Nice! I've got a '96 M20J we are looking at adding dual gi275 in. It should give us gpss with our legacy KAP 150 autopilot. Should pretty much fly itself at that point!
Lovely old Mooney! Great content man. Not too much blaring music! 😆 PS. you not got an autoipilot on your shopping list? Would make long trips like that a real breeze and less straining.
Thanks for the great feedback. I’m trying to get better at editing, filming, etc. It doesn’t come easy to me. I wish I did have an autopilot, but I fly with one in the Air Force during the week so not a huge deal for me. It all comes down to money. I would do paint next over an autopilot, if that makes sense.
@@FlyWithAlexMora - Sure, totally makes sense. If an aircraft's mission is more about recreation and the joy of flying, it's perfectly sensible that an AP may not be high on the list. Look forward to seeing more of this nice bird on your channel.
You're thinking the right way. The first thing I got was a JPI 700. I wanted to know what my engine was doing. Looks like you are ready for the GFC 500. I flew my E for 1200 hours without a autopilot but they are really nice! Especially now with the digital ones.
@@alechendryx7023 I gotcha. I took a pic this last weekend when i flew the Mooney. Find me on IG and message me. I’ll PM you the pic. IG: flywithalexmora
Hey brother. So I did briefly look into the G3X option but it would have been way more complicated for the install. It would have required more fabrication to support the screen behind the panel. Additionally, I was told it would require a backup AI. The price would have gone up way more. I have everything the g3x has with these gi-275s plus the redundancy. Plus in a small panel like the Mooney’s the gi-275s are the perfect size for my eyes. They may not look like in a picture or video, but it is. If you are in TX or NM I can def bring you on a flight so you can see for yourself.
@@alechendryx7023 hahaha I know. I’m looking at buying a new comm 2. But can’t decide yet which one. I’ll be at Oshkosh checking out what is available.
It would have been more money for sure. I considered it. It would also require a backup ADI. In this present setup, the dedicated HSI is also a backup ADI. I also don’t feel like these are small at all, maybe in the video they seem that way, but the fidelity you get from them is really good.
@@FlyWithAlexMora thanks for the perspective on it. fwiw (im just a random person who likes your vids) i really like the smaller round displays because they have a more vintage look to them than the big glass. the big glass is def cool tho
@@mcdeez2722 thanks for watching and commenting! Big screens are great for sure. I do fly with big screens throughout the week at my job, but you know these ‘smaller’ screens do have everything plus more than other big screen setups in some cases.
Good eye. It’s one of the very few small squawks that I still have to figure out. I asked the Garmin engineers at OSH23 and they said it’s likely a configuration issue. I have to keep investigating.
Thanks brother. You are right I need to add one camera to the yolk facing the panel for a more close up view of the what the instruments are saying. I’ll look into this, but I do see other folks giving that point of view and it adds some good content. On a slightly different note, I usually have two outside cameras, but on a 1,000 nm flight like this one I don’t normally connect the cameras outside because of the limited battery life.
Affirm. It felt really weird getting pushed out of the way. Especially because I was an IFR departure as well. They could just give me an initial heading. 🧐
@@RyanMcGuire300 true but in a piston they won’t give me a DP. They give me vectors around other traffic and eventually on course, especially within a Bravo.
Good job of talking through what is happening.
Thanks. I finally got the chance to install the new circuit breaker placards. The panel looks great now.
Love the new displays. They look bigger than what i thought.
They really are amazing gauges. So much info!

I see you have a vertical card compass. Can u send me pictures of how it’s mounted to the bar, please? Did you have to drill holes in the bar?
It’s not technically a vertical compass like the PAI-700 but it’s still mounted on the bar. I’ll see if I can take a picture to show you.

I use my GNS 530W as my fuel timer.
Every 30 minutes I get a flashing yellow message reminding me to check my fuel situation.
