- Hey y'all! Here's something a little different. In this video, I show you how to do simple services to a 2009 Triumph 675 Street Triple R.
In the first half of the video, I demonstrate an engine oil and filter change.
In the second half, I show a coolant flush.
Enjoy!

This is first time in all the years I've been on the planet that I've seen an oil change on a motorcycle. Thanks Faye .
Holy crap.....the Triumph Street Triple R.....by far one of Triumphs best bikes, best engines (3 cylinders) and gear box ever made, simply a fabulous bike! Don't believe me?.....just test ride one.
At 5:23 with your head sideways you look like a model, I love your vidz, you have one of the most thorough channels on the tube! Thank You for being Thorough!
Love watching every video beautiful. Life changing motivation thanks. Shot I need all the motivation in my life I can lately. Feeling like I'm dieing trying to STRUGGLE to live. Almost 10 months ago now a rode semi truck decided to remodeled my Yukon and I don't think it will buff out. I'm starting to be able to get round and help my wife take care of my 2 kids , my 2 big dog. I'm praying it heals soon so I reunite my with a job. Love watching your motivation thanks.
While preparing for my Triumph STR coolant change I've found this video very useful! I also think it is worth to check the bleed screw on the right hand side of the radiator while bleeding the system.
I love the fact that you add the chickens at the end of your videos or sometimes even during. Great videos too!
I’ve always babied my bike and been worried to do the wrong thing (or use the wrong part) and damage it somehow, which has led to a lot of expensive trips to the dealership to be sure it’s done right. Now that my bike is almost 10 years old, I’m starting to do my own work and feeling more confident about it, thanks to your videos!
Oil & Coolant is on my weekend todo list - thanks for the walkthru. Super helpful. Also, nice silkies!
Alright now I think we can date 😍 I’m a certified HD + Honda tech and while I’ve been admiring your videos lately this is the one that convinced me.
awesome video and still relevant for my 2017 Street Triple RS
Wow such an easy service, makes me want a bike even more!
Oil type is important for motorcycles because sometimes you have a wet clutch, also oil additives are usually a no no for the same reason. Great video Faye .
Actually, he’s right. I changed the clutch and was wondering why the oil recommendation was so specialized and specific. Thank you.
Am late on the upload but am here watching now. If she knows how to ride a bike she’s a way to perfect.
All round talented lady. 500mi is really short, I let mine go longer. My bike has a pressure cap and a overflow jug like on a car, so no crazy bleed screw or anything. '98 YZF600R 107,400+ miles.
Great video, Faye. Looks like you have the talent to work on just about everything? Love the chicken footage too. Keep up the great work.
The hot goth mechanic Faye on another great project
As always great video!👍🤘
Excellent! All through you're video Faye. Thank you. 👍😊
Good job! I only do the oil, R100/7 airhead
Nice video, but I Have only two questions: 1) how we have to set the level inside the expansion tank under the seat? 2) referring to the other screw on the right side of the radiator do you have any suggestion in order to avoid air bubbles in the cooling system?
Yes, sorry for not addressing this I was in a rush!! I heat cycle the engine several times before topping off the expansion tank (reservoir) and that will also work out air bubbles. The water pump will circulate coolant through the system and eventually work out all the air bubbles. I like to get it up to operating temp, run it for a few minutes at partial throttle, then let it cool down fully, top it off, and then you're good!
@@FayeHadley will the bike get hot if the air isn't removed?
Great video Faye! I would love it if our cars had better access to what we are trying to get to in the engine compartment.
In one of your previous videos you mentioned developing muscle memory. I changed the power steering fluid in my Honda this week, and my hands, fingers, and by extension the tools I was using are no longer connected to my brain! It was much harder than it would have been a couple of years ago.
I'm a chemist and worked in a wet lab most of my career. My hands and fingers were part of my tool set and did what I wanted done and without me thinking about it.
Now that I've been disabled and retired for 18 months, I just got to where I can start working on my own cars to have something I enjoy to do. I am so surprised that I lost that connection so quickly. I've also lost a lot of hand and finger strength. I'm going to keep working on my car and I think the control over my hands I used to have will return, at least I hope so.
Great to teach people they can do basic maintenance on their mc. Keep up the good videos!
Um I don't know if I saw that chart correctly but I'm pretty sure 500 is for the first and maybe second oil change (for engine break in). After that on all the bikes I've owned it is usually 2k some manuals say more.
Fair play Faye, you work at a very high standard. Best of luck with your new workshop venture. As we say in Ireland "may she wear well".
SICK!! I love the variety of content. Them chickens are cool.
Thanx for that video. Very helpful for me and my 2009 Street 3 R ^^
Awesome!!
You do bikes too!! Are you an angel??
Thanks for the video! Could you please tell me if it is necessary to drain from the drain screw, or you can just drain from the pipe which you used?
25 fig newton meters ok got it 👍👩🔧
Thanks for the video. However, only the first break in oil change is done at 500 miles. The next is at 6,000. The interval, after that, is every 6,000 miles. I change the oil in my bike every year while winterizing it. After watching this I think it would be good idea to change the coolant this year. I’m sure it is overdue. Thanks again.
YES!! THANK YOU!!! Got it ! Will change the video accordingly! Appreciate the info/feedback very much! I thought it was crazy!!!
So do you have a way of resetting the service light without triumph computer
where did you get that build or die sketch?
one like it would be perfect on my tool box or in my garage
Keep on bringing the awesome videos faye!!!
Hey, thanks for a great video. Just one question: what about a coolant tank under the seat? Does it have to be filled too and how much coolant do you need, is 2l enough?
See this is why I watch you Faye awesome tape trick why didn't I think of that 🤙😁
Great Video Faye!!....Do you have a motorcycle? I can see you owning one of these...
Just got a 2008 triumph street triple it's been setting for a year . Should I just drain the old coolant and run it with the distilled water? Or let it run with the old coolant? I'm changing the oil filter and oil and air filter first. Thanks for the video it's helpful never done nothing like this before this is my first bike
Awesome Faye!!!, your video helped me how finally get rid of the pesty coolant nastyness in my 2011 CBR1000RR, i knew i was missing some steps at some points, wish i could join you in bike ride some time, but that will wait till next season and when my ankle heals completely ( yeah i had an OJI so im off work for a few months ). ✌ btw Nice Bike..love it 😊
What up Faye!!??!! I have been watching you vids and you are awesome girl!! I think it is great that you really enjoy what you do and are not afraid to admit when you make a mistake or open to listen to others!! I am not a tat kinda guy but I will say that your shift pattern tat is pretty cool, I have not seen that one before!!!
Those triumph coolant bottles are not diluted. For the 675 it's 50/50. Did you mix?
I drain my coolant, then fill with coolant, drive it around for 2 days and then drain and refill again. I dont use plain water because I am worried I wont get all the water out on the 2nd drain and my coolant mixture will be below 50%. I have to work on my slanted driveway and I cant really get at the engine block coolant drain plug, so I actually cant drain it all out. I try to do my best given circumstances.
What was that second or upper crosshatch area on the dipstick? Very unusual looking to me.
The second was the full line - but it was only halfway up the dipstick!
Faye, too bad you are 2000 miles away, need a coolant flush for my bike. Great job!
OMG!!!! You know motorcycle too!!! You are a Goddess!!!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Your videos always help me, but now you reminded me I need a coolant flush in my Tacoma. Maybe you can show the best way in one of your videos?
Love seeing real garage work, crib blocks and cardboard creepers on a unpolished floor.
Cool, you work on motorcicles too. Q, do you have to use oil for motorcicles or can you just use car oil as long as its the same viscosity?
It is best to use motorcycle specific oil.
Many motorcycles, like the Triumph in the video have unit transmissions and a wet clutch.
What this means is the oil also lubricates the transmission and the clutch is in the oil.
This is hard on oil as transmission gears shear the oil and you get clutch wear particles in the oil as well.
In addition, many car oils are designed as much for gas mileage as protection.
Something that isn't done with bikes.
You also have some motorcycles that are air cooled (like most Harley's) and this puts greater emphasis
on an oils ability to resist thermal degradation. Car oils do not face this.
Lastly, motorcycles make far higher power for a given engine size than cars and have far higher redline engine speeds. Cars typically redline at 7000 rpms or less. Some motorcycle engines spin to 15000 rpms.
So the oil is in a much more demanding work environment.
So please do your bike a favor and use an oil type approved by the bike's manufacturer.
I don't work on motorcycles usually !! Toyotas are really all that I do. This one was an exception! And I think it is best to use motorcycle oil. Considering the fact that it is for the gearbox and engine, it must have a specific formula. I don't know enough about it to say for sure, but that's what I would do!
@@FayeHadley I actually swooned when I saw you responded to two of my comments!!! No kidding, I really feel like the kick ass kid at school just decided to have lunch at my table. Awesome!!
Bikes have some quirks that I have picked up over many years of riding. Much of my info on motorcycle oil formulas I gleaned from an engineer that writes for Cycle World, Kevin Cameron.
Please keep doing the occasional bike, this was a fun and informative video.
I love that you are teaching women about working on vehicles. So many bad shops take advantage of them.
You are like a personal hero of mine Amelia Earhart.
Kicking boundaries right in the head.
Never stop!!
You don't show anything with the overflow reservoir. Shouldn't you be filling that too to make sure it has enough excess?
I got a 09 triumph street triple 675 r and i barely find videos like these to try learn do stuff myself. Very informative but i think i am too afrad and clumsy to try it out haha
If I'm flushing the system and replacing with a non-triumph branded coolant do I need to drain and fill the expansion tank with any coolant?
Might want to check that again. Not saying it isn't right. But I'm pretty sure that is the break in oil change schedule. Also from the looks of that bike it needed it.
YES!! THANK YOU!!! Got it ! Will change the video accordingly! Appreciate the info/feedback very much! I thought it was crazy!!!
@@FayeHadley hey Faye. I live up here in the rust belt where Toyota frames just get destroyed. I found a really great deal on a 4 runner in pretty good shape and runs well , but the frame and bumpers are gone. It's way past the time where Toyota would do anything about it. Any ideal what the local salvage yards would charge for a good frame? Oh yah it's a 2000
Great video beautiful! Never fail to amaze and entertain!! ❤️🐞
Coolant bottle is an awesome idea.
Do I need to top that little tank up under seat? Thanks
I still have my first street bike, a 72 Triumph Tiger. Many years ago a friend was out of work and I let him clean the carbs and when he did he disconnected the battery and then hooked it up backwards. (Its a positive ground) he then kept replacing the fuse as it blew and added bigger ones. I have no idea what he cooked in the electrical system but she's dead.
On a 1972 its a pretty simple electrical system. Check the wire from the battery negative to the ignition switch. Check the switch. Check the wire to the ignition coils, check the coils, check the points. On the positive side of the battery check the fuse holder and wires and the ground.
I always wanted to know is this Brandon's G ride
Yes!!!! This is Brandon's!! That's why I work on it, otherwise I don't do motos! Just got it running again last night!!!
@@FayeHadley nice bike tho I was trying to find a triumph hard find for a decent price
Thanks Faye, great vid, much appreciated 🙏
Thank you!
The owners manual is a bit obtuse.
The 500 mile oil change is for the break-in service.
The oil change interval after that is every 6000 miles.
Most motorcycles require a break-in service between 500-1000 miles that includes an oil change
and checking various fasteners and such.
The intervals listed after the break-in are for the standard service intervals of the bike.
A paint pan works well for low slung bikes for catching the oil.
I also like to pour new oil into the filter and soak the filter material before putting it on.
This is so that the bike doesn't have to wait as long to build oil pressure while the new oil
fills up the new filter.
It reduces the time the engine is running dry essentially.
YES!! THANK YOU!!! Got it ! Will change the video accordingly! Appreciate the info/feedback very much! I thought it was crazy!!!
@@FayeHadley
You are more than welcome!!
I love your channel and my wife and I love you on All Girls Garage.
We have both determined that you are very likely the coolest person we wished we knew.
We also adore your chickens.
I will shut up now to avoid going on like the geeked out fanboy that I am.
Bikes too! Well it's a machine, of course. No problem. I saw the zip tie securing the funnel. Never thought about that. Good trick. My old Ford Escape's oil drained across the exhaust. I used foil to guide it away. Your chickies are like like children. "Veggies are good for you", says Momma Faye as they shake their head no.
I have a 1998 t509 this process would be pretty much the same correct?
What a cool funel.
What kind of marker do you use to mark the oil filter?
I have been using white-out but want to us something else.
Great video Faye. Really helps. Cheers
You do bikes too! Cool!
Jane of all mechanical 👍🏽
Awesome video dude
Disposable aluminum cooking tins like for thanksgiving make perfect low clearance oil drain pans.
Is purple your fav colour?
Faye, You’re not a Royal Purple fan?
Meh, not really
Royal purple is not at all the best oil they have do have great marketing though
My comment was not to imply quality of Royal Purple, more to jokingly suggest it as a good match for Faye’s overriding color scheme.
@@chuckdearruda6271 that went over my head apparently :)
Dest The Swimming Overseer , Very few people appreciate my subtle sense of humor.
This video is fantastic - thank you!
You silly goose! You follow the dots linearly. So you change the oil @ 500 (break in), 6,000 - 12,000 - 18,000. Only other thing would be flushing out the reservoir too. But everything else was spot on!
YES!! THANK YOU!!! Got it ! Will change the video accordingly! Appreciate the info/feedback very much! I thought it was crazy!!!
Nice to hear proper well spoken English, n yer a darlin' Faye !
Nice tattoos. Greetings from Mexico.
Hi Faye. Nice video.
Yeah this video reminds me I need to do an oil change on my bike
You read that maintenance manual incorrectly, motorcycle manuals are a bit different but they make sense once you figure it out. The mileage listed across the top 500 6000, 12000 Those are the mileages that you change the oil at, not the intervals. 500 is for break in mileage, much like a new car. Other than that, everything else is fine.
YES!! THANK YOU!!! Got it ! Will change the video accordingly! Appreciate the info/feedback very much! I thought it was crazy!!!
My Triumph 675 cooling fan is not turning please help me
👍👍👍👍
Faye. How do I get an estimate from you?
Even though that's an 09 that's one filthy bike, no wash first ?
F. please make a video about detect electric leaking in a car or something related about electronic.
I wish any of my bikes had a dip stick. They are all “sight gauges” where you have to stand the bike up and lean over to see the window. I’ve never done a Triumph any other way that using the lower radiator hose, seems like they are all in bad places.
You change the oil the first time at 500 miles . Then every 6,000 miles as per the maintenance chart you showed at the beginning of the video. 👍
AHHHH THANK YOU!!!
Wicked! Thanks for sharing! :)
Good vid. Thing is, now I have got to 'CHANGE THE COOLANT'. Been meaning to do it for bloody weeks. Ta.
Wow you ride motorcycles too, you are Awesome 🌹
Same oil I use from O'Reilly's 😊
It is every 6k 0:40
Thank you! I had to call the dealer and confirm because I was super confused, especially between the manual and the comments. They actually recommended every 3k!
Eres maravillosa Faye.
Your so fabulous Faye ❤️
Hey Daisy!
Great job, keep up good work. 🙂
Thank you.
You would think Scotty kilmer would do his own oil change and coolant flush.
Great video.
Hey look the chickens! :D
Good job beautifull lady
I wanted to C U doing some wheelies and stopies on a test ride!
Wow yea 500 miles is pretty frequent.
Hey Faye, A shout out from Lubbock Tx here! I was wondering if you would happen to have any stickers for my toolbox at work of your logo? Id love to represent!! I dont mind buying/paying shipping ect, Just would love to deck out my matco 6s!!
