      Hi
      You can leave before the 12 year point, that's the RAF commitment to you, 12 years guaranteed employment. However, depending on how you're streamed you may not have completed all of your training until 3-4 years into service and we expect a minimum return of service post training because we've spent a lot of time and money training you for a specific role.
      You have several years before you're able to apply, keep looking into the RAF and the role and decide when you're ready to apply.

    Does anyone know how difficult it is to re-trade once you're in? I can't imagine they would want to retrain a person after they've spent 4 years in their role. Would you have to quit and reapply?

    • @royalairforce
      @royalairforce  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi
      We advise everyone to apply for the role they really want to do because you could be doing it for a long time, so it needs to be right for you.
      You can ask for a retrade at phase one or initially into phase two training, but only if you meet the qualifications and have passed the aptitude scoring for what you'd like to change to. And even then it's highly unlikely as there are training slots to fill for each intake etc.
      Choose the right role for you at the start, it will make your career much better.

      There are learning centres on most RAF stations where you can gain further qualifications. This is usually done in your own time, but if it's required as part of your role then you may get time off to study. But you will need to meet all of the entry requirements for the role you wish to apply for before you can submit your application.

    The RAF is everything I look for in a job, unfortunately I’m not sure I would cope at war though. I would rather do “behind the scene” kind of roles. My main interests are the electrician, aircraft maintenance, and police (police i believe would be more frontline with the reg tho) However, all personnel are still soldiers first, I’ve got a few months until I can apply so I’m going to go to a careers adviser at some point and perhaps a recruiter too. I really want to join but with how wars are going currently, I question whether it would be worth it. On the contrary, if war was to break out, I can only assume civilians would be drafted into war too though. Does anyone here have any experience as a similar role to what I’m interested in?

      Henry Johnson I worked very, very hard and it just wasn't enough. In 1993 they just weren't recruiting pilots and selection was only for the very best. My Dad was in the RAF and it was my dream to be a pilot, but I just let it all go because I was rejected for pilot training. That is something I have always regretted because you can do anything in the RAF and still be proud of what you do.

      Hi
      We have entire videos dedicated to the RAF Regiment on the channel. We need to promote all of the roles in the RAF, not just the Regiment. And this video is several years old too.

      considering the UK is very equal in rights an pretty much no one gets judged by colour or race i'd say yes
      i just read on the website, it says you need to have lived in the UK for five years before you apply and leave for no more than 28 days per year

      Men already know they can be in the RAF, so they put more effort into letting women, an underrepressented and underexploited recruitment source, know they can join too.
