  • Cultural differences and differences in handling things are fascinating. There are certainly many differences between Germany and the Philippines, and some of them are quite obvious: the weather, the landscape etc.
    Others are less obvious and less known. As a German who lives in the Philippines, I experience such differences every day, and I invite you to join me by watching this video!
    And meanwhile I made a sequel: Five more stunning differences between Germany and the Philippines you can watch here: • More SURPRISING German...

    Hello everybody, thanks for watching my video. Please, before making a comment, make sure you have really watched the video and listened to what I'm saying. This video is not about complaining, and I am not annoyed by the things I mention. Some people from the Philippines seem to misunderstand this. It's just a comparison, not a judgment. If I had to judge by only these 5 topics, the Philippines would win. When I bring in more topics in future videos, the Philippines will probably win big time. Check out my reactions on your comments, and especially part 3: th-cam.com/video/7a_jy41zjRE/w-d-xo.html

    Very enjoyable video, you have selected 5 important but not obvious differences. About the dogs, one of my theories is that the strays have never been trained not to bark, whereas in Germany where most are pets, owners will train their dogs when it is appropriate to bark and when not. I live 6 months a year in the Philippines, enjoy it very much and while I am Canadian, my roots are German. There are many things I like about Germany, but I appreciate your comments that perhaps Germany is changing and not always in a positive way.

      @docinthephilippines  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Thank you, but actually I didn't mention anything about being annoyed. I don't know why I get comments repeatedly that suggest I'm annoyed or complaining or not accepting. I mentioned 5 interesting differences between two countries, of which at least 2 I like a lot better here in the Philippines and 2 others are absolutely neutral. I learned that some Filipinos are quite sensitive and take such a comparison as criticism. Nobody proved me wrong, though. I wish I could help Germans and Filipinos to learn from each other, so I'll keep making more of this in the future. One thing that can be learned from Germans is, that we never accept standstill. "It has always been like that"? "It must be accepted"? "It can't be changed"? That's not our attitude! We have a drive for perfection, which is our biggest strength and biggest weakness at the same time. It made us great and it put us to the ground. Maybe some Filipino attitude should be mixed with ours - and vice versa!

    Because I'm from Alaminos Pangasinan, you're among the Pangasinense so here new subs! Hope to see more interesting videos you make.
    Edit: the real issue about the dogs is that many are just let go around and who knows how often they cause accidents but then the bigger issue are the impounds. They take dogs or cats but the way they collect them are in one places that they literally bleed inside since they're killing each other and when they reach the offices, they're not treated and fed properly like it's much better for them staying in the streets than get caught. In Pangasinan, this is a very big issue people aren't talking about since we're just busy to make ends meet.
    And the barking, true I agree with you, that's actually a big issue reflecting the owner's irresponsibility--but hey, most dogs weren't really bought because they really like dogs, they just bought or got them because their friends asked them. This too I hope someday will get tackled

      The question would be why that is so. Probably the main reason is that Americans go where there already are Americans. Same with people from Australia or Britain or Germany. They want to leave their country, but they still want something familiar around. Filipinos do the same, by the way, when they are abroad, even in a more extreme way. I have meanwhile heard of a few Germans near our place, but in 6 months I still haven't met one, and that's fine with me. I'm not avoiding them, but I'm not looking for them either.

    Very loud music from the nearby BeerHaus beyond midnight is intolerable. Philippine government can pass a law that loud music beyond 10:00pm be banned.

    • @docinthephilippines
      @docinthephilippines  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Loud music here in the street comes from privat parties and official fiestas/festivals (yesterday there was a big rock/pop concert, I will make a short video, the very loud music went on until midnight, and after midnight even louder fireworks). To tell you the truth: one the one hand it can be annoying, but on the other hand it's nice to see the town is alive. I don't see any complaints from other people in the neighborhood, but I'm not sure about that. In Germany the police would be on constant duty, but that's one reason why in Germany at night most cities are more or less dead. Partying take place inside, only rarely outside, which is of course also due to the weather. So this is a double-edged sword.

The question is always whether we really want to close our eyes and live with what's not great, or try to improve it. Not by complaining, but by doing something. Some things could be improved easily, but it's up to the people of the Philippines to improve theirs, and Germans have to improve their own. I have kinda given up on Germany, though. Maybe I can convince them that Pangasinan should be given a try.... It has beaches, it's on Luzon (which has some logistic advantages), it's pretty close to Baguio.... but it's widely unknown.

      I heard that. No idea why they all tend to go to the same places and be amongst themselves again... I guess I'm fine with only few foreigners here in Pangasinan 🙂

      Thanks for the friendly reminder! I probably made the right decision then to come here 😀 Actually many Filipinos, especially OFW, think it's crazy to move here and better stay in Germany.... I guess I'm just a crazy guy - the adventure continues 😎

    PH is not the ideal country for foreigners to settle foreigners in PH have very restricted rights can't own properties & can only own 40% of any PH business foreigners obtain PH citizenship if born & raised in PH which is not the case of expat newcomers PH is heaven on earth for rich Filipinos only

      I'm married to a Filipina, I don't need to own property. But what you write is probably true for many expats, and the Philippines are not top of the list. I will make a video some time soon (within the next one or two months probably) in which I will explain why I decided to come and settle here with my wife by leaving my home country Germany. Even if the Philippines may not be ideal (but what country is?), there are some very good reasons to prefer it to Germany. At least on my opinion, and I know I'm not the only one.

      @@josepanicucci8591 For me the Philippines just make more sense, for obvious reasons. My wife is from here, we are connected, I get along with English and there's no rush to learn another language. But that's different for everyone. That's why I only describe what I observe. I make no recommendations to expats.

    "They come here to Germany to get a better life" I hate to hear this from you Germans. In other country there is also a better better life like in the Philippines. Why are you there in the Philippines if in Germany you will have a better life.Nicht nur in Deutschland gibt's ein besseres Leben.

      Who said "only in Germany"? Not me. And where exactly am I wrong? They are not coming to have a better life? I went to the Philippines to have a better life. But guess what, there's other countries I could have gone to. So what is your point?
