Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith, Alfred Newman, Ennio Morricone , Jerome Moross -- Man, those guys could really compose some great music. Sadly, they're all gone now and we're unlikely to see talent like that again.

Hard not to love a John Wayne movie with a great Elmer Bernstein soundtrack.

The incomparable Elmer Bernstein! Jazz, symphonic or ensemble- he could handle it all - and with a rare gift for melody!

A truly wonderful and typical Bernstein score. It has the classic 1960s "epic" film sound which it, of course, Bernstein practically invented and defined.
    Best wishes from Vermont 🍁

“The Sons Of Katie Elder” (1965) is a well known example of the later classic Hollywood westerns, starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, James Gregory and George Kennedy.
The four Sons of Katie elder return for their Mother's funeral and decide to get their ranch back from the town's gunsmith, who won it from their father in a card game, after which he was murdered…
Very enjoyable and considered to be one of the last westerns of the golden(er) years, the acting and the directing by Henry Hathaway take you to a lovely experience.
Fun also, is the music by Hollywood’s man for westerns (during the 60s and 70s), Elmer Bernstein, who provided an all in all lively and exciting score, as we know and love ‘em. Enjoy!

Elmer Berstein had a way with westerns. He fully bought into Copeland's ideas and we are all richer for it. Thanks Fred!
    Oh...
    And the cat went "Fiddle-I-Fee".

Elmer Bernstein was an excellent music composer. He also did the musical score for the 10 Commandments 😮. That was awesome music. 👍

    Thanks Fred❤
    Great Elmer Bernstein🤠
In my opinion, Bernstein with John Wayne's films and not only him, has proven to be the last pillar of the classic western!
Research: The dialogues are never banal and full of sharp bickering, the performances of great depth and a very confident direction make this ensemble western a remarkable work.

Between Magnificent Seven, Katie Elder and True Grit, Bernstein wrote the soundtrack for the American West.

Hello, Fred! A marble angel for the tomb of Katie Elder, born in Ohio, undated... Since " The Magnificent Seven " Bernstein interrupted his jazzy/ small orchestra sound for a while, embarking on the " Copland/ Moross school " in a series of westerns that made him famous around the world. " Katie Elder is one of them, bringing almost the same time signature for strings as the 1960 film, the main melody with some changes and a catchy melodic second verse in the same structure with woodwinds and small " nods " to folklore Mexican. A formula that Bernstein himself admitted was " repetitive ", but pleasant and brings back good memories... Thanks and bye!!
