I love the information, you always come through with great information. I'm in the process of getting my biz off the ground and just left my 9-5 to give it all my attention. It's so much to do, a lot of information out here..I just don't want to get information overload and be going in circles not getting anywhere. I need a list of things to do from start to shop being open and ready to put out for the world to see. I value your opinion, so any information is greatly appreciated.
You definitely don’t want to get overloaded. Narrow down what you want to sell, where you’re going to sell at and buy only what you need to get started. Start small and grow. Build over time.
Hey, love your videos. Started an Etsy shop four months ago. I am enjoying it, it’s exciting. I’m learning a lot about the site. Your info has even very helpful. Etsy is the worst now. When I first started selling on etsy they did not have all those fees. They've become a money grab. I would only sell digital products on there now.

I'm thinking about opening an Etsy shop, I'm a new maker, but I've been watching all these Etsy videos and its scaring me to actually open the shop.
Fees are around 20%. Etsy gets fees for everything. Even from shipping.

I had an Etsy Shop, but didn't do well with it. I moved to Shopify within the last week and I'm still getting going, but I think in the long run it's a better fit for me. Thanks for the wealth of information about starting or growing a business with Etsy or Shopify or both. I will like that you gave the pros and cons for both platforms and it helped with understanding how each platform can be beneficial when starting a business. After watching this video, I think am start off using Etsy to build my customer base, etc. then transition to Shopify. I think doing both will help me gain great experience in learning to continue to start my own business on two different types of platforms in doing what it is needed to grow my business into a successful business as an African-American woman Entrepreneur. I know it's not growing to be a easy journey at times but its definitely going to be well worth the hard work after its said and done. TBH!! You have really been inspiration to me more than you know. I just want to say thank you very much. I will keep you update on the process of starting my business on both platforms and as well as others.

I have both an Etsy shop and my own website. I tell people all the time they're very different so just do both but wait until you have a good customer base and marketing plan before opening Shopify.

Thanks for the comparison. I believe both are great tools. Although, I started to build an eCommerce store with ShopFunnels. It going great as it does not require any coding skills and offers varieties of features too. I’m looking forward to seeing the results with ecom store.

Really helpful information as usual! More to think about! I'm still at the planning stage, trying to figure out what to sell, designs, branding etc! I have a niche that I'm focusing on. Spent my entire day researching blanks, suitability of fabrics, and on and on..... I ate dinner at 11:00pm as usual I lost track of time! I'm slowly getting there, but damn there is so much to learn! It's not easy deciding to start a business solo. Trying to learn as much as I can from those who are already up to their armpits in it! Thanks Katrina! Darn! I just looked up at the clock and it's 2:15am. I've lost track of time again! All this planning really does consume my day! Sheesh!

Hi Katrina, what assurance/insurance companies can you recommend for a start-up on-line business? Also, do you have or would you recommend cyber insurance? I'm just trying to explore my options. It seems most providers want to you have a certain income level before recommending a rate. It's hard to make that determination when you are just starting out. Thanks in advance.

Is that possible if you could talk about tax related stuff for Shopify? Do they send you the tax stuff at the end of the year? Do they collect tax on each state when you ship to other state?
I have Etsy shop and for every £1000 they take around £300 on those ridiculous fees...I think once you start to sell in large quantities, you should move to your own website, and invest that money in ads and marketing in general. No to pay freaky listing fees

I am trying to figure out 1. What are some advices on trying to start your own first brand? And 2. What is the best website to start on?
I have to say that we are a clothing brand and want to make future t-shirts, other caps, etc.

Hello and thank you. Are you using it in your phone or desktop. It o Ly works on a desktop ai believe. But it works. Let me know big you use it on a desktop and have issues. I get notifications every time someone uses it.

Awesome video! I know both Shopify and Etsy offer the drop shipping method. What is your take on starting on drop shipping store using platform? The products I’m interested in selling aren’t exactly homemade/ crafty items. More so wholesale items thank you in advance!
I don't do drop shipping. I don't want anyone taking away from my profits but it could be for your. that's just me.

All the difference Etsy fees are there to rip you off. Etsy and other platform like it are more or less a franchise that takes money directly out of your pocket when you sell. They don't even care if they set up another (virtual) shop right across the (virtual) street from you, either way they are making (stealing) money.
True, true! I understand that Etsy is supposed to "help" you out by selling items but it isn't a good deal in good terms. It should be small percentage, not whole half profit!😢

You might need to change your photos or keywords, maybe it's the pricing. Just look at everything and see what you can improve on, Is there s need for what you're selling?

I use Square, and paid for a year along with paying for a year for my domain name - but both are about to be due to be paid. I'm not too thrilled with Square, It doesn't allow me to make it my own very much you can only customize a small amount, and when I go to my site as if I was a customer I find it very ugly and boring , because I can't really do much with it. If I drop Square but keep my domain will it work with Shopify? I don't want to lose my domain name.
Yes you should be able to use your same domain wherever you want.
