This video shows the DIY installation of a 100w, 12v solar panel. All the product used in this video is just for the project. The entire project is done under $ 300 and it took less than a day.
    How to choose correct solar
So let’s see what is the meaning of 100W solar panel. In ideal weather condition when we have maximum of sun light then this solar panel can produce 100W of power for an hour.
Since the panel voltage is 12V and we know wattH/Volts = AmpsHour so the panel can deliver maximum (100/12 =) 8.3 Amps of current for an hour.
If we consider on an average we get 3 hours of peak sunlight every day, then the panel would produce 100W X 3 = 300 Watt hour of energy everyday.
Now with this assumption the panel can deliver 24.9 amps hour a day.
But in reality there are so many factors that actually reduce the above numbers. So let’s be realistic and assume 70% of the total energy is what we can get every day. So that brings the numbers 210W per day and that can deliver approximately 17 Amps of current every day. The charger which comes with the solar, has an ideal Amps rating of 5.8 amps per hour. So which would produce around 17 Amps in 3 hours based on the above calculation.
If we want to use this energy then we need to store it to a battery. Now question is what kind of battery I would need? To determine that you need to consider the following cases, First: you need a battery which can be fully charged in a day through the power generated by the solar now the second: what is your plan to run from the battery so that it can deliver the sufficient power.
Lead-Acid based deep cycle batteries are best for small scale solar projects. These batteries are rated in Amps-Hour which means it can produce X amount of current for one hour. Also if you can deliver X amount of current to it, then the battery will be fully charged in one hour. If you provide half of X Amps then it will take 2 hours of time to be fully charged. So a battery between 15 - 20 AH should be fine based on the above calculation
Now see what can we run from the battery:
If you have a table fan which consumes 60W, then it needs I = W/V = 5Amps from the 12V battery and then it can be run for 20AH/5A = 4 hours.
Similarly, if you have a LED string light which consumes 24W, then with this battery you can run it for 10H.
Now you may think: Should I consider a battery more than 12V, the answer is NO. Don’t go beyond 12V as that is the given ideal voltage rating of the charger is fixed on 12V.
If you go beyond that it might damage the charger or the battery. You can increase number of batteries and number of solar panels in parallel to increase more capacity.

The charge controller is meant for deep cycle lead acid batteries. Will it work for other technologies such as Li-ion and LiFePO?

I dont think the charger is designed for Li-ion and LiFePO..

Can you run it with just the generator and no battery? To power up or charge things?

Thanks. I never tried, but technically you can use it during the daytime using a dc to dc inverter

Needle nose pliers to tighten a nut? Your basics are good, your installation scares me. Your wires WILL short out and possibly burn your gazebo to the ground. 1.All wire connections, grounds included, should be lugged or wire nutted. 2.One hole clamps work very good at holding your conduit pipe in place without cutting the wire insulation as your screws will. 3.PROPER TOOLS 4.Install wires lugged and greased for them to last more than a month or so on the battery. The grease should be at least Vaseline and preferably NO-CO. 4. Insure all electronics are out of rain reach. Your Coleman charger if left where you show it is history. Good luck.
