effort into repeiring the audio for that, and now its gone :(
I know people have uploaded the audio onto other platforms, and I do have the video recording of it myself, but I dont have any knowledge of any full re-uploads
@@cultfigureclub1 I managed to get a copy from a generous person on Reddit 😀 someone's uploaded it again but not sure how long it will stay up. I'm guessing it might be Taylor Swift lol. Maybe they'll have to strike a deal with her before it goes back up 🤣
The stream for the set is released with fixed audio by Skrillex but for some reason it was uploaded in mono
Hopefully should be fixed now
4:35 Why did they have Chris Lake and Fisher, Boris Brejcha, and Adam Beyer playing at similar times??
amazing video, i can feel that passion
Here’s a sub!
And damn, their set was so damn good! Super messy in parts, but a lot of fun.
I had no idea about all this drama that led to it..
I saw frank ocean at Parklife UK in 2015 or so, he restarted loads of his songs multiple times and seemed like he was getting visibly annoyed. was super weird
Good example of the difference in work ethic and professionalism between R&B/Hiphop and EDM generally. Not going to complain about the result!
I also got to talk to Dave rat again the day of this show about the 360 setup. Let's just say Dave is the king of cardioid bass
I chatted to someone who worked for Dave and apparently he designed some of the subs for Coachella and is 100% the king of bass
Oh wow they performed on the ice rink that was abandoned by Frank Ocean, wow thats actually cool
greatest night of my life tbh
As Gorden Ramsey would say.... "What a shame." HOWEVER so happy this trio made up for it 🔥
History was made when Four Tet dropped Country Riddim at Coachela and refused to elaborate
Frank Ocean really was responsible for the best set In Coechella in history
They just put the video of this set on Coachella’s TH-cam channel.
Love the videos man keep it up!
Will do!
Worth mentioning how good the Chris Lake and Fisher set was and how it got more viewers because of Frank’s absence
The video is on the Coachella channel
thanks for the video. you nailed it. subd
Idk what’s going on with Frank ocean, and say what you want about edm music, but those dude are musicians and top class performers. Frank really dropped the ball, he should have backed out WAY earlier.
They saved the show, looked like a blast!
I WAS IN THAT CROWD BRO
