I think people view the wolves as invincible after they beat denver. Dont get me wrong they're amazing defensively but offensively can definitely be slowed down by an elite defense like the mavs. I think the 2022 series between the jazz and mavs is a pretty good example of how Dallas will try to defend rudy in the pnr. They often turned him into a playmaker where he has historically struggled. With that being said perhaps the wolves amazing defense will mask any issues they have on the other side of the floor. He is a one-on-one perimeter defender, that archetype is just not valuable enough to merit an all-nba first-team simply because isolation scoring just isn't a prevelant part of the game anymore. If anything I would say that Chet is a more valuable defender than him.

Exum, Powell, Lively, Green started a game this year against Minnesota starters and almost won. There was no Luka, no Kyrie, no Washington, no Jones, no Gafford. Mavs in 5 or 6 depending on if Mavs actually play Game 1 and not get blown out like they always do.

Finally someone else who agree's that the biggest X factor for the championship is Luka's health. A healthy Luka means you aren't getting to the finals in a short series, which will have a huge impact on the finals itself cause the celtics probably lose to a well rested wolves team. And they probably lose to a healthy Luka if the mavs do make it.

one thing to look for is luka guarding 1 on 1 KAT. He is one of the best post defenders we have and definetly the heavier body we can put on karl and if he can decently hold up against him then having pj on edwards and djj on conley or McDaniels would be CLUTCH since pj is a way matchup against Edwards than djj
The mavs defense is great, but the wolves defense is stellar and it’s statistically the best defense in the last 20 years. I’m excited how the series will play out

Wolves defense is stellar, but luka and kyrie can just out score anyone.
Luka did pretty well in switches against SGA and he is stronger than Ant, he should do ok. Clippers tried to target Luka, he defended well, they gave up on that. Luka also defended KAT pretty well in the post, he poked and got some steals.
They haven't faced a suffocating D in Wolves. Doesn't matter if they switch, all the Wolves defenders can play D.
Chet should've made 2nd team at least. The fact that no one from OKC (the 4th best defence) made an all nba defensive team is such a miss step when we got someone from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 17th & 22nd!!! This means OKC is the only team in the top 6 with no representation on the list, the difference in defensive rating between 2nd - 4th is only 0.4 meaning that OKC is functionally a top 2 defence in the league, really sucks that they snubbed them.
I personally pick Chet because he's probably the most impactful defender on the team but really I would've been fine with just any of Shai, Dort or Chet.
Chet's case is actually really clear because all the numbers this season suggest he has been a top 4 - 10 defender in the league:
- 190 blocks (2nd) (2.3 per game)
- 11.6 contested shots per game (3rd)
- 2nd lowest DFG% in the restricted area (min 225 FGA)
- 7th in Defensive win shares
- personal defensive rating of 108
- OKC went from 13th last season to 4th this season
- 93rd percentile in Defensive EPM
He was snubbed this year and I really don't see a case for most, if any of the guards there being over him.
Ring culture is so brain dead, you take away 75% of a player power to mold his legacy for something that is an organization achivement, people jumping on the fraud mvp ride for jokic when he was clearly the best player this series and stil is in the world.

@@aihsur Ant is one of the, if not the best leaders in the NBA. He was playing lockdown defence, especially in Game 7 and was able to impact the game greatly even when struggling to score the ball. He was a solid playmaker too. Ultimately, he led his team to the dub. Jokic was good but Ant has a genuine argument for being the best player of the series. Giannis is playing on a dysfunctional, old squad but was still putting up historic numbers and led them to the #3 seed in the East. I understand that it is the Eastern conference but that is still very impressive. Giannis and Ant are elite defenders, Jokic is just… okay.

This is gonna be such a great series, Luka is getting healthier and healthier. Luka and Kyrie’s defense isn’t being talked about enough paired with PJ, DJJ, and Gaff/Lively our defense is one of the best in the NBA. Ant talks a lot, Luka and Kyrie love that, it’s like pouring gas on a fire. I remember when we looked cooked against Phoenix and DBook started chirping like crazy, it turned Luka into a monster and then our whole team fed off it.

The problem with Denver is that instead of Bruce Brown and Jeff Green, they had Justin Holiday and Reggie Jackson. Their bench is thin, Malone doesn't trust the young players outside Braun. So the GM wanting to invest on youth to build a "dynasty" backfired big time, even more because the conference is getting tougher and tougher. In a few words, clearly the Nuggets ran out of gas, the GM got a bit ahead of himself while the Wolves were built to go against Denver.
My problem with the fraud talk is jokic played every god damn minutes of that game and did his best to keep them in it despite mpj and the bench went absolutely missing

Everyone forgot to mention that the only game when Luka and Kyrie faced the Wolf together this season, was 7 January with 35 points from Kyrie and 34 from Luka, Mavs victory 115 108 , Minnesota had the entire starter roster including Mcdaniels and Ant guarding or trying to guard Luka and Kyrie, and Livaly was out due to injury, Dwight Powell made a super game, and PJ and Gafford weren’t Mavs yet

It is also just one regular season and it was so early on in the season to where they were both completely different teams. Ultimately, it can still go either team’s way.

As much as the Nuggets did look human, I think people have to acknowledge that this Timberwolves team while an all time good defense, is literally BUILT to counter everything the Nuggets do well (well they do that to everyone but particularly the Nuggets). There are other good defenses that the Nuggets would still feast on. The nuggets are human, in the sense that if you build the perfect team to counter them they will lose. All credit to the Timberwolves, genuinely a suffocating defense.
We were also built to counter spread offenses like the Suns/Mavs

Denver losing to Minnesota is somewhat reminiscent to Dallas being swept against OKC in 2012. Of course, Denver are a much stronger side than that Dallas side, but they are both defending champions exhausted from their championship run and consecutive playoff runs, losing against up and coming teams with more energy and hunger going in to the respective series.
Hot take: Chet is on the same level defensively as Bam. Many people overrate Bam's perimeter skills, when in reality its still a negative for the team that Bam is on the perimeter, because it takes away their rim protector. In order to actually make a 1-5 defender you need absolutely all-time threat-recognisition and recovery speed like KG and Dray which Bam is not on that level. On the other hand Chet is quite underrated, he is by far the best defender on a top 3 defensive team and is an amazing rim-protector. I really dont get why he isnt talked about that much, I remember at the start of the season he was like second in DPOY-odds and he has only gotten better since then but noone really talks about him on the level of Bam and maybe even AD. Also idk if he qualified, but I would say that KP is a better defender than both Jrue and White.

The template for beating the Mavs will be similar as beating the Nuggets. Wear down their best player with unrelenting, unyielding defense. If the Mavs win, Luka will be exhausted.

If Dallas pushes the ball after rebounds/turnovers not allowing Wolves to setup their D, they will have even more success. The Wolves haven't seen Dallas's D. Also the Wolves will not have their way in the paint, like they did with the Nuggets tired bigs. Their will be a battle in the paint that favors Dallas. Gafford and Lively will have big games, if Maxi plays oh boy it opens up the paint for Ky and Luka. Maxi can heal another week, by game 5-7 he should be good.
I also don't see the Wolves stopping PJ or Jones to the basket, they play big, but are faster then the Wolves forwards.
Ky played in 1 of 4 games against the Wolves, Ant Man guarded him and Conley, Ky got 35 pts. Furthermore, they couldn't stop Luka, nor will they stop PJ. With Jones now starting, who will chase him around. Dallas has speed in every position but one, Luka. The Wolves have a serious match up issue in every position. They will have to double Luka and Ky, it's a matchup nightmare for them. Fouls will be key in this series, because Dallas has much more stamina and energy then the Nuggets and better rebounding/defense. Dallas can afford turnovers, the Wolves can not. Wolves only hope is Dallas misses a whole bunch of 3 balls, their only hope. Dallas is the most complete team the Wolves will face and it is a very bad time to face them. Coaching goes to Dallas and player intelligence.
The Dallas redounding/defense is awesome, if they break even or + the Wolves, Dallas in 5-6. Ky will kill them, he will teach Ant another lesson, ain't no one guarding him or Luka on the Wolves. Ant will get his, but the rest of the pups will be challenged and dogged the entire game. I can see the Wolves in foul trouble and turned into a jump shooters while the Mavs own the paint. Dallas bigs will wear the the Wolves bigs down.
