2:13 - Yes, for sure, and this kind of "Well, go adventure, have fun" kind of thing worked so well on the Game Boy! I'd sit there puzzling away as a little kid for hours, maybe solve something, maybe not, and even though you could speedrun this thing in no time now, it was such an epic, great (headache-inducing) experience back in the day. It was the kind of game where you'd get stumped on something, you'd put it away, pick it back up, think outside the box, and suddenly you'd get it.

This reliance on nostalgia in cinema and television is becoming tedious. I'd have hoped that the newer generations would have been brave enough to blaze their own trails by now with their own originality and creativity but apperantly not. I love the original film but this new series had to shoehorn LGBT themes into it and of course take a pot shot at Trump like the new Trek series. Rehashing and trotting out old pop culture and tacking your angst to it is not being creative. Like my old art teacher, the crusty Nam verteran, used to say when he saw work that was a halfhearted effort, _"Blech!"_

Links Awakening was the 1st Zelda game I've ever played. Second overall. They did an amazing job with the transition. I turned the game on, watched the "classical" style animation, and started the game. When Link wakes up and the 1st tones for the village music started to play i began to cry. It took me right back to when i was a kid again.

Link's Awakening was the first game I ever played. My dad gave me his original Gameboy when I was a kid and his entire collection of games and I remember falling in love with it. the only issue was that I was a pretty young kid and I had trouble completing some of the dungeons because I just didn't know what to do. When this happened, I would go to my dad and ask for him to finish it for me, so we would sit and finish the dungeon together. Now, I'm 27, and I cannot wait to get this game, sit down with my dad, and do it all over again. This game is what made me fall in love with the franchise and just video games in general. It also gave me some of my best childhood memories. I can't wait to play the remake and I cannot recommend this game enough for those who never played the original.

This game introduced me to the Gameboy pocket and it's one of those titles that fueled my love for videogames. Grezzo did a fantastic job bringing this game to the modern era while staying faithful to the original, and while it's hard not to look at Link's Awakening through nostalgia glasses for those that experienced it in the 90's Link's Awakening is a must for any Zelda lovers and Switch owners alike.
This title takes you back in a time when developers had to work around major hardware limitations and the amount of content packed in this world is truly impressive.

the original on Gameboy was an incredible experience. I was pretty young when I first played it. Going on the quest after getting the Yoshi doll from the crane game was epic. First Zelda game I ever beat. I really wanna play this remake as it's clearly so faithful to the original. It even looks like it added some extra stuff. I don't remember picking up apples from trees anyway.
I watched a small documentary on youtube about the making of Link's Awakening. The team had a really fun time making the game. I think it really shows through in the gameplay.

awww Jeremy... it’s wonderful to see you genuinely happy! i remember back when i was a Collider fan (before the Last Jedi showed me they were all fake corporate sell outs) and you joined the team and i really liked you... but i could tell the politics, egos and programing there were effecting your pure joyous spirit... i’m so proud you listened to your heart, and in spite of the business opportunities in LA... decided to move back and become your own boss again. your happiness and choices in life are an inspiration and infectious! :) i’m a big Zelda fan who never played Awakening before... and you got me so pumped up for this! thanks for the spirited authentic review! and keep your soul burning brightly my dear! xo

Disney’s The Last Jedi was awful but instead of being honest about it they all showed what pathetic suck ups they are... i felt like i lost a bunch friends... i’m so glad Jeremy left and kept his soul!

Also, I was literally in that bird dungeon last night and my husband was/is stuck there in his game. So I was so tempted to look it up but instead I just kept trying and when I finally figured it out it was sooo worth it! It definitely makes the game better to figure things out on your own. Sometimes putting it away for a few and coming back with fresh eyes helps too.😊

Jeremy! Nice review! & I must agree with you! I’m somewhere in the middle / 3/4 of Awakening & it’s glorious! I never played/owned the original/a game boy, had a Sega Genesis & my childhood next door neighbors had a SNES so missed the whole gba / portable games thing until upgrading to my ‘Sega Genesis Nomad! in ‘97...’98? (Idk, whenever it released) -Sega beat everyone to the first portable handheld console that could connect to a tv -it was awesome! Anyway, keep up the good work, &... didn’t you do a little misty-eyed review of ‘The Last Guardian’? Would love to see you share a full, proper review of that masterpiece!

I completely agree with your review. Perfect old school Zelda that you can't put down. I also beat the game already, but I still need to finish collecting seashells and heart pieces and definitely plan to play again soon since I found out about the extended ending if you beat the game with zero deaths. I must admit, I had to youtube what to do with the damn ball.

Links Awakening was the first Zelda game, therefore my favourite 2D Zelda game, I played. I never beat it when i was a kid in the 90's. it wasn't until they released the DX version for early adopters of the nintendo 3DS that i beat it in prep for ocarina of time. I cant wait to get my hands on this new and stylized version of the game

I’ll admit, this being my first time playing through this game after missing out on it when it was on Gameboy, I had to TH-cam a puzzle or two because I spent 2 hours trying to figure it out. My older age does not allow much patience nowadays and 2 hours was really pushing it. Some of those puzzles are kinda obscure, it’s a wonder people figured things out when they did.

And just yesterday, I bought the Switch version, and I STILL have my original and DX versions.

I played Twilight Princess 4 times and played Skyward sword so many times I ran through it on regular mode in 25 hours. This new Awakening is bringing that old school Zelda exitment feeling back to me.
