    This is amazing! For someone on my way to being forced to live in a vehicle because my company shut down, this is how I want to live. I'm not a bum and don't want to live like one. If I have to live in a vehicle I want to do so with integrity and my head up. Thank you for sharing!

      I, although am lucky to have access 24/7 to amenities. Will be "full time" as my build sustains. Tis still cold here in Michigan. Disabled & limited income, s l o w l y I get my items. Power source I THOUGHT, I purchased off FB marketplace. Was a total scam got me for 300$. It sets me back a month. As a power source is the biggest cost & NEED. IM LOOKING forward to minimalism, to the extreme. Being in the last chapter of life. I just ordered a sticker for my rig. "ADVENTURE BEFORE DEMENTIA"🙃😁 Safe travels everyone

    2 WATER SAVING TIPS FOR YOU. 1. Get a spray bottle and fill it 1/3 shampoo and 2/3 water. You will eliminate having to pre wet yourself. Just spray your hair and body with the mix then use the water to rinse off soap. 2. Attach the kitchen sprayer that came with your shower kit or add one if it didn't. By cutting off the water flow in between lathering will save even more water rather than a continuous flow from the shower head attachment. Bonus tip: Make another bottle with blue Dawn dish soap. Same formula. Pre spray dishes and pans after cooking then rinse. Use it to degrease and clean everything else in the van as well. Great set-up Rob. I am planning out my 04' Sienna build and will probably copy yours. Take care.

      I have a not so fun fact about your tips. Shampoo and dishwashing liquid generates bacteria when mixed with water and not used immediately. 😊

    Great build I converted my Chrysler Pacifica minivan 16 months ago and have travelled up to 2 months in it but always looking for new ideas. I put screening across my van door windows and attached it with magnets on the outside as I like to feel a breeze flowing thru even though I also have a usb fan. I also have lots of storage under the floor where I removed my 2nd row seats and although I have a Jackery 1000 watt pro power station , I am also contemplating putting a 100 watt solar panel on roof as long as there is still room to carry my kayak so it was nice to see your set up.

    Very nice build for sure. I would do a van like this but no standing up is unfortunately a deal breaker for me. I would think about a 1.5 or 2 in lift and some good AT tires and you would be surprised where the van could go with front wheel drive.

    It's very cool, but one very important thing is that you must have a fan to exhaust air when you sleep. You should do more for your health

    I like your tips on van living. I have an idea to make a bedsheet frame. So you don't have to make your bed every night, because that kind of looks like it takes too long.
    So you make a few layer, hollow square, out of vinyl flooring, that has strips that outlines the perimeter of your bed. That's your bed sheet frame. You might have to have some joints in the middle, so you can fold it. You pre sew show some bed sheets, that hug that frame front and back. Basically like a big pillow case, and you put it over the frame. And maybe fold over top and on the back sheet you can put some velcro fasteners.
    When you wake up in the morning, you just fold it up into a few pieces, and store it somewhere. And reverse it and unfold it to make your bed at night. Maybe you could put snaps on the four corners, attached to bottom fitted sheet, to hold in place. To wash it, take it out of frame. A lot quicker than making the bed. Y'all feel free to steal my idea.

    • @Get__StuffDone
      @Get__StuffDone 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can't imagine this, I wish you could show us drawings to explain it better. ❤

    • @saratemp790
      @saratemp790 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Get__StuffDone okay I will try to explain it better.
      Cut a large square out of vinyl sheet flooring, the same size as your bed surface. Then cut out the middle of it. You only want the outside portion as a frame. It's basically a big vinyl frame. You cut out the middle, so that you don't have to lay on the vinyl, in the middle of it. You just want the outside as a frame, for structure.
      Then you're probably also going to have to make some kind of hinges in the middle of the frame, so that you can fold it.
      Then sew your bed sheets together, the same size as the vinyl frame. You're basically making like a big bedsheet pillow case.
      Then you slip the bed sheet pillowcase, over the vinyl frame. Like you're putting a pillowcase over a pillow. You can probably fasten and close it at the top with some Velcro.
      Then you put this bed sheet frame on top of your bed, to sleep. At night, you take it up, fold it in half, and maybe hide it behind the couch cushions. And then reverse that, take it out from the couch cushions unfold it, and lay it on the bed, to sleep.
      You might need to put some velcro at the corners of this bed sheet frame, to hold it in place.
      But I think this will be a lot faster than making the bed every day.

    I also have an Ecoflo Delta battery.. I have found that by using a 12v ,300watt full sine wave inverter you can charge the battery much faster than the 12v charge cord that came with the unit..I use a Bestek that cost me $40.. Great build..

    • @travelswithrob4970

      Yes, that sounds like a good idea. Ecoflow changed the firmware on my unit to limit alternator charging to 8 amps, but I’ve found that it really only charges at 6 amps even though the outlet is rated for 10 amps. It’s pretty slow, so your idea sounds faster

    Enjoyed the video, had watched the previous two some time back, I can think of three little tweeks that you could look into, 1) boiling the kettle for hot water for your shower set up ( if you haven't already), 2) trading that stove you've cooked on for a flat cp250 stove, much safer and less accident prone, and 3) hinges under your sink so that your extra work space simply folds out with a swing out under arm support, just some thoughts, happy trails, 👍🚙👌🇨🇮

    Suggest you try a micro fibre towel. They are full size but take up little space. Great for drying you when you realise a slightly different technique (pad don’t rub) is needed. And they themselves dry in a FRACTION of the time it takes a cotton or linen towel to dry. For camping I’ll never go back to a regular towel.

    Thank you for showing some of the "nuts and bolts" of minivan travel and daily chores. I just got a Sienna and I'm starting to plan my build. I'm more looking at a no-build build, and your setup is excellent. I don't have the tools to be able to do any woodworking. Do you of any resources where I could buy already made pieces that are similar to what you have built yourself?
    Also, I love your shirt! Hello from Holland, MIchigan!

    • @travelswithrob4970
      @travelswithrob4970  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your comments, I got the shirt in Petoskey (such a cool town!). Unfortunately, I don't know of any ready-made pieces similar to mine. Each van model is different in critical dimensions, so it's difficult to find off-the-shelf components that fit properly without wobbling. And for something like the convertible bed, I've only seen those as custom-made. Good luck with your project.

    I've always put my shampoo into my hair first Rob. And THEN wet it demand wash it!

    You are one smart guy. You could start your own conversion van company.

    I'm impressed with your build. I'd like to have seen your refridge and potty but I'm sure its somewhere on your videos.

      I describe the fridge starting at about 6:35 of the Chapter 2 video. I haven't discussed my bathroom system yet, but it's in two parts: for liquids I use a hospital-style bottle, and for solids I use my 5-gallon bucket double-lined with a plastic bag. Fortunately, the bucket is rarely used for that purpose!
