There's a whole bit in the plot about how James and Draco are extremely similar people, while Harry and Snape mirror each other. However, as James and Snape got older, they were both changed through their interactions with Lily. The whole reason Lily wouldn't date James was because he was a bully, and that's why she always stood up for Snape. It's the same as saying Draco and Harry bullied eachother. Draco is a complex character, but he was a bully, and Harry only ever duelled him in self-defense.

What surprised me most was that some Movie fans think that Lily should’ve chosen Snape over James… It’s true that James was a bully as a kid, but he grew out of it, joined the Order of Phoenix, finally died for his family. On the other hand, Snape became a loyal Death Eater despite Lily’s warnings, and asked Voldemort to kill Harry and James (2 innocent people) and spare Lily. If the Chosen One wasn’t Lily’s son, Snape would still be a Death Eater during the whole series. Regardless, he is one of my favorite characters, I love his « redemption » at the end because it’s so emotional and changed my perspective, but I can’t say that Snape was good for Lily, who hated the fact that he called her and other Muggleborns « mudbloods »

GUYS you’re forgetting that Snape had Mulciber and Avery to back him up, and Remus didn’t fight so apart from some of the time when all 7 of them would hex each other individually it was a fair fight, and Peter was not a good fighter back in the day so really it was 2 of the best fighters against Snape and his greasy friends.

Meanwhile, Sirius is living in a nightmare house that turns violently toxic and abusive after he is placed in the "wrong house". Like, Walburga was ~like that~ the whole time. (Portraits are a good representation of personality) So seeing sneering Snape, with his wildly racist ideas and sneering attitude, trips every trigger Sirius has. Plus, Snape isn't a cousin or family friend, which would have confusing feelings (that Sirius would never admit to) of old affection. Pureblood incest for the win? James and Snape's soon-to-be Death Eater buddies are just drawn into the conflict from their loyalty to their friends. I think one of the main reason Snape and James hated each other was because of Lily, James hated snape bc he was a Slytherin and was clear friends with Lily, so he saw that as a threat to his affections with her. Same thing with Snape. He grew up in an abusive home so resented James who he thought was spoiled, arrogant, and thought himself better than others and reveled in the attention. Thats why he hated harry so much, he believed Harry loved the fame and attention he was getting, and mistakenly believed Harry was spoiled. Harry was sassy and cheeky to Snape because that was the only way he could get back at the Dursleys for their treatment of him. People with a bad childhood tend to be defensive, sarcastic, and sassy when faced with bullying or someone they dont like, I have met many people like that. Neither James or Snape were good people, plus this was during their teenage years, and im sure James regretted how he treated Snape, if only for Lily's sake. James DID change, only because Lily wouldn't have been with him if he stayed the way he was.

What surprised me most was that some Movie fans think that Lily should’ve chosen Snape over James… It’s true that James was a bully as a kid, but he grew out of it, joined the Order of Phoenix, finally died for his family. On the other hand, Snape became a loyal Death Eater despite Lily’s warnings, and asked Voldemort to kill Harry and James (2 innocent people) and spare Lily. If the Chosen One wasn’t Lily’s son, Snape would still be a Death Eater during the whole series. Regardless, he is one of my favorite characters, I love his « redemption » at the end because it’s so emotional and changed my perspective, but I can’t say that Snape was good for Lily, who hated the fact that he called her and other Muggleborns « mudbloods »

I think one of the main reason Snape and James hated each other was because of Lily, James hated snape bc he was a Slytherin and was clear friends with Lily, so he saw that as a threat to his affections with her. Same thing with Snape. He grew up in an abusive home so resented James who he thought was spoiled, arrogant, and thought himself better than others and reveled in the attention. Thats why he hated harry so much, he believed Harry loved the fame and attention he was getting, and mistakenly believed Harry was spoiled. Harry was sassy and cheeky to Snape because that was the only way he could get back at the Dursleys for their treatment of him. People with a bad childhood tend to be defensive, sarcastic, and sassy when faced with bullying or someone they dont like, I have met many people like that. Neither James or Snape were good people, plus this was during their teenage years, and im sure James regretted how he treated Snape, if only for Lily's sake. James DID change, only because Lily wouldn't have been with him if he stayed the way he was.
James didn't change if you read the books you would see that James went behind her back and only pretended to change Severus is a gray character. Because who wouldn't retaliate against someone like that? And because he grew up the way he grew up in an abusive home and an abusive school. How else do you expect him to turn out? Of course he would turn out like this. What do you expect?

James/Severus is the same as Harry/Draco. So if James is a bully, Harry is a bully too. And none of them are. I don't care. Neither Harry nor James are bullies. YES, the rivalry between James and Sverus went too far sometimes.

He even later on, and we see this because it’s canonic in the books when Harry sees memories of his father threatens Snape, that if he didn’t like Lily, he would’ve Kirsten by now. And this was a later on in the years, Lupin literally admits to the fact that he only became a perfect so that he can pull James back because of how horse and how bad the bullying happen. It got to a point where they almost had lupine expose for being a werewolf and could’ve got him kicked out of Hogwarts, because of them being a little assholes to Severus, and inviting him to come out when they knew that lupine was going to be a werewolf. Severus isn’t perfect but for fucks sake, the man was abused by his father, neglected by his mother only had one friend who genuinely Lily was a shitty ass person, because she never really seem to have tried to do anything with his boy who is infatuated with her to stop him from bullying her best friend who was also dirt poor compared to James. He was part of the secret 28. One of the richest families in the wizard world and only child and spoiled fucking rotten which are all for canonic things that we learn in the books. Then she gets taken from him after her lover boy pull is the absolute shit out of him. He moves him for like the 17th time, and it is canonic that McGonagle even admits to the fact that she wasn’t as hard on James and his getting as she should have been because of how charming they were. She literally missed that she should’ve been harder on them because she let them get away with things that no other student in Hogwarts would have ever gotten away with which alludes to the point that they probably did a lot worse than we actually got to see.
