    would be a good idea to show the battery hookup

    Hi
    More information for your readers. I have a lithium battery and did not know if Colman controller would work, so i emailed Colman in regard to the controller. They replied," Lithium batterie save a more complicated charging parameter and so we always advise purchasing a solar charge controller that has a lithium setting. Sunforce at this point does not offer such a controller. Sunforce makes the Colman controller

    Hi- I am thinking of getting a Colman 40 watt and the controller comes with it and i have a Lithium battery. I asked the Managment of Canadian Tire if controller would work with LITHIUM AND HE SAID NO, and other people have said yes. I am confused any suggestion or advise. Thanks

      I can ask someone who builds lithium battery packs later this morning. I can say it will definitely charge the batteries, but leaving the controller on the battery 24/7 without using the battery might be the issue… that is what I’ll verify.

      You can do short term charge if you know the battery needs charging and disconnect when charged, otherwise you need to get a controller designed for lithium batteries for regular use or you will probably ruin them..

    Can i use this solar panel in combination with the coleman 8.5amp charge controller to charge a Lipo battery (Anker powerbank 522)?

      If the charge controller does not indicate its for a lithium battery then in theory u should not use it long term... personally for me if the battery is being used or under a load, or to top it up I'd do it.. but again it's probably not recommended.

    What would really show the difference is how long it would take to fully charge a deep cycle battery which is drained so it will not run your electric Trolling motor......using the same battery and the same motor to drain it

    • @kd_enterprise3404
      @kd_enterprise3404  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it would be a good test.. what I can say if you were to run this small panel while out fishing it would significantly increase run time.. especially if you only run the motor on off just to get into position… and a few hours in good sun would really help

    So, I see you run the 100 watt panel into the 40 watt controller. No worries. I just picked up two of the 40 w and Im wondering if I can run two 40 w off the one controller for ease of install and having a spare. The 100 amp has an 8.5 w controller versus the 7 amp and, since its 2.3 amp under perfect conditions , why the higher numbers? Even the 100 w Noma only puts out 5.5a but has a 8.5a controller. Are they that crappy at Crappy Tire?
    "Maximum power output: 40 watts and 2.3 Amps under ideal conditions
    7 amp charge controller protects the 12 volt battery from overcharging"

      The controller should handle it fine, I know someone who runs 100 watt panel on the smaller controller... as long as you hook the panels correctly.... I’ve not done this method personally so I can’t confirm how it will work. The nice thing if you run each separately is in the morning one panel can face south east and the other south west independent of each other... I’ve had no issue with overcharging....

      To use both 40 and one controller you need the parallel hub they sell. It can take up to 4 or six panels I think (all must be same wattage ) BUT your controller can only handle 3 x 40 watt panels before it will exceed that 7 amp max. I would buy a good 30 amp or more controller if setting up a decent system. Bought the Colman kit with 2 40 watt solar panels and found out you need the hub after reading the directions which also list all the restrictions it has .

    Is your panels, hooked up in series, or parallel.
    How many batteries
    What is your inverter wattage
    Is your system on fuse, and breakers.

      This is very basic, each panel has a controller. I'm only charging one 12v battery and using an 1500w inverter to charge all my devices.. its capable of opening my garage door.. making coffee, or running a small sump pump etc. basically I can run a few things to make life easier when the grid goes down....

      The size of your battery bank is extremely important if you want power to run the inverter for longer times...think electric forklift battery pack that should do it.

    • @George196207
      @George196207 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the Colman 40 watt kit that comes with two panels it has to be in parallel for the controller , they sell a hub that makes it easy to plug in a few panels ,all of the same size . Just if you go past 3 you need a better controller they sell . Starts to cost buying a cheap kit lol

    • @kd_enterprise3404
      @kd_enterprise3404  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only if they are 12 volts from my understanding, but you should charge a 12v battery with an inverter attached and use the proper charger for it.

    How much does a 100 watt solar panel cost

    • @kd_enterprise3404
      @kd_enterprise3404  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Canada for the Coleman panel it's an absurd price of 529.00... lol.. don't ever pay that! They are on sale all the time and can probably get for 200.00 even at that they are pricey.. but convenient for small projects or for an RV as they come with the wiring and controller..

      Just returned from Sam's Club in the US. Coleman 100 Watt solar panel with 8.5 amp charge controller included in the box: $139.98 (8/29/2018)

      sdrawkcabgnipytmi well it’s pretty much everything,, almost every automotive part is double the price in Canada. “Beverages” range from twice and often 4x the price” many reasons for this hidden import fees and hidden taxes etc..

    What kind of battery do you use with this setup?

    • @kd_enterprise3404
      @kd_enterprise3404  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bertandernies4rent I’m using a deep cycle agm type battery. If you only require occasional use a normal car battery will be ok.. I use mine often in the summer charging electric yard equipment and stuff, also handy if the power goes out, you can run a kettle if you have say a 1500 watt inverter or a sump pump if you have at least a 3000 watt inverter.

    I think that those charge controllers will harm batteries over long periods of time. More damage to AGM than Flooded.

    • @kd_enterprise3404
      @kd_enterprise3404  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have some concerns also, I actually am now running 3 panels and 3 controllers on the same battery.. basically when you use the battery a lot, the controllers are on and off constantly.. but if not used for a few days the controllers don't cycle much. I'm pretty happy with it, depending on your needs, great for an RV, however I'd consider a 1500 watt inverter rather than the 1000w.. The 1000 can handle my coffee maker but wont handle a tea kettle. if you only charge small things or even to run a small tv you only need a 400w inverter. Sorry, started babbling..

      I have the coleman 30amp controller. It doesn't cycle like the others do. It charges to 14.? Volts then goes to float stage and maintains about 13.? volts. I was concerned about the cycling the smaller controllers was doing so I bought the better one. Plus it gives you volt or amp reading.

    • @kd_enterprise3404
      @kd_enterprise3404  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, the larger controller with the 100 watt panel takes care of battery from late a.m. to mid afternoon. The other 2 controllers are hooked up to separate panels, one that gets early morning sun and the other is late afternoon… works like a charm when I utilize early morning or late afternoon… have a good day… ps, when the yellow light is on full it’s pushing power into battery…
