    I think homologation rules should be stricter. If you’re going to race a v8 rwd Camry, you have to sell a v8 rwd Camry

      @freewill51 6 ปีที่แล้ว +219

      Sad fact is it will not happen. Car companies today do not make those cars. So do you just want 43 Chevy Camaro's racing each other each week? You can't have every thing your way. Other companies can compete and spend their money. That is what racing is all about.

      Unless you copy British touring cars and go for hatchbacks and compact sedans, you will end up with a load of hybrids buzzing tediously around the track. You're better off with the spaceframe V8s.

      You can just drive on the highway if you wanna see that. I think Nascar has a bit of the same backwards mentality as hockey or the NFL where theyre always limiting horsepower, breaking up fights and restricting how you tackle people...ruining the fun! They should let them have as much horsepower as they want. The less rules, the more interesting it becomes to me....it makes it more about what you can come up with that gives you an advantage.

    New rules suck. They should bring back the homologation requirement. It would be much more interesting to me if Mustangs, Cameros, and Challengers/Chargers were out there duking it out. Require the full suite of safety equipment, and let the manufacturers bring the fastest car they can make. The brand wars used to be just as exciting as the drivers racing, that's what made NASCAR unique from most other racing.

    • @martinhubinette2254
      @martinhubinette2254 6 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      Que the manufacturers making aero cars, aka an front engined Aston Martin Valkyrie with a V8 that Americans won't buy because they don't like good cars.
      On a more realistic note they would probably use Corvette and Viper as a base (with different engines and mods) instead of the muscle/pony cars.

    • @usmcvet0313
      @usmcvet0313 6 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      @@martinhubinette2254 possibly, depends how high they set the homologation requirement. If they make it high enough it will keep all the exotics out. It just depends what they want to race. Maybe they could make a couple different classes with different homologation requirements, so in one class you have cars racing that the average guy could afford, in another the exotics go toe to toe on the oval.

    • @usmcvet0313
      @usmcvet0313 6 ปีที่แล้ว +82

      @DRAGEN RAID that isn't a Camero, or a Mustang. Those are purpose built race chassis, with purpose built race only engines, with a Camero/Mustang look-a-like skin laid over top. They have zero to do with actual production cars.

    • @martinhubinette2254
      @martinhubinette2254 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @DRAGEN RAID With the sedans gone it makes sense that they are going to use a mustang. They are already doing that in Australia with a "Mustang" for "V8 supercars" (despite the cult following the Ford sedans have "Down under").

    We need to go back to the days of "race on Sunday, sell on Monday". NASCAR today eliminates the differences between the cars. I mean, why have different manufacturers, if they're just going to be the same? The engineering behind the cars is half the excitement for me. Sure, add safety stuff, like 5-point harnesses, and rollcages, and stripped of luxuries, but there should be much more engineering freedom.

    • @DustinHasVideos
      @DustinHasVideos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Eric Jenkins they have been making the engines lower horsepower to lower costs. Also restrictor plates are only used in certain tracks where speed has been deemed too dangerous but on smaller tracks where you can’t go over 200 you can use the full power to help in restarts and leaving turns

    • @SoI_Badguy
      @SoI_Badguy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      Because low budget teams won't be able to compete. The reason Hendrick won like 5 seasons in a row was because the cars were like 950hp, and all of the lower budget teams kept blowing up their engines, AND they were still making less power.

    • @Stevelangdon93
      @Stevelangdon93 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Because by enforcing an engine "Spec" there's still huge room for improvement. As seen in the development race for the power units in F1, they all adhere to the same rules but the engines are far from equal. A restrictor plate is a surefire way to limit an engines output by limiting the air and fuel mixture, then the only variable is efficiency. If you were to enforce a BHP limit, teams could run huge amounts more torque as seen in the WRC. Add a torque limit too? you'd see the richer teams with far more desirable torque/HP curves.

    • @GP14Goat
      @GP14Goat 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Because restricting the power 1.) makes the cars better to drive 2.) makes the cars safer to drive and 3.) allows the engines and drivetrain components to last several races due to them being “overbuilt”. There were probably 7-8 blown engines all year in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2018. With 37-40 cars per race over 36 races, each team doing well over 13,000 miles of racing IN ADDITION TO countless miles of practice and qualifying, the reliability of new NASCAR engines is unprecedented in Motorsports history.

    • @AstralStriderZ
      @AstralStriderZ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Eric Jenkins My reasoning is that it's better to use 70-80% of the power of an engine that can make well over 1000 HP than using 100% of an engine that can make 700-ish horsepower. It's all about endurance.

The first Nascar race was actually in the Modified Division and was done right before Nascar Incorperated itself as a sort of "proof of concept" event to get as many smaller racing tracks and leagues to sign on to nascar as they could. The first Stock Car race was done after that.
    The modified Division was actually where the "bootlegger tech" comes from. That's the division where you had ambulance engines dropped into ford coupes to outrun the cops. Later in Nascar's life, the modified division was used as a sort of proving ground to see what should and shouldnt be allowed in stock cars.

      It’s a marketing thing. They want more attention on the more popular cars like in the 90s it was Monte Carlo, Ford Taurus and Pontiac grand prize. 2010s it was Chevy ss/impala, Ford Fusion and Toyota Camry. 2020 is mustang, camaro and Camry these were the big selling cars of those brands

      Think of it as a family and friend event, I'd say 90% of people only watch it in a group setting, they talk, eat, and drink, while the cars race in the background.

    • @romulas-cushmanproject3273

      WALTERBROADDUS then they need to do more of that, because the classic oval tracks where for racing at super fast speeds, not dealing with cornering, and hitting apex’s
      where now with these new rules coming next season they are lower the #hrsprs and the top speed, and increasing downforce,
      Sounds like they should are thinking of changing up the formula by eventually in a few years adding more twisty tracks instead of the basic ovals
      Or what they could do is for the tracks that they go to twice in a season have one be the basic oval shape, and the other make twisty tracks, because i know Daytona can be both,
      They shouldn’t go crazy on the amounts of turns, 8 or 10 tops don’t turn this into F1
