Almost sounds like the Louisville and Nashville Crosby 3-chime put on Southern Pacific #2353. It was used on the Feather River Shay #3 (even though the Shay originally had a 5-chime and all logging engines used Powell, Baldwin flat top, 1-chime or a 5-chime whistle) for a while until 1997 when it was put on #2353, but then when the Shay went to WV, the whistle was still used on #2353. #2353 wore a SP 5-chime for a while in 1996 and then had the 3-chime put on her in 1997. Also, I believe Feather River Shortline #8 was given a Louisville and Nashville or possibly a homemade 3-chime as her second whistle while at Feather River Railroad in the late 60's after L&N retired their steamers.
