    I know this was 7 years ago. However, just wanted to say, "thank you!". You are the first one I have seen that tells people to let the cuttings sit for an hour and harden off before planting them. A very important step.

    Thank you, Khang. My trees got in real bad shape on my front porch when some unseasonal cold temps came overnight. I hated that I had to propogate them, but in the long run, I'll have at least a dozen trees. This video is exactly what I was looking for. God bless you!

      Yes I totally agree with you! Mine is dieing I think it will be my first plant for this winter. So I thought that was going on, cold. Until I seen this video. I pulled out the other little one & up root rot. So I cut all the slime off & maybe 1-2 little white roots. Now to the bigger tree size that has shoots starting to turn brown. So yes this video is educational in my opinion. Thanks for sharing.

    I tried this process and it worked!!!! My cutting grew roots. I decided to insert the cutting straight into the same pot with the mother plant (there was enough space) and it rooted! Amazing. I kept the soil fairly moist. Thank you so much.

    Great video for the common man without all the fancy tools. The scissors and simple pots are available everywhere. No need for fancy cutting tools or fancy bottles.

    I have one. I put it outside in middle of april to get the sunlight and because was really hot, but a cold and windy day came from nowhere and i forget to put it inside. then my plant came to my mine and i went outside the next day to get my plant and it was dead. i cried so much for my plant. i never throw it always, cause i have faith that it going to survive . i get this plant like a gift from my boss when i have a cancer surgery and i name it survivor since i have it for 21 years. i know on my heart she going to make it like me. Everyday pass and i talk to her, the one day i saw two babies coming from the bottom. i cried again but for happiness. i jump like crazy and i always talk to with my plant. i told her you dead but she give two babies. i promise ill never will kill them like i killed you. already gave me 4. But im worry to remove the from her mom. but know with this video, ill prune her and have more babies. Im a survivor and my plant be with since. Thanks for sharing this video.

      I neglected my lovely plant and thought that I’d lost him. The tips lost their leaves and shrivelled up! But despite that it’s thrown out new growth and I’m just about to pot on some of the growing stems. I’ve asked the plant if it’s OK, so it will be prepared!

    Thank you for the information! I am the third owner of my 20+ year old tree, my mom got it after my grandmother passed and I got it from her. It is over 5 feet tall and severly root bound, I hope to scale it back into multiple trees of more manageable heights.

    • @RockinDaBoombox
      @RockinDaBoombox 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is how mine is. It belonged to my mom. It is over 40 years old and it’s grown out of control. The palm parts bend from the weight, but the main stalk of the tree is over 5 feet high and would love to chop it in half if possible. I’m so nervous to separate it since it is so old. Would feel weird to me separating any part of it since it’s so dear to me.

    thanks for this video, I have this plant in the ground on my porch garden for the last 30 years at least. anyways the "trunk" of it is probably around 15" in diameter I've cut it down so many times, and it's got about 20 canes coming off it. I intend to start some cuttings, see which one takes, and then dig up the old one and start over from the single again. the stump/trunk of it is so big and gnarly at this point from all the years of cutting it down to the shorter canes it just looks weird and wrong now.

    That's cool Khang. I've been doing basically the same thing with yucca plants. Those things will grow in any kind of soil and the one I started with many years ago got no care at all as far as I know, except for when it rained. Of course they do even better if you water them. They will do well in any weather extreme, hot or cold. Its too bad all plants are not that tough and hardy. Thanks for the video man.

    Thanks for your informative video! ❤ i inherited one of these plants that has only one trunk and very tall - hitting the ceiling! The trunk is only about the thickness of my thumb, so I cut it down into quarters, with only leaves at the top of one piece of stalk. I’m trying to root each part of the stalk in water - do you think the parts without any leaves will live? Do you think I should use the dirt method or soak in water instead, since most cuttings have no leaves?

    Thank you for this video! However I have a question. I watched another video on repotting. And the guy said to not snip the foliage with scissors but to prune it by pulling the leaves downwards popping them off the trunk. Does it make a difference?

    • @cherylm3584
      @cherylm3584 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kayla Bear yes, I’ve had a dragon tree for years, you should always prune by grabbing the leaf at the base and popping them off in a downwards motion. You can cut them off as shown in the video but I personally don’t recommend it 🌴

    • @kkilljoy3588
      @kkilljoy3588 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kayla Bear - you can do either. My yard is crawling with dragon plants and I had no idea what I was doing for a loooong time and I tried both. If you pull the leaves off, it leaves the stem/branch with a cleaner look bc you don’t have little leaf nubbins sticking out. No matter how close you try to trim, you will never get quite as tidy of a look as pulling the leaves off.
      But both do work just fine with no ill consequence to the plant that I have found. The one caveat is that with itty bitty plants it’s tough to get enough of a pulling action without yanking the fragile plant around, esp if it’s a recent propagation without large root development. But if you pull the whole plant out of the soil, just stick it back in the dirt! These things are hardy.

    WOW I never knew you could cut all the babies off. I cut one only and it grew. I am wondering if it is OK to add other plants with the dragon. I like a variety of color and what plants would you suggest?

    A month ago I bought a dracena, and I repoted it, because it has it's roots trough the pot. I had two of them in one pot, small one and big one (booth of them had 4 parts). Both of them had beautiful leaves and growing new ones. But the smaller one started loosing it leaves, perfectly geeen leaves?! I repoted it, because I wanted to see what is happening..and the part was like rooten but dry at the same time..do you know what that means?!

    Thanks for the video! How often to you water once you’ve initially reported the cuttings? Did you not water for the first two weeks?

    I have a seven foot tall dracena marginata, it has thinner, smaller branches coming off the main tree branch, and the small ones are very thin and curly, should I trim them off and try to transplant them??? Thank you...

    My original plants do not have branches to cut off ... very tall plants about 5 feet tall, 2 in each pot. Cut off the tops?
