    I really appreciate seeing you make mistakes and solving them. I feel that a good majority of us are afraid to mess up and think the project is shot when we do, but you show us how to fix issues that sometimes seem beyond repair. Awesome videos!

    just a note
    I followed your instructions to a T just because I loved the design
    The light isn't too strong which makes your choice of lighting very bad. It doesn't even work as a reading lamp. I ended up replacing the led strip with an led aluminum strip (you can find it on ebay or dhgate, really cheap) that had an 18000 lumen rating. Worked like a charm
    But other than that your design and implementation were flawless
    Thank you

  • @lawrencejob
    @lawrencejob 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great design!! If you do it again, you can use an aluminium strip behind the LEDs (and thermally conductive glue) and it really helps for cooling!

    I wanted to watch this when it first came out, but got distracted and just got back to it. This is one of my favorites, Mike! The design and aesthetics of this one are just killer! And I learned a bunch of tricks too!

    Use a string with a weight attached ar the end, tie the other end to the LED lights, and you can pull it through while keeping it taunt and therefore the lights oriented in the correct direction!! Love your creativity.

  • @dustinalbertson4528

    One tip i would have for this is to cut the false ends off of the original board before you channel it out so that the wood grain matches on the final piece.
    Or better yet would be to route out the area for the LEDs and only cut one side open so that the finished side (outside) doesnt have any cuts seen.

    This lamp is so awesome! I’m really glad you found that tubing. I’ve been playing with an idea for awhile and that tube is the solution to at least one of the problems (still a work in progress for WAY down the road). Awesome design too! Love that extra back triangle addition.

    • @modustrial
      @modustrial  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Michael! I might, but also might use clear silicon tube. It was pretty simple to use, and if I hadn't overshot my channel width at the table saw, it probably would have looked pretty clean with clear epoxy over it (which would have simplified it a bit).

    Have you tried ecopoxy, you can do large pours without having to wait for layers to dry.

    • @modustrial
      @modustrial  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, but total boat is more affordable and cures quicker. Also hear a strong rumor that total boat will be releasing a deep pour epoxy soon ;)

  • @TheNinja691

    I didn’t see how you removed the plastic tube. How did you do it?

  • @kararalqazwini7041
    @kararalqazwini7041 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would make the removable part very thin layer of epoxy with some tiny clips to the inside to be attached to the wood. To keep the balance in the lamp, I would add some iron from the inside front of the concrete to keep it balanced instead of adding extra wood and changing my design. Good job, I’ll use this idea in different design, as I’ll make it as a bar drop light (no concrete needed). Thanks for sharing.

  • @WereAllThatBored
    @WereAllThatBored 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ive never worked with concrete so maybe this question is basic but is there a reason you guys dont use sulfur free clay to seal a mold over silicone? Ive used clay and fillet shapers for massive silicone pours with zero leaks so it seems like it would be a huge time saver here as well.

    • @modustrial
      @modustrial  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if the clay is waterproof? If it is and doesn't bond to concrete then it could work.

    • @WereAllThatBored
      @WereAllThatBored 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Modustrial Maker it’s a non drying reusable clay thats oil and wax based. Doesn’t stick to anything that I’ve used it on. Makes perfect round fillets so in terms of finishes you can get a perfect half inch round finish and need little to no finish work on the edge. Works with epoxy, polyester, silicone with no reaction. Can’t find anything about water reaction though so good question.

      Yes, they could be cleaner....this whole series is about experimenting with process and design....these are prototypes, not meant to be a refined product ready to be sold.

    Hey man, I've just found your channel and binged a lot of videos. Great ideas and content!
    One thing I would have done slightly different is to leave a piece of tubing inside the concrete mold so the wiring remains completely invisible. You could even leave an opening to the upper part of the base to place the on/off switch, that would be neat!

    • @modustrial
      @modustrial  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Juan, and welcome to the community! That would be a great modification to run the wires thru the concrete. Keep the ideas coming!

    8 из 10 за идею, 2 из 10 за реализацию. Думаю, КПД получившегося устройства как обогревателя выше, чем как источника света. И стыки деревянных элементов выглядят очень кустарно.

    Hey guy what was the music used for the video ?

    • @modustrial
      @modustrial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't recall the specific song names, but I get all my music from epidemic sound. Also if you use Shazam, it works to identify most of the songs in the epidemic sound library

      It was either "movie letters" or "dark, tall, and handsome" and I stretched it out to get the look I wanted. Both should be free to download if you search.
