    I just mounted 6 - 300 watt panels onto a A- frame I built on our property for the Travel trailer we are living in while I build the cabin ....lots of work but worth it . thanks for the video ....I have that same set up you did on my truck camper for the last 11 years and it works great ....happy trails !

      Now that is a solar setup! Congrats on building your cabin, that is badass man! You've probably seen Wild Wonderful Off-Grid on TH-cam, right? If not, check their channel out! Good to hear that setup lasted 11 years! Hope all is well!

    Hi Brian! Even though I've seen install videos before, I still love watching them as I anticipate my first panel in the future. Thanks for sharing buddy! Happy Spring and Happy camping!

    Great video Brian, thank you for the info . Just a hint ! Whenever I use caulking I wet my finger tip when I want to smooth out the bead, caulk doesn't stick very well to saliva .. Thanks, John

      Thanks John! Glad to share the info. Good tip! Ironically, I've never done that and this will be my 15th year in the painting business, lol! I'm going to give it a try next time I use caulking :)

    Great video. THank you!! I just wanted to triple check that I understand. You've wired the charge controller's "battery side" (power going TO the batteries) directly to the DC panel, right? I've not seen this before, and have only seen people wiring directly to battery terminals. I like your method much better, but wanted to make sure I have understood it correctly. Thanks!

      You're welcome Mike! Yes, that is correct. The only addition I ended up making was I put a fuse on the positive wire from the charge controller to the DC panel. I'm actually getting ready to do the same thing on our camper with a 200 watt setup. Thanks for watching and good luck on the install!

    Great vid, I have installed several panels on several rv's I've owned. My new fifth wheel will need the cables routed the same way to get to my breaker box, gave me some great ideas. I had the same passport ultra lite a mine was a 2014, have you had roof issues? Live in Az the summer had my roof start to bubble, have you had a issue? I also had the caulk separate and water ruin the front fascia. Keystone's customer service is zero. But to beat the weight they sure cut corners.

      Thank you, I'm glad the video helped you out! That camper is actually my Mother In Law's but I work on it all the time. I have not noticed any roof issues or bubbling yet (knock on wood!). I hope their camper doesn't have the same fate as yours. I've heard similar things from others about Keystone's customer service and quality. They have lucked out so far and we have too. We have a 2010 Keystone Hideout 27BWE, it's been a great camper so far with no issues. Good luck with your solar project and thanks for watching!

    Don’t you have to install a battery switch and a shunt or fuse? Also, 200 watt panels are easy to find now and cost about the same as a 100 watt panel. Very nice installation. Are you powering all of your ac in the camper, or just certain circuits?

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah......I pulled this video from the Colorado Camperman archives. So it is actually footage from a few years ago, lol! That was when I was on my hiatus from the channel. I thought the footage was still good so I wanted to post it.
      It's funny, at the time this setup was probably $250 on Amazon. It's now $158. And you're right, a 200 watt setup is not much more. Just two years ago, it was like an extra $125-$175 for another panel! I also installed it to how I had researched it at the time. When I installed it, nothing was mentioned about needing a shunt or fuse. Maybe that has changed now?!? I dunno, everything seems to be working fine. Lol
      As for the power, the solar panel charges my Mother-In Laws batteries. So anything that is run on DC is essentially running off the solar. We did not hook it up to the AC system. I installed that power inverter so if they want to charge their cell phones or run a small fan/appliance, they could. They have little power needs so that is also another reason for the small setup. I they need more power when boondocking, they just run the inverter generator. Thanks for watching!

    I cannot access the refridgerator compartment from outside my RV like you can. So I am guessing this method of connecting to the electrical panel will be too difficult. Do you agree?

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could drill through the roof, I avoided doing that by going through the fridge vent. You can get plugs for the roof that will feed wires down. Then use dicor around that. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    How do you know that you caught the wood studs to mount the panel rigidly so it won't fly off on the road?

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did the ole knock test to find the studs. I tried my stud finder, but it's a POS. Thanks for watching!

    If I install a 100watt solar panel on my hybrid can I run AC off my battery or an inverter? Or do I need a converter? Can this be done to be have lights, plugs and AC off grid and use propane for fridge and cooking?

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you would need a much larger system to run your air conditioner. If you go to Renogy's site, they have a solar calculator that tells you how big of a system you will need based on what you are operating. Here's that link: www.renogy.com/learn/calculator/

    Nice job Brian. What was the install time, and how many trips up and down that ladder...lol I am sure you got a good work out!

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Kevin! Install time was around 3-3.5hrs. It really wasn't that bad. If I wasn't filming, I probably could have gotten it done in half the time. Lol, definitely a good amount of trips up and down that ladder! Luckily I'm use to ladder work, that's how I stay lean!

    Wow. I was looking at this video because I'm getting a motorhome and jeez I'm lost. I saw someone selling 3 100w panels on Craigslist for $220 so I thought I'd check out vids. Think I'll wait or is that a good pricem

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That isn't really a smoking deal. You can buy panels on Amazon for about that price. I just installed a 200 watt system from Amazon. It came with 2-100watt panels, a charge controller, all the wires, and mounting brackets. It was around $220. Here's a link to that video and also where I bought the panels on Amazon. 200 Watt Kit: amzn.to/36gow8i Install Video: th-cam.com/video/v_omW_iK9NQ/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching!

    I have a similar panel. It also has 2 unlabeled black wires coming from it. How do you know which is negative and positive?

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you hook up a multi-meter to the connections on the solar panel, the multi-meter will read either - or +. If it reads positive, you have correctly hooked up the + to the + & - to the - on the multi-meter. If it shows -, you have not. Hopefully that made sense, thanks for watching!
