This PC cam from a local business and they needed it fixing quick. The PC powers on but there are no beeps and nothing on the screen
Can we fix it and keep the customer happy

Hi Richard,
i have just replaced a shorted MOSFET on a G31M3 motherboard. Before the replacement v_core was absent, now Is 1.1 V. Mobo now have the same 00 error on the post analyzer card as yours. I tried to reprogram BIOS chip but nothing (maybe wrong version). It would be nice to see a repair attempt of that motherboard by you.

Hi Fran Dan yes I will definitely get round to looking at it. Really in this case I wanted to get the customers PC back up and running and they let me keep the old board plus I made some profit on the quick repair so really it was a win win situation. Also I thought I would experiment with some different type of video content to see if viewers like to watch it or not.
I had two old computers I stored in my garage when I replace them 17 years ago and niether computer would turn on now. I checked the 5 volts start up voltage and it was less than 4 volts. One of the capacitors in that circuit was swollen and so were 3 other capacitors in the 12 volt circuit. Changing them fixed the power supply but the mother board would not post, no beeps and all zerros on the diagnostic card. I remembed that we had a flood many years ago and that these two computers may have been under water so I decided to wash the motherboard, cpu, memory and video card in soapy water. After letting them dry overnight the computers powered on with many post codes and several beeps but no video. I looked closely at the motherboard and found 5 capacitors 3 near the cpu and 2 near the memory cards were swollen. All were 6.3 volt 820 uf. I replaced them and the computer booted into windows. The funny thing about these computers is they had no indication of water damage.
here's the tip: broken trails or oxidation. I have a piece ASUS P7P55D-LE with oxidation in the region of RAM memories. no beeps, no video, no boot, nothing

Can you also do one about power distribution in desktop motherboards and how to check them with a multimeter? Like in situations when diagnosing a dead board how to and what to check.

Hi, have a Toshiba laptop and bought it with no sound and found speaks wires gone, so i rewired to both sockets and still no beep at startup or when test in Ubunto. Resistance on sockets was 80K and 40k to ground so socket isnt shorted to each pin and speakers are good at 4 ohm so it should work unless sound has totally failed and last person just ripped it out!!! I do board repairs but never had a sound failure before so if you could help? Speakers are totally dead, not the slightest hiss or signal although i havnt scoped for signal!

same too.... i have luck to replace my psu to make it work.
