      @@PlantYes ❤️ also they takr years to respond 🤣 i hope my dracena will live i tried putt3a small cutting into soil and checked it a week later and i found tiny worms going around its not yet existent roots..... I took the whole mama plant now and madr cuttings and am going to put it in new soil I'm pretty new at plants so not sure if these worms were hatmful or were those spring tails eho supposingly are not harmful.
      I got one question. If I let the soil dry out (empty pot) so all the worms die. Is it good to use again? Cuz this was actually new soil. Or should i throw it away 😅

    • @PlantYes
      @PlantYes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hanumamaofficial Maybe it can be interesting to try to root it in water first, worked for me :) What kind of worms where inside the soil? Because there are also benificial ones (like nematodes), but if they were plant-parasitic nematodes than you better throw it away.

    • @hanumamaofficial
      @hanumamaofficial 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PlantYes yes i put two of the cuttings in water and the rest in soil.
      It was two very very tiny worms just white and very thin and short. No idea but the soil was new and supposedly good quality is it even possible that bad worms developed in a week since it has been in. Also the stem of this dracena had like vertical lines looked like it was drying out. 🙄 And the roots were funny. I hope it doesn't die all together 😅 the mother plant that was with it in a pot seems to be doing fine its own pot maybe the little one just wasn't lucky.

    (I'm also kinda nerdy , so like the discussion of apical dominance.)

      Yes, I find that very important (both the follow-up as well as explanation). It's also just random if 1, 2 or 3 branches come out. The down-side is that sometimes it takes months before finishing a video, because I want to show the results, haha.

    I've had a dracaena for about 15+ years and since moving house 4 years ago, it's been really sad looking. Your video has given me the confidence to give my plant a good pruning and I hope to see some positive results and new shoots next spring. I've also decided to give it more water as I think that I have been keeping it too dry.

    • @PlantYes
      @PlantYes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Hopefully your plant will do fine. Make sure to check if the stem is still sturdy, and not wrotten from the inside. But if it is still alive after 4 years, that is probably not the case. Let me know if it worked, maybe it is good to wait until the growth season starts before pruning.

    Very helpful, thank you and it's great that you included follow up video footage after several months of growth. How did the original 'top' grow in the soil - did it take okay? I seem to get conflicting information online - whether to propagate this in water or directly in soil x

    • @PlantYes
      @PlantYes  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, it took okay and it has grown out as bigger plant as well. I think it is best to try propagating it in water first, since that has (in my opinion) a higher chance for succes!

    You convinced me to cut the tops of a way too tall dragon tree that is two plants in the pot. Learning about the hormones was helpful. I cut them down about half and am stoked to say I have two new on one plant and three new tops on the other stalk. Five is perfect, and I'm so glad I did it. What time of year did you cut the plant? It's most likely to grow several new shoots instead of just one if you cut it in the spring.

    • @PlantYes
      @PlantYes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, logically a lot of factors are involved in making it a succes or not. I did cut it in August, but here our springs can be still very cold and almost no sun. But will see soon if cutting it in spring will make a difference, thanks!

    Hi. I have this type of Dracaena growing in my outdoor garden. It's two years old and the base is now becoming a thick stalk. I want to take it back to its first year look. Can I do that by cutting the stalk at the surface? Thanks

    • @PlantYes
      @PlantYes  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What do you mean by surface? You mean where the stalk comes out of the soil?

    • @EUCme
      @EUCme 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @PlantYes The plant is 30-36 inches in all directions. The leaves still begin at soil surface but is developing a 1 to 1.5 inch stalk. 18 to 24 months ago it was 12-14 inches in all direction. Hoping there's a pruning technique that brings it back to a smaller posture. I wasn't sure what would result if I cut it at or 1 inch above the soil surface. Thank you for helping me.

    • @PlantYes
      @PlantYes  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@EUCme I think what is most probable to happen if you cut it 1 inc above the soil is that you will get more branching of the plant. But since it needs to divert the energy, it will indeed start of small again.

    Hallo Deniece, Allereerst heel erg bedankt voor deze geweldige video. Ik vind het heel leerzaam en duidelijk , ik heb er veel van geleerd :)
    ik heb een klein vraagje :) Heb je Dracaena-vermeerdering in water (in plaats van aarde) geprobeerd ? Heb je al een andere video waarin de vermeerdering in water wordt uitgelegd?

    • @PlantYes
      @PlantYes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hoi! Ja, water werkt prima voor het bewortelen van de dracaena, eigenlijk zelfs beter dan meteen in de aarde. Het duurt wel echt best lang voor er wat gebeurt (in tegenstelling tot stekjes bij andere planten bijv).

  • @mikedoeswijk3434
    @mikedoeswijk3434 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hoe groot moet de stam ongeveer zijn voor de stek? Is 5 centimeter genoeg?

    • @PlantYes
      @PlantYes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zolang er enkele groeipunten (op de plek waar eerst de bladeren vastzaten aan de stengel) aan zitten, moet het goed komen. Daar kan de plant namelijk wortels maken!

    • @PlantYes
      @PlantYes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both of mine has died too and Today I took the top( the only remaining of them and it was down to 3 leaves) off & put it in water. Im praying that it sprouts roots.. I believe I over watered & caused root rot in all. My question now is ,what about the 4 empty canes that's left over?? They're dry &feel hollow . Idk what to do. Ive been binge watching videos like crazy for days. I'm wanting to cut them down a little & repot them in the AM... I even had their kind of soil shipped here mths ago...I'm a 1st timer + I stupidly spent a fortune on a lot of plants when I moved into my new home , assuming I could do this ,but I believe I caused root rot & it spread or something...I feel horrible Abt this!! I'm much smarter now. I've learned my lesson & I've been propagating like crazy trying to save any I can!! So ,Can I bring the Canes back to life some how?? I can't seem to get that answered... Like I said ,it feels dead , completely. Anything i can do? There's 2long canes and 2small canes..Thank u...
