I make my own trotlines also but have used the Walmart ones before too. I don't use the cheap hooks. Eagle Claw makes a circle hook with an oversize eye for trotline use that I've had good results with. I think it's model number is L198G. I order them from Memphis Net & Twine. Size 4/0 catches the size fish I like to eat.
I put that one in and several others from another lake. They are all still kicking. I have a lot of bluegill for them to eat and I am about to order some Golden Shiners too. They have plenty to eat.
gd otters ate every fish out of my 2.25 acre pond years ago and I couldn't do a damn thing about it due to Indiana DNR regulations. For a few years after that ordeal I trapped them successfully and with enthusiasm in other parts of the country as there was no season on them in Indiana....
I was successful in getting rid of mine too. At least for now, they are gone. They were very bad for a while. They can devestate your fish population quickly.
Reminder of when my dad and I used to set trot lines 👍
My. Kind of fishing. You are great ! Love it !

Thanks for the tip. I haven't heard of Memphis Net & Twine. I will look them up.
I can’t believe you threw those back
You not very hungry throwing them fish back. Mr. Nice guy. I'm hungry
How is the big one doing in your pond? We like fishing the river for sport, but don’t keep any. I may try to transplant some to my pond.

And thats why I use the number 7 size hook does big fish are not going any where but in my boat.
You can stop them otters budy an you no what i mean.
Haha I did
Caught and ate 58lbs out of a river and was great
But if caught from a pond would be differebt
And now, that cat single handedly eats ANYTHING under 4 pounds, of any species, in that pond.
Once every 4 days or so.

How long do you leave your lines out before checking them again?
Baited in the late afternoon and checked them at first light. So all night.
Haven't done this in a long time
Transplanting fish in the hot months of the summer is hard because the fish are stressed by the heat
Surprisingly, it made it. It is still in the pond alive and well.
One over 34”
Thanks
@@midsouthoutdoors7321 absolutely. Keep up the great videos. Wished I lived closer to the Mississippi. I’d like to fish it.
If you’re gonna have a TH-cam channel, get a scale
cheap hooks, lost fish!
Yep.
