I'm in the SE part of the U.S. and it is currently November. Is it wisest to wait to try this in the spring, or should I be able to propagate my schefflera here in late fall?? Also, do you use simple rubbing alcohol to clean your shears?? I've been afraid that mine may have contributed to the demise of several of my plants. 🤦🏽♀
What kind of temperatures are there in November? For a plant it is best to not have cold stress, especially not after propagation. Also: yes, just rubbing alcohol. This is mainly to kill any microbes that can be on the shears.
What soil did you use please?
I used a mixture of 45% potting soil, 45% coco peat and 10% perlite.
This is not the correct way to plant these. They are epiphytes and do not like regular potting soil. They need a barky orchid mix with compost, Pearlite and peat moss. They naturally attach themselves to trees so they don’t like being smothered in potting soil in a regular pot. What was you soil mixture?
I use a mixture of potting soil, perlite, bark and coco peat and it is thriving! It grew superbig. I also got this plant directly from a phlebodium cultivation company, and they even used just coco peat. I know they are epiphytes and using compost then sounds counterproductive (compost can become quite dense and wet).
Hi please help me? What happens when you cut leaf side branches? I feel Iv cut the leaf to close to the stem & nod. Wil it grow back from these points stil? Or should I remove the leaf node completely so it grow new leaf from main stem? I have not cut my main stem for it to branch out like yours..I just cut leaves branch & feel I cut them to short but I didn’t remove the whole leaf branch Iv left a stump of leaf node but no stem. & now I’m worried new leaves won’t grow back there..I hope this makes sense please help me 🫶🏽
So if I understand correctly, you just cut a part of the stems of the leaves?
Just wondering if you also scrape the scale off the branches
Yes, that is also possible.

Very informative video, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! After your video, I finally feel confident to try it in my home as well. What is the volume of the pot you use? Do you think it would still work with smaller pots?
Yes, smaller pots will also work. You will just have a smaller mycelium and therefore less harvest of the oyster mushrooms. For a first time you could always try a growth kit, so you will get the hang of how they work
Kindly tell where to keep it?
I keep the bags in my cellar. The best spot is somewhere where it is cold, and not too humid (because that can cause rot).
It could probably have been planted in a pot twice as big as this one.
I have learned that the Monstera prefers to stand a bit tight in its pot and that repotting is the best when the pot is full of roots. Going twice as big does not seem to fit that thought. But do you have good experiences with a larger pot?
Obrigado aprendi a tratar minhas orquídeas.

Do you have plants in your home that grow very weirdly? Did you do something about it or did you just let them be?
Do you have this plant at home? Have you ever tried to propagate it?
Super bedankt
Graag gedaan :)
Hi. I have this type of Dracaena growing in my outdoor garden. It's two years old and the base is now becoming a thick stalk. I want to take it back to its first year look. Can I do that by cutting the stalk at the surface? Thanks
What do you mean by surface? You mean where the stalk comes out of the soil?
@PlantYes The plant is 30-36 inches in all directions. The leaves still begin at soil surface but is developing a 1 to 1.5 inch stalk. 18 to 24 months ago it was 12-14 inches in all direction. Hoping there's a pruning technique that brings it back to a smaller posture. I wasn't sure what would result if I cut it at or 1 inch above the soil surface. Thank you for helping me.
@@EUCme I think what is most probable to happen if you cut it 1 inc above the soil is that you will get more branching of the plant. But since it needs to divert the energy, it will indeed start of small again.
@@EUCme If TH-cam had the option to have pictures in the comments, that would be helpfull. But it can't. You can find my email on my page, if you want to send me a picture there I could have a look at it :)
The flowering was ending, there were only 2 flowers left from the 10 that had been there.

By making a cut with pruning scissors between two nodes. I have also a more elaborate video on my channel about pruning and propagating this plant. You can check it here: th-cam.com/video/adq0iTPym-U/w-d-xo.html

No, only when the roots are rotted. I only cut away the root-rotted roots.
Ok thanks😊
Can you explain to why? All energy for flowering has already been used, and there were only 2 flowers left (there were around 10 before). Also I had some root rot, which is in my opinion not something that should be left on the plant.
Sollte man alle 2-3 Jahren ersetzen
@@martinakohler4129So mache ich es auch.

Thank you for your videos. I’m wondering what types of gloves you use because no matter which gloves I get the needle still poke through. I would just like to share how I hold onto the cactus. For the small ones Iuse very long tweezers. They are about 7 inches or so and it works perfect. For cactus that are larger I use tongs, and it works wonderful. Thank you😊
The gloves I use are actually cleaning/kitchen gloves. I think it is because of the rubber that they work?
I bought "organic" neem cake powder for my House plants ! BIG mistake ! i sprinkled a teaspoon on each of my plants soil and within a week all the soil became mouldy and another week later all my plants became sick . All leaved , especially the young and new ones are covered in black insects !!
Oh nooooo! Did all your plants die? Or did some of them survive?
@@PlantYes the didn't die , I removed the top soil and placed Sand on top
Do I need to do anything to the nodes to get it to sprout more branch’s down low?
No that is not necessary. This will happen by itself.
Why do you use rocks instead of soil?
I do have another video explaining the benefits of using pon/vulcastrat. I notice that for instance I have way less problems with fungus gnats and are also able to fertilise the plants more precise.
What soil is use for plans
Depends on the plant. In this video I use a mixture of regular potting soil, coco peat, perlite and bark.
This was EXACTLY what I was looking for and needed for help. Thank you!!!
@@shirleycolopy4322 thank you so much :)
The growers near me said ladybugs don't/won't help with scale. Nothing but good old fashion horticulture oil and sit and pick them all off then wipe whole plant everywhere with the neem oil
Yes, neem oil helps with a lot of things. But the smell is not always that nice ;)
Thank you. I've subscribed
Thank you for subscribing
what should i line my planter boxes with? and what should I treat the wood with? thanks!
The lining I use is special plastic lining, called anti rooting mat. It lets water through, but soil and plant material will stay in. The wood we bought was already impregnated for use outside, so I cannot really advise you on that.
Gracias!!!
You're welcome :)
Wear gloves and a mask when dealing with potting mix, it contains bacteria and other pathogens that can be inhaled or enter through cuts in the skin. Diseases like Legionnaires Disease can be the result
I am not sure where you live, but most potting soil (from the bags you can buy), has been treated (for instance by steaming). I also have been to many greenhouses and even potting soil production plants, and never heard of that either.
@@PlantYes That warning is on every bag of potting mix in Australia. Also, I'm not sure why you would want sterile soil, if it's not bioactive, it's not going to produce a nutrient rich environment.
What are you talking about “nodes”.
Can you specify your question?
Like some of us are new to this hobby and have no idea what a node is, where it's located at on the plant, and what is there purpose?
Quick tip: you don't need to air layer this type of plant, just cut of the piece with the node on the rhizome intact and place in some water and the root will grow
I know ;) Airlayering is just one of the many propagation techniques. I used both the normal cuttings techniques as well as airlayering, but I like airlayering better for this plant.
Also: You have less chance of rot in this method, so a higher chance of succes.
Yes, puns! 😁
Should I include more puns in my normal videos?
@@PlantYes you shall pun more than none.
What do you do with the leafs you removed
You can try to root them in water, they sometimes are able to give roots. But it will take a very long time untill you have a plant
Not a butterfly orchid
It is called "vlinder orchidee" in Dutch, which translates to butterfly orchid. In my opinion the Phalaenopsis is the butterfly orchid. What kind of orchid do you believe it is?
A mix of alcohol and what ? This is a bit short tho .
Water. If you take 100% alcohol, you mix it with water to get 60-70% alcohol. Sometimes you can buy 70% alcohol mixtures (they are always mixtures..) in store.
Definitely the best site I have found. Clear and concise. Thank you.
Thank you so much :)
🎉
Thanks!
Woven or non woven for inside liner?
It was a woven inside liner, a thing called a anti-rooting mat. WIll let water through, but soil and roots will stay in.
Thank you so much. I've got one of these that needs pruning - it has never been pruned and I must have had it for about 15 years x
Definitely try it out :) It is super easy!
My plant as well is around 15 years old and has grown very tall and outrageous, lol. Im going to prune it soon. I was afraid to in case I killed it.
