I’d pay to take my cards to an LGS to use their machine. Kinda like going to a bank that counts your loose coins so you don’t have to.

If it needs a live internet connection to check prices, it also means you're all telling a server at TCG, exactly what you have, how many, and who has what. That is being processed by a server, with a database. If they're smart the generated data will be very valuable.

Hello guys, I subscribed to your cannel about a month ago. Always at the top of my list. And just last week, I searched for a video that I had watched 18 months about sorting cards. I remember that it was a big help, and I wanted to go back and rewatch it. I was surprised to see that it was you Edwin that actually created that video. So thanks for your video. I was just getting back into Magic at that time, and I didn't really have deck sleeves. I followed your idvice, and found one I like and use the same sleeves for all my decks. It really saves me time.

We actually looked at this last week and discussed possibly using it. While I wouldn't run my Reserved List sets through it, it's a great way to sort 100,000's of cards. If you have the volume of cards to sort, consider it an alternative to payroll and staffing to sort all of it. Key will be once they open it up to other cards as well. It's definitely a sign of cool stuff to come as far as sorting goes.

    • @UnhingedMagi

I'm nervous about running really expensive cards through it too... maybe at some point we will get our hands on one and try it. But yeah I'll need to be REALLY confident about it before I run RL cards through it.

Expensive cards typically aren't mixed in with bulk, so you probably wouldn't need to feed them into the machine anyway.
On the other hand, if the machine happens to find an expensive card in bulk, that's great.

I've seen ads for this playing on MTG channels over the past few weeks. I'm curious how well it distinguishes different editions of cards? The TCG Player app has trouble with that, and you often have to manually override. Still, an awesome machine!

This will be a great way for mom n pop LGS to enter online retailing, that havent been able to afford additional labor to sort and store.
And like others have mentioned, offering a bulk sorting and storage service to customers on a short turn-around would be a great way to supplement bulk processing for resale. I imagine the average longtime mtg collector will have between 5k-10k cards so having it sorted by set, color, rarity would be easy. Offer the cardboard bulk storage boxes with a nice printed label and dividers, sleeve all rares and mythics, boom, easy $100 for a couple hours of work. In the extreme case with +100,000 cards, say they charge $1,000 but it gets processed in 3-5 days, everything is organized to your spec, and you won't ever have to touch it again. Much better value than a 1 year lease.
Once it can sort Pokemon, YGO, etc the value will rise exponentially. Ideally you would have this machine running constantly to maximize roi.
Leasing and then subleasing to friends is a great way to lose your deposit or be on the hook for repairs lol.

  • @seeweda

The idea behind this machine is for your local LGS to have one and then you bring in your collection and pay the LGS a fee to sort your cards. The problem is most Magic players don’t want to lug all their bulk unsorted boxes around or trust the employees at their local LGS not to steal cards.

    • @gourmethotdog

A machine like this as an offered service to store members could bring back in people, and the cost isn't as big to a large corporation. (And when GPs and Cons come back you guys could rent a booth and offer this service to people for a cost that's appropriate to time used, number of cards sorted etc. (AND obviously the cards ran through these machines are being counted, keeping track and the start of a global documentation of card count which can be valuable or profitable information)

This just seems like this will fit so few stores, they charge you an up charge if you go over a certain amount of cards so that puts a ding on large volume sellers like cardkingdom or tcg. Small sellers will not end up making enough more money to make this worth while. But I would not worry about it sorting power nine or extremely expensive cards into bulk because no one is going to put expensive cards through this machine

  • @ricardoblikman2676

Just a pricelist has no connection to a card so you need price lists with connections to the card and distinguish foil / non foil recognize damaged / heavy played cards etc. Dunno I do see it working perfectly for mass box opening on new sets but then how many new boxes would one need to crack a year to break even on $6.000 +- 120?

It would be nice to go to their website and see a map indicating where one of these is located. See if there is one fairly close to the house. Probably rent time on the machine at $20 an hour. If it rents for 2 hours a day at 20 days in the month that’s $800 return. LGS would recoup the cost and run their cards for free.

Surely looks interesting. I just wonder if it can tell tiny differences in editions, like 4th - 4th Alt - Rivals. Some cards are existing in all these three sets and come with the same artwork and a (c) 1995 line. But I guess that's details nobody other a collector cares about.
