I have a huge respect for you. When I hear 2 essays a week my university seems preety easy and simple. The time management skills and discipline you must have aquired during the last 4 years must be excellent. 👌🏾👌🏾
Vee I would love to hear more about the history behind the buildings in Oxford - It's something I totally didn't realise had a negative history and I think it would be so great and important to be educated on it
Here are some articles which discuss the colonialist history of Oxford and some of its monuments which have strong imperialist ties: www.theguardian.com/education/2016/jan/28/cecil-rhodes-statue-will-not-be-removed--oxford-university www.theguardian.com/cities/2018/sep/26/statue-wars-what-should-we-do-with-troublesome-monuments www.oxfordmartin.ox.ac.uk/about/old-indian-institute/ www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/may/31/oxbridge-land-monopoly-universities-ownership-inequalities www.theguardian.com/education/2017/dec/22/oxford-university-accused-of-backing-apologists-of-british-colonialism www.theguardian.com/education/2016/mar/09/understanding-britain-past-is-key-to-its-future This blog called ‘uncomfortable Oxford’ has blog posts written by students not only looking at some of the architecture of Oxford but also other aspects of Oxford’s history and how it links to imperialism: www.uncomfortableoxford.co.uk/blogs It’s great that you want to learn more about the history of these buildings, it’s an important issue to educate yourself on! However, often people place the onus on people of colour to educate others on topics such as colonialism (especially white people, as they have the privilege of never really having to learn about the atrocities committed by the British empire, as imperial history has always favoured them), when it really isn’t their job to explain how Britain has profited off of the exploitation of their ancestors if that makes sense, sort of like what Vee was saying in the video about how it isn’t her job to solve the institutional problems surrounding diversity and inclusivity. Once again though it’s really good you want to learn! I’m not trying to criticise you, I just think that whenever you have the ability (and we all have google, so) its important to take initiative to try to educate yourself on stuff like this rather than relying on people of colour ygm?
You're such a positive person, I am shocked! 😂😂 I don't need to study much, but when I do I stress out so much (I understand languages like it's no big deal, but basic physics will give me nightmares), but I really really look up to you and how you handle stuff. Stay awesome 💗 (Btw your hair is great)
Regarding the (in)accessibility - I totally agree. BBC I think actually wrote an article on it, detailing how Oxford over recruits from just eight (private) schools. I think the best strategy would be to anonymise applications - not including the applicant's gender, their race/ethnicity, or the name of their school, and inviting people for interviews simply based on their academic and extracurricular performance, and their personal statement. I feel like that would make Oxford incredibly diverse and create an even stronger cohort.
voldemort you’d think that, honestly! But people from state schools are invited because of their achievements in context - I went to a ‘bad’ school and got good results for my year and they assign points for that, it’s surely the reason I got to interview! Race/gender definitely be blind to (I hope they are mostly!) but the school you went to and the access you’ve had to extra programmes is often unfairly balanced towards those with money :(
voldemort I do agree, but part of the problem is that not enough minority group students apply! Action is taken to give poorer students an extra chance, making the applications completely blind would make stats worse, not better.
I've only recently found out your TH-cam channel and I'm obsessed! You're so positive and seem like a lovely human being Vee :) I wish you all the best for your future and please keep making videos!
Thank you Vee. This is why I watch all your post, very balanced . Love you and you inspire me , specifically when you are not perfect and still carry on. Please don't let pressure and expectations get you down. Good luck
Can you make a video on the micro aggressions you experience? I'm not a black woman and I'm worried that I may do this even though I don't mean to and that's no excuse. I want all people to feel like I value them for the ppl they are and not have to feel like they have to validate themselves to me or anyone else.
Hi Jessica, there's this really good book called Citizen: An America Lyric, in which the author Claudia Rankine explores the mico aggressions she's experienced as a black woman in America, I'm sure there are other books/ articles/ videos online which you can use to educate yourself which are orientated towards predominantly white spaces in Britain too. It's so great that you want to educate yourself and learn about this type of behaviour so you can avoid it and hopefully educate others when you see it, but often white people place the onus on people of colour to use their time and energy to educate them on it even when there are resources available which can help you do this yourself, I know that you just want to be as inclusive as possible and make sure that you're not being racist without realising, and I really applaud you for that, but it's just something to think about yk?
So I’m Zimbabwean , and after my Olevel and AS results I was like hey maybe I can make it at Oxford so I wanna apply to Oxford for next year but looking at the requirements and all the studytubers I watch it’s all seeming like a far dream now , I mean literally what are the chances 😂🤦🏽♀️. So scared of rejection. Please do a video on the application process
OMG, I also hate that 4th year is the only year that counts. In Kenya, we follow the British Education system, so literally what I got in my previous years doesn't count 😭😭😭 Yet we work so hard for that. 4th year is stressful, especially with the research projects. I love your channel and can't wait to see how you keep growing. 😍 And lol, congrats on getting accepted to Harvad.
Girl. I just want to say you deadass have that regal African Princess look. Also I wanted to say that I love how you're doing your hair. Realest African girl life😂
I love your hair so much! I have 3c hair and was wondering, don’t you put product in your hair when it’s wet? Then it stops breakage and it’s easier to detangle 💜💜
Hi Vee! I'd like to ask you, what are your plans for the future? Do you want to get another degree or get into Academia? Sorry if you've already answered this, I'm new to the channel.
Have you met any students from the North East? I have my LMH foundation year interview next week and I’m really worried about being the only one from my background.
When I did my MA in Classical Studies at the OU, my tutor use to give me a reading list of different books which I could read and they were the tutors at the OU. I had a few books from Mary Beard for my MA and she is very good. Do you have her as an instructor because she was listed in your Reading List? What are you going to do after you finish your degree?
I'm sosososo proud of you Vee. Everything that you've accomplished, you deserve it. You've done so amazing on your journey through university and you're a blessing/inspiration to many. You're destined for greatness and excellence in life. May God open many doors for you Vee in Jesus name! Continue flourishing and excelling, you're a superstar.
Lololol.. we get hop from library to library... This is cuter than you think. Oh look there's a hundred libraries. Let's hop from over to the other. Lolololol😂😂🥰
I love the work hard, play hard culture you mention. I go to university in Canada but I have friends in some UK schools and they find it so fascinating that people study but also are very active in societies or student government. Personally, I'm an executive member of the African Student Society and the Poetry Collective but I also write for student newspapers and stuff, and it all works to make my university experience so much better. It's not everyday book book!
and i thought that only our second and third year counting was annoying! that's crazy and so wrong that only your final year counts... but you can do it!! 😊
wow.......I would never imagine my prof. being the same person on the reading list. I always write some trashy essays and might have some misinterpretations on various theories(honestly, if I am that perfect, then what's the point to get a degree). That would be so stressful............. They knew their theories by heart and would immediately spot the flaws. (not sure if it's a good thing or not) Also, love u so much Vee💛
Rachel Hau just like how the professor that wrote my biology text books is my teacher here in SSU the renowned science hub it’s crazy now I think of it

I’ve always wanted to know how to braid my 4C hair.....I really need a tutorial vee 😫😭😭😭
Lol having 4C hair sucks. I just go to the hairdresser lol
Constantly watch TH-cam videos nd try then try braiding ur own hair. I have 4c hair, I learnt how to braid although it ain't the neatest
Try African threading and flat twisting that will stretch out ur hair with out heat and it will make your hair easier to braid
ahhh! the queen is back and i'm loving your hair! 😂💗
Mary beard as a tutor that's so cool !!!

I think it's great that you did a final year review. I really enjoy self reflection
Your hair is GORGEOUS!!!
Spray your hair with aloe juice and mix castor oil with honey and leave it for 30-50 minutes and then wash and condition.
I would love to see your hair after doing the twist method! :D
How your hair transformed is so fascinating to me x) So pretty
MARY BEARD?!?! Oh my god i love her

Hi Vee, do you know of any postgrad students at Oxford that have told you how hard the entry to the uni was for them?

I am glad to say the uni societies point applies to all UK universities
Congratulations on final year! 👏
I love your hair!😍
I went from 05-09 - hated every minute but graduated and was even an academic scholar.

Mary Beard teaches at Cambridge so doesn’t teach at Oxford !
My friend used to use TCB - remember it smelling lovely
You're beautiful with your natural hair 😍
Do you read all the listed books for essays entirely or do you search for particular lines that will help you?
Me: can't properly do even one long braid
Vee: does a whole dozen of braids with short hair
Love u so much, ur just wonderful💖💖
