  • This old car has out lived it's expiration date. I would have figured all these cars would have been crushed by now. I almost feel sorry for these old 80's econo cars, not many ppl want to keep these cars going anymore.

Same here, dude! Got it around 1996. Had this cool digital eq up on a little pedestal in front of the stereo! Head gasket problem took it down in green smoke. Much love for that car.

My first car I ever had. Blue. And when you went over 85mph, the digital dash would just flash 85

I owned one of these and drove it from NJ to CA when I migrated to the west back in '88. It was a great car! It was the beginning of Buick's "down-size" error due to the oil crises of that era. Fun car!

This was my first brand new car I bought. It was a 1985 Somerset Regal, two door, two tone car, Tan and goldish brown. I loved everything about that car and the digital dash was awesome. I had that car for six years and never had one problem with it. Only reason I got rid of it was that I had gotten married and had a baby. It sucked putting a car seat in. We in turn bought a 1990 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Regency, which was another excellent car.

I had one, a 1985 that I owned from about 1988-1991. Very nice car, blue with blue interior, 2.5 Tech 4 motor. The radio was a proprietary unit made just for the car, and mounted on top of the pod in the center, with a separate tape deck, which made it very hard to put in an aftermarket unit. The roof was rusting out above the windshield, so I traded it in on a 1988 Century with a 3.8!

I had one same color. Minr hazd electric door locks. Power windows cruse control bose factory stereo .drove and road like a cadilac. It was a great car. Big enough yet small enough if that makes sence. Great fuel milage plenty of power. And i thought it had great looks.the whells and tires on the one in the video really detract from the cars looks. Anyway is One of my favorite daily drivers i ever owned. I still think about her today....GREAT CAR

It was a good looking car back in the day. I remember my uncle renting one which had a V6 and pretty snappy low-end acceleration...he also told me the speedo flashed '85' when he passed someone on a 2-lane road.

My dad had the exact same 85 somerset color and all with a five speed manual four-cylinder iron Duke. Lasted about 50,000 miles and then completely fell apart. Was a nice car at first

    Had one.
    It had a digital dashboard.
Super sweet. I'd turn it KMH.
FYI it flashes at 88 MPH or 144 KMH.
I still use that as my metric conversation.
That was also a base model.

Recently found one of these in great condition at a local garage sale. Got it for 750 bucks, when I get everything ready to roll i'll be sure to take some good pictures and video of the inside and outside of it. Not much to be seen of these on the internet!

that was my second car. sucked! ignition module would go out random and leave you stranded. It was based off the buick skylark. Also the paint peeled off really bad from the primer all over the car

The reason you have not seen one is planned obsolescence, GM really succeeded in making every part on that car fail out of warranty. The head gasket would make a milkshake out of the engine the day the warranty ran out. Toyota received millions of loyal GM customers by the 90's !

A rebadged Skylark, since they weren't selling under that name. These cars unfortunately were built on one of GM's worst car lines, using two of GM's worst engines of the time. The 2.5L was notorious from throwing rods and causing fires (giving the Fire-o its well-deserved reputation), and the 3.0L V6 was no better. GM simply tried to reinvent the wheel far too much in the 80s, and it came back to bite them in a big way. By the time they realized their mistakes, they barely got back to making good cars again before corporate bigwigs canned their best engineers to start fresh with Johnny and Jenny Jackass.
Who were, of course, barely out of engineering school and still apparently in their drug-induced stupors from college, from the BS designs they've been putting out in recent years. My last GM product was a Malibu. Traded for a Toyota within nine months and don't plan to own another late-model Big Three product as long as they put profits before consumers by sacrificing quality and common sense. Even their dealers are morons.
