    This saved me on a bike trip. I went from PA to Tennessee with my rear tire plugged. Then got a new tire for the return home. Great system that is well worth a place in your pannier.

    I'm curious do you think you could or have you ever tried to use tire/rubber cement I'm the hole or on the plug head as lube? I always put rubber cement all over the regular kind of plugs before pushing them in it helps lube it to go in and helps seal the plug to the tire in the hole. Also it helps prevent air from being able to push in between layers of tire and causing a bubble under the rubber.

    This looks very good better than the string system but does the kit not had a tube of rubber adhesive to seal it on the in side tyre? As for oil thats a No no this could come out? but with adhesive it sealed in place to the wall of the tyre other wise good job

    I carried this with me on my bmw. Luckily I never had to use it. I did use it on my jeep though. For my bike I also carried a set of varied sized screws. For a quick fix one could just screw in a screw if your close to home or your destination so you aren't hurried or in danger next to the road while putting the plugs.

    Instead of oil I would use rubber vulcanizing adhesive. Before fully cured it's slippery enough for the plug to be inserted. Overall I think this product is great better than the rubber rod tire patching kit sell at the auto store.

    I've had this kit for a few years. No longer have a bike, but I use it on my truck tires, and it is so much better than the string plugs. In fact, I've used it to replace a few leaking string plugs, which only last so long before they eventually become a slow leak. I recommend you use silicone spray as opposed to petroleum oil, since oil eventually deteriorates rubber. Very clear video, nicely done!

      I have repaired more tires in my 35 years than you can ever think about repairing and I can guarantee you that if installed properly a string plug WILL NOT LEAK! If not installed properly or if the tire was damaged in such a way that it shouldn't have been plugged then yes of course it will leak. A novice such as yourself probably doesn't know a repairable tire from a non repairable tire so i'm not surprised in your ignorance that you would think they would leak. Just because you didn't know any better and couldn't get yours to hold doesn't mean that none of them do. Some of us have a brain and know what we are doing.

    • @mikek8632
      @mikek8632 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's temporary at best and should never be considered permanent. The only true permanent repair of ANY tire is to dismount it from the rim, fill the injury channel with a pull through insert and a boot on the inside or with a patch plug combination repair. Literally no other sort of repair is considered permanent by the US DOT. Honestly it depends on where the injury is in the tire as well. With the tire being on the rear I would have fixed it as long as it's not near the sidewall but frankly if it were on the front then no way, get a new tire. If a rear blows it's much easier to control the bike to bring it to a stop but if the front goes you're screwed and your life it worth way way more than a $220 tire isn't it? I know it's frustrating when it happens but if you think of it in those terms you will see it generally makes sense. Besides on a bike you only have 2 tires where as on a passenger vehicle you have at least 4 if not 6 on a dully.

      You definitely don't want to use any lubricant on the reamer - the purpose of it is to 'clean' the surrounding rubber of any foreign materials or contaminants, and prepare the rubber for gripping onto the plug - should be shredding rubber and not just sliding past. It takes some effort but you definitely don't want to add lube here. Best thing is for as much friction between the tyre rubber and mushroom plug stem as possible.

      Genghis Chuan Mine is actually 27 but multiples of 5 tends to be what people round to rather than being exact so no, it isn't amazing it is quite logical and predicatable.
      Good attempt at trying to discredit it but the fact is if you don't remove a tyre from a rim to inspect its internal condition then you are not repairing the tyre correctly. People have blowouts every day from incorrectly repaired tyres and this is one of the reasons why.

    • @mikek8632
      @mikek8632 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually genghis you are wrong. Just because you know what punctured your tire does NOT mean you know what it looks like inside. I have seen basic nail punctures in the tread area that have done serious damage to the inside of the tire. The reason for removing the tire and actually inspecting it is to find this damage and properly repair it. If the nail/bolt/screw went in at an angle there is a good chance that instead of a hole on the inside there is a split and if that's the case no sort of exterior repair is going to make that tire safe, it would need to be ground down and then a proper insert and boot/patch applied to the inside to stop the split from getting larger and causing more damage or blowing out. You simply cannot tell what kind of damage is caused on the inside of the tire unless you take it off and inspect it. I have been doing this for over 30 years and I have NEVER had a single tire I repaired blow out and cause any damage or loss of life. Sure I have had a few come back weeks or years later that started leaking again but the vast majority of them have been situations that really shouldn't have been repaired in the first place but if the tire wasn't going to be used on the road it wasn't a big deal. You really should learn what you are talking about before spouting off like a fool.

      I brought the kit and carried it under the rear seat cowl of my Honda FireBlade motorcycle, The kit had the more compact and reliable threaded rod tool, Instead of the gun, I only used it only once, It would not hold correct pressure, But did hold enough pressure to ride to a garage for a repair that would hold correct pressure, Maybe I was a bit unlucky in not getting a real tight seal, But I doubt it, I think your right, It`s a temporary repair to get you off the side of the road

    • @chunhaylee
      @chunhaylee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@xmoroseguyx Tire plugs are like that. It they work they work. Sometimes they have a slow leak, in which case you take it into the shop. But if it works and it seals then there is no need to do anything else. Just like everything else in life. You start out with the cheapest and least invasive fix. If that doesn't work then you go on to the next fix, all the way up to replacing the whole tire. But you always start with the cheapest and simplest fix first. If that works then you're golden.

      Bikes build better....these things used for a repair are for novices who just need to get to a repair shop. These are not a permanent repair and are NOT better than a properly installed string plug. The reason your shop guys don't like string plugs is most likely because they don't use them properly and these things even a monkey could do. I have to laugh at your use of "oil" on the plug insertion....nothing like putting a petroleum product on rubber to make it deteriorate. Also there is no bonding agent with this insert and the tire therefore it will have much more of a chance to leak than a properly inserted string plug as they have the bonding agent already applied to them right out of the package.

    • @DeejayP999
      @DeejayP999 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've only used Stop N Go once and it failed to seal. The sticky string that replaced it lasted the life of the tyre. Stop N Go relies on a perfect puncture: A round hole that's perpendicluar to the tread. Anything else and it just won't seal. Plus Stop n Go plugs have lubricant instead of adhesive which means that sooner or later they will fall out. They're over priced crap basically.

      String plugs are dangerous and are a temp repair only even for a car and especially for a motorcycle. Sure, you may have used them and not had an issue, but that doesn’t mean they’re preferred. The kit I got that’s like this calls for using vulcanizing cement with them, not oil. Using that and the mushroom is much preferred. The air pressure on the mushroom acts with physics to keep the plug in place in addition to the cement, which makes the plug a part of the tire rubber.
      The best is to do a proper patch though. But if the two, string plugs are least preferred. Even string packaging tells you it’s temporary.
