@@water_estore Gary I have an interesting question about the regeneration process in regards to the salt intake. I have a digital clack valve. I noticed that the brine tank filling stage takes 9 min for my brine tank to fill with approximately 3 to 4 gallons of water. But when it regenerates it sucks in the brine for 50 minutes. By the 10 min mark all the water is gone from the brine tank and it is only sucking in air for the remaining 40 minutes. Is this correct? Does it also need air circulation after taking in the salt to agitate the media? Or should I reduce the brine intake time to say 15 minutes? Thank you!
@GarytheWaterGuy I'm on city water and using the test strips to test my water. They are pretty red >= 25 gpg when testing water before softening, but my softened water seems to be down to only 7 gpg after the softener (this is testing even just after a regen cycle). I replaced the resin a few months ago (prior to replacing resin it wasn't really doing anything). Regeneration is running as it should, brine tank is draining and filling as it should. No clogged drain line, no leaks on brine hose. I'm using diamond crystal yellow salt bellets. I've tried setting gpg on the softener to 40 to trigger more frequent regenerations. I've even tried manually triggering regen nightly thinking maybe it isn't efficiently cleaning the resin. No matter how frequent I regenerate I get the same results. I have this same type of softener in this video - a very large unit with a tall resin tank. How can I increase the efficiency of my softener? Is it only going to get my water down to 7 gpg? I thought I should see a green test strip (
@@water_estore unfortunately no bypasses are open 😔 (but that was a great thought!) all are set as they should be and water softener shows current flow rate going through softener which is showing the flow rate being used.

I assumed you couldn’t test hot water with test strips and I shrugged it off but your comment got me thinking. I thought maybe even though the 3 way was off maybe the valve was bad and leaking. I turned off the three way and source to water softener essentiallly closing everything, and went around my house turning on faucets. I found that my kitchen cold water and refrigerator water source bypass the water softener. Of course the outside spigots bypass the softener but the kitchen cold water shocked me…. I have a 7 year old EcoSmart ECS-39 High Efficiency 39,000 grains water softener. It stopped working and turned out to be a salt bridge. My media tank is inside of the salt tank. I cleared the salt bridge with the help of your videos and a wet/dry vac. Thank you. I have since cleaned the brine tank fully, let it dry, then added crystal salt and manually regenerated. I then added Iron Out because the bottom of the brine well had what looked like rust stains. I manually regenerated the system again and waited 3 days to test the water with hardness test strips. My kitchen sink and refrigerated filtered water are on bypass (city water), so they tested hard around 120ppm. The hot water and other taps are being softened somewhat and tested between 15-25ppm. Here are my questions: Isn't my softened water supposed to test at 0ppm if my water softener were working properly? Are the hardness test strips accurate? Should I use Pro Products Res Care to clean the Resin beads? My EcoSmart is not regenerating on it's own, though I have it set for a water hardness of 27 and 4 people living in the household. Please let me know what my next steps should be.
Yes, hardness should be 0 ppm of hardness if yiour softener is working. Hardness strips are fairly accurate, but an actual hardness test is more accurate. If you have iron in your water, res care will help clean the media beads. If it's not regnerating on it's own the meter likely isn't working. Thanks Garry. Clack Valve on 9" x 48" tank with fine mesh. Capacity set to 3200 gains, Downwash with 9.5 lbs salt. Installer set my hardness at 20, but my tests show water is 15 grains. 2 weeks ago, Clack said 500 gal remaining so I wanted to test for hardness leakage. But system did a Regen with 500 gal remaining. When does auto Regen start? I thought it would go closer toward 0 gal. 2 weeks later and I am back at 500 gal remaining. Did a test and no calcium detected. So I set grains at 17 (15 measured +0 mangoneese +0 iron + 2 buffer). So now I have 800 gallons remaining. Will check for leakage in a few days. But when does Clack auto Regen? Does it consider gallons remaining and last usage? It didn't go to zero last time and regenerated way before I thought it would. Want to optimize system. At 20 grain setting I get 1,600 gal. Now at 17 grain, I should get almost 1,900 gal.
Hi. I have my hardness set at 30 which is 1100 gallons of capacity and the regeneration cycle set at 7 days. The capacity reached 0 on the 5th day. should it then automatically regenerate? it still says softening when I have the water on even though it's at 0. I thought the regeneration starts at the 0 capacity mark or the number of days set. what ever happens first?
If it is a metered softener you have 1100 gallons or 7 days, whichever comes first. When it says softening that just means that the meter is counting down the gallons. It typically calculates a reserve capacity which would trigger the regeneration before you get to zero.
We have put salt into the water softener last night and pushed for regenerate tonight. There was water up to about sign 2 and this morning almost all of the 40 lb of salt disappeared. Does that mean that the softener works or only the salt has melted by itself?
It means that the water dissolved the salt and during regeneration the resulting brine was used up. If you now test your waters hardness after the water softener you will know if it is working or not.
Actually 486 videos. I assume that yoiu mean the impeller in a Waterboss water softener? If so we have a video on that here th-cam.com/video/YCr98fSFCrM/w-d-xo.html and you can email us for the repalcement part here info@waterestore.com
I have never seen a hand held tester for hardness. If you are referring to a TDS meter like this waterestore.ca/products/hm-digital-tds-3-handheld-tds-meter-with-carrying-case it does not test water hardness just total dissolved solids. The hardness after a water softener should be 0.

@@water_estoreThanks for getting back with me.I have a whirlpool watersoftener and it is probably about 15 years old. And from what I read they are a "once and dump" machine. I tried what you said several times and it didn't work I have plans to get a Clack installed on Monday...
Is it supposed to be loud like water running
Yes, during the back wash and rinse cycles. The brine cycle is quieter.
@@water_estore also should bypass be on or service before registration
My regenerator does not sound as loud as before and salt not going down. Do I need to replace it.
It might just need service. Please check out this video of mine th-cam.com/video/Lr3jyGiJdC0/w-d-xo.html
Tap water is tasting salty. I did not change the water hardness setting.
Did you use water while it was regenerating? This video might help th-cam.com/video/3GQWpqlLBps/w-d-xo.html
Help! My Water Boss starts filling with water when in Service mode. We have cleaned out the water at least three times, but cannot find why the brine continues to fill with water and does not drain out.
Likley there is a problem with the piston. You will need to repalce the drive end cap assembly to fix it waterestore.com/products/aquamaster-drive-end-cap-assembly-54520
Your video is very informative however, it would be much better. If you had a camera that could capture what you’re doing specifically with all the buttons you’re pressing.
Thnaks for the tip. What exactly are you unsire about after watching this video?
Is setting hardness to 25 because I have iron a good thing?
It depends on how much hardness and iron that you have. This video should help th-cam.com/video/XMY69hdhX44/w-d-xo.html
Can u please make a manganese filter totorial and how to inastall it plsss i need it
Yes, it is on the list. A water softener will remove most manganese.
I click on the regen button and nothing happens. It just says “motor stalled error”
What do I do? Thanks in advance!
Sounds like something has jammed the piston inside the valve.
I WANT TO USE A WHOLE HOUSE WATER SOFTNER AS A STAND ALONE FOR CAR WASHING INSTEAD OF SMALLER SOFTNERS. WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE?
Yes, that is the best way. This one will work well for you waterestore.com/products/hum-deluxe-water-softener-30-000-grain
Hello! We have a new water softener and I thought it would help my hair and skin. But what I have noticed is that the water is sometimes cloudy, my hair is even dryer than before and so is my skin. Is there a reason that the previous hard water made my hair look and feel better as well as my skin? Just really confused 🤔
I would mnake sure that whoever installed your water softener tested the water and set your water softener correctly. Call them and ask.
The system calculates your reserve capacity which determines when the regeneration will be done.
My water softener not starting on the time sets
Is the current time and the regen time set correctly?
We have put salt into the water softener last night and pushed for regenerate tonight. There was water up to about sign 2 and this morning almost all of the 40 lb of salt disappeared. Does that mean that the softener works or only the salt has melted by itself?
It means that the water dissolved the salt and during regeneration the resulting brine was used up. If you now test your waters hardness after the water softener you will know if it is working or not.
What happens is the system regeneration everyday
It shouldn't. Check the programming th-cam.com/video/c6r7qUK8to4/w-d-xo.html
How to set it to regenerate theee days a week not every day
If you have a Clack water softener this video shows you how.th-cam.com/video/c6r7qUK8to4/w-d-xo.html
300 friggen videos on something so simple, BUT NOT ONE VIDEO TELLS YOU WHERE TO GET THAT STUPID IMPELLER WITH THE TWO MAGNETS!
Actually 486 videos. I assume that yoiu mean the impeller in a Waterboss water softener? If so we have a video on that here th-cam.com/video/YCr98fSFCrM/w-d-xo.html and you can email us for the repalcement part here info@waterestore.com
Can I use a handheld test/ water hardness testers to confirm the doftener is doing it thing?
And what should the water hardness be?
I have never seen a hand held tester for hardness. If you are referring to a TDS meter like this waterestore.ca/products/hm-digital-tds-3-handheld-tds-meter-with-carrying-case it does not test water hardness just total dissolved solids. The hardness after a water softener should be 0.
