The arch for the front curtain doesn't block the light at the top. You need another board on top of that straight board and *ARCH* it. So it does work.
You did a great job on the sides though.

I love this build. I would pay you to do mine. 🤩 😜 I'm trying to figure out how to make mine into a 2 person camper van. I would go a little narrower on the bed to make a little more room for food only because we can't have gluten and dairy. So bringing foods we can eat is a must. But I pack a lot of dry alternatives too. Saving your video. I'm going to see if my father in law will help with the build. He does a lot of carpentry.

This is EXACTLY what I want for my sienna. I just can’t figure out how to align the cabinetry and hook bar. 😬. You do AWESOME! Questions...
1)how did you level your floor and what’s on it?
    2) where’s your clean cloths?
    3) do you have anything for midnight bathroom needs?
    Very very cool

    • @TheVanThatGotAway
      @TheVanThatGotAway  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Aw, thanks Jo!
      1. For the floors, I just left them all wonky instead of trying to build out a level floor. We don't use that much of it anyway. I just put some of that thick clear plastic carpet protector down where we DO walk so we don't destroy the carpeting.
      2. Clean clothes are in the deep storage well where the 3rd row seats used to fold into. And believe me, there's not many clothes!
      3. For "emergencies" I have a clever toilet set up. I did a video for you just on that very subject, have a look! Thanks for asking.

I enjoyed your video and learned a few things. Love your ability to just turn it back into a minivan, nothing drilled or modified from the original condition of the van. Very interested in how you secured the arch using I think the two grab handles(?). Also loved your convertible couch design, and that table, omg.... such a dream to have in a minivan (I have the same van) and be able to actually sit up and be comfy at it. Thanks for posting!

The bed looks almost like a futon. Definitely nice build. Thanks for the cooler idea with the cups. I travel in my car & don't have alot of room but a small cooler would fit. I didn't even think about ice in plastic cups. And I'm only interested in keeping drinks cold or any leftover deli food. I buy my perishables every day & no more than 1 serving if I can avoid it. I've heard there's alot of extra room when stow n go's are out.

Then when you opened the back and I saw Eric’s bed design I really perked up because he is one of my favorite mega Minds when it comes to the van build - - I hope he sees this, and realize how much he inspires people. Love it. The only thing different for me is I'd have to put a larger cooler and bring more foods with me. So the cooler probably have to go in the back. Then I could maybe keep the small one up front for things we'd eat faster. My husband is celiac and allergic to milk. So convenient meat and cheeses are off the list. Thankfully some truck plazas carry fresh fruits and nuts and stuff like that. Eating out is tricky since he was diagnosed. We could get gluten free crackers or bread and use PB, jelly, tuna, ect. This bed is one of 2 designs I'm thinking of. I like the bench view out the back. Can't wait for your next video!

Hi Cathy, A larger cooler in the back was one of the options I toyed with, also. And I'm still thinking about removing the console in between the front seats to put a fridge there. Who knows? I really love all that you did to your Honda Odyssey!! Great job!!! Wish you could give me some ideas for my 2016 Honda Pilot. I've been camping in the Pilot for about a year. I also have a camper shuttle bus, but find myself using my Pilot for longer trips and last minute trips (whether overnight or several days.) I must say I enjoy being in my shuttle bus camper because every window opens and the airflow and extra space are amazing, but my Pilot is so "easy" to take off in - I hardly ever pay for a hotel room anymore, instead choosing to find a tenting campsite for $10-$20 and I can use their shower in the morning too. The only thing is.....I'd really like a few things built in for the Pilot, but haven't done so yet. I would like to take all the rear seats out, but am unsure if that will void a warranty or cause problems with the air bags. LOVE LOVE LOVE your bed, table, arch, and kitchen space!

Hi Leslie, your video popped up & I continually look at these van builds bc I think someday I’ll wake up knowing how to build sh*t but so far... I bought a 2019 Dodge GC & it’s just me to plan for. I am giving up my apt soon, putting loved things into storage & doing a no-build build using things I already have. I don’t want to spend money on plastics.
Kudos to you for being so handy. I would attempt a project but I don’t own tools or have an area to use so I’ll just subscribe & bookmark ur channel with the hope that someday I could do 1 or more of these builds myself. As u said, people modify their initial build all the time, I’ve heard that from most creators.
Bc I want the best storage, I would love to have those side cabinets that fit into your rear windows but I do have to consider that this van has the venting windows in the back so I would need to have a clear path for that air or be able to have the fan there. My next interest is having that arch but again, this van has a plastic column down the middle of the whole ceiling just to hold tablets for people’s viewing pleasure from the 2nd & 3rd row seats. I would need to scribe the wood around that but at least I have the door handles to strap to. Problem is, those handles are handy for me to use getting in & out sometimes. I have lots of room above my head in the driver’s seat so I would love to have a shelf built on the top so I’m thinking of the arch going to the bottom of that ceiling column & the shelf in 2 parts on either side, if u could imagine that. It would just be used to store the window covers & soft goods like towels, clothes, etc.
This is dependent on if I need those door handles but time will tell as I could just use a little step stool to make the big step into the van (only bc I’m 72 & have lost some abilities I used to have, lol). I am thinking of getting a running board installed like I had in my SUV to help me get in/out. Anyway, I’ve chatted enough, I’m going to binge ur other videos. Wishing you guys love, luck & health on your journey. I’m in NJ but have a feeling I’ll end up in FL near my sister in PSL eventually when I tire of my travels. Cheers, Mo in NJ.

We had a full size bed put in our Chrysler town and country years ago. We’ve travelled to Alaska and across the USA. But we don’t have a living space like you do. It get tiresome to sit up front all the time to read and eat. Also would you have enough room at night to have a small portapotty.? I’ve seen you video on your potty. I’m not sure if my wife of 51 years would use that. A couple of things we have that you might want to think about getting : Jackery power source. We have the 500, but I’d get the 1500 instead. Also we purchased from weather tech the window coverings. But we lost one and weather tech won’t replace only 1. Crappy customer service.

I think the ceiling storage is very clever. So is the archway to your cab area. That is a novel idea.
The bed is also very clever, as it is a seat from both sides. Smart idea.
I think you need a 12V fridge like Alpicool. The current cooler set up is makeshift. Your food is poor quality if you are eating processed meats and cheeses. Get fresh food, fresh meat, cook it up over a campfire with a fresh salad. You should not eat so many carbs and boxed foods.
You don't have a kitchen at all - no fridge, no stove. No bathroom toilet or shower set up. No power grid either. This is not a complete camper. This is a car with a bed and some shelves. A conversion is when you have food storage, power supply, bathroom facilities at the very least.
You switch between 'we', and 'I'. Did YOU build this yourself or some other person built it for you?
