I mean, Gumo is fun, but low fire chance (especially with IFHE, which is almost required) means that even with all those shells you're chucking you're not getting very many fires. And even with IFHE and being able to penetrate 37mm of armor her low individual damage per shell means against heavy cruisers and battleships she's going to barely tickle them. 33% of max damage of her HE is only maybe 400 damage. SAP is what makes Austin bonkers.
This ship is NOT low armored. It has 32mm armor, which makes it probably more tanky than a Hindenburg. And that's why people will have some nightmares against her.
just imagine, the gearing in his team would have done anything usefull for his team and would have smoked Flambas around the corner that he could have shot both montys and everything else there, guess Flamba would have scratched the 300k dmg mark there. Damn WG what you doing with your Game.....

For the average player, this doesn’t seem OP..with that HP, the average player is probably going to open up without any cover and go BOOM in the first few mins of the game..if I am seeing this in a Shima (which is not OP for sure) all I gotta do is keep him spotted..no need to even bother firing torps at the guy

Have they improved the loading times on World of Warships? Back when I was still playing, I'd regularly start games late because I had it installed on a traditional HD. Only moving it to an SSD let me start when the battle started. The Gearing may simply not have the SSD space.
Austin is strong no doubt, but she is a glass cannon without smoke. In random games you have to play so carefully. She also doesn't have the high shell arcs that the other US cruisers have, so she can't camp medium to high islands either. Watch what happens when a BB with 18inch guns or bigger hits it.
DPM of Austin with MBRB activated SAP: roughly 1500000 HE: roughly 1000000 + almost 60 fires per minute(with fire resistance coefficient, accuracy and RNG is roughly 20, what a bad joke)
Austin without MBRB but reload mod and Heavy SAP/HE skill 303k SAP DPM (worst than any tier 10 CLs and Des Moines/Salem) 202k HE DPM (compare to stock Gearing which has 216k lmao)
So at this point the only way to deal with an Austin is to get an RN BB, load the HE and stay beyond its gun range, so you need someone else to spot it for you.

50% player here but I have a 33% win rate in this ship. Very difficult to play for the average player, see Notser's commentary. As usual, flambass is the most OP part of this setup.

I don't really see how this ship is OP. There is burst damage in the game, in torps and BBs. Every time Flambass gets shot at he cries for help. When he has '90k and game barely started' it's actually 1/3 of a game and he lost half of HP. Only few % of players can play this ship. Also people will learn, and act differently. And for competitive it might actually be welcome change.
I get that, that reload boost is crazy dpm but every ship you were firing at with it active was getting shot at by other ships, causing more damage then what appeared you were doing. It's still crazy strong when active though.
All this dmg done without enemy radar or cv or being particularly focused and also because the map provided decent cover all around. I mean, it is very similar to smolensk, under these circumstances she would have been great too.

Pushing in balls deep with a low armored low hp t10 CL that can be citadeled by anything from about every angle.
