I have watched a number of Sketchup tutorials, within my quest of grasping an understanding on this great program, and THIS one - from YOU - has proved to be the best one that I have viewed, thus far. I read where, at least, one responder has berated you on having made a mistake in mis-terming something. Well, no one is perfect - which is to say that we ALL make mistakes (even that responder). The bottom line is that you took the time to put together better than a half hour of visual/audial information to share with, and help others out. And I can't say enough about your thoughtfulness in doing that. I love woodworking, and had always hoped for a program which would afford the opportunity of designing projects. Sketchup is a truly amazing ptogram - and FREE, to boot. Now, being armed with your tutorial, I really feel ready to move along with the designing process. I am looking to see more tutorials from you. God bless you.

This video taught me more in 40 minutes than most others did in hours and hours. The way you explain not only what to do, but WHY you must/should do it this way is so essential to understanding these concepts. Thank you so much!

Really nice job taking a complicated subject and putting it into simple terms that an average woodworker can follow. Best I have seen.

I've just started using Sketchup (to help me design my DIY Fireplace Built-in for our living room), and have to say that this is the most helpful tutorial I've seen on YT! I learned more in 40 min than I did while watching several hours of other YTuber vids. Well done! Subscribed.

    Thanks for this. Very helpful.
A few notes for Mac users: you CAN use a trackpad effectively in SketchUp. No, it's not quite as easy as a mouse, but it's doable. (I have SketchUp running right now on this MacBook, on the couch.)
By defining your own keyboard shortcuts (e.g. "o" for Orbit, "spacebar" for the selection tool, "x" for X-ray, "g" for Group, etc.), and using multiple-finger gestures (e.g. two fingers for zooming-in-out), it's not too difficult. Right-clicking is done the usual way: just hold down the Control key on a Mac. Duplication is done by holding the Option/Alt key.
You can also use an Apple Magic Mouse quite effectively, again with keyboard shortcuts. You can scroll on the surface of the mouse. It's not as good as a specific scrollwheel button, but then the actual scrolling is multi-dimensional and smoother than any other system. So, 6 of one, half-dozen...

A tip for people having a hard time using the Follow-Me tool along complex paths. You can simply select the path first, then press the Follow-Me tool. Your crown moulding (or roofline or whatever) will be created in one hit.

Great work. One problem though: when I create a stile out in free space (draw a rectangle, then pull it up, like you do) I can then triple-click it and select it all and make it a group or component. But when I create it from a point on the bookcase and then pull it up (like you did with your top lock rail), when I triple-click it the whole bookcase gets selected. What am I doing wrong?

Question on the follow me tool?
How does that work when doing material listing. Does it break it down corner to corner or is it seen as one piece? End results looking for listing for all materials in print out form or to use in cutlist pro. Thank you. By the way, you made the complicated into simple. Love it.

Great job explaining using "Sketchup" I used another 3d drawing program but the cost did not justify the means so I had to give up three years of learning it. I know Sketchup free version will not let you print or send via email or add scenes, bummer unless you buy the full out please correct me if it has changed.

I am using there free version and i don't seem to have the different views as you've mentioned at the beginning of this video. Do i need to have the Pro version to have that perspective view option when beginning to draw plans? thanks

I'm using Sketchup 7 and I cannot get my drawing to give me a TOP overhead view.
Do I need to get a different sketchup program ? The program I am using does not show me the house figures, does this matter ?

Go to view and look under toolbars. check tool bars until the houses come up.

+Sam Hello Sam...Did you find it...? The toolbar with the houses is here: Menu/View/Toolbars/Views. Else... It is located in: Menu/Camera/Standard view/Top. It is a good idea to make a shortcut for top view... I use it a lot. Greetings...Jakob

Thank you so much for the tutorial I bought a book from the Woodwroker's for learning how to use the software but it was just as complicated as the programme :-( I hate wasting money like that. Your very concise with your instructions and now I am flying through it :-)You mentioned crown mouldings at your website but you did not put a link in the description box below the video :( I would love to know where to find your website :-)

I was having trouble until I realized he was misinforming using the "Control" vs "Alt/Option" key when copy/moving a component. Word of advice, if you are going to teach a program, learn it the right way before you pass on the information.

    • @erik221
      @erik221 8 ปีที่แล้ว

+Ktoloneci It is the control key.

In windows you use Ctrl for copy-move, while on Mac you use the alt key.
