This is still one of my all-time favorite films. I feel sorry for young people, especially boys, who can't grow up with movies like these where they could learn that men could be strong, heroic and still be caring individuals who could face and overcome life's challenges.
I know exactly what you mean. It's almost sacrilege to hear of young males acting like young males these days. Hell, some people won't be happy until young lads are wearing pinnies and fluffy carpet slippers.
I love this film, too. Turn off the news, guys. It's BS. I'm an older teacher. Things haven't changed much at all. The same values are still there. The only thing different is that people who are different aren't ridiculed by staff or students... hopefully. The best are still encouraged to be the best, but the weakest aren't humiliated. That works for sports and academic subjects. School should be a completely positive experience that encourages everyone to keep learning throughout life.

It was not an accident that the English Book of Prayer contained this sentence: "Protect us, oh Lord, from the wrath of the Northmen."
I remember watching this and thinking how ridiculous the constant re-working of the same passage throughout different scenes of the movie became. "The Action Scene" (Ta DAHHHH DAH). "The Romantic Scene" (Ta-dahhhhh-dahhhhh). "The Comic Relief" (do dooooo..doup)....
A really great movie about the Vikings. Some interesting trivia: Kirk Douglas was born to Jewish parents, as was the director Richard Fleischer. While in the role of Ragnar you've got the Italo-American Earnest Borgnine. Not exactly the kind of cast, Nazi producers would have selected, lol.

Superb movie seen it many times, as a kid in the 60`s to now. Great acting, story and music score. One of my Mum & Dad`s favorites.
