Daniel, I wouldn't use the "blame yourself game" mentality, because it's a form of negative self-reinforcement which is "NOT" the direction people should go towards. Everyone operates from different socioeconomic circumstances, but they also live in uncontrollable circumstances, so there is absolutely no one single "blanket statement" which can cover this topic. Unfortunately, this sounds like a "high school football coach/jock speech" which would pinpoint a skewed projection, so turn down the volume on this topic and leave it to the professionals ― Like myself, whose earned an M.D. and a Ph.D. in Psychology. "Real Life" isn't a game, Daniel ― Life is formed from different circumstances ― Like myself, for example, I had to turn my angst, desperation, hardships, and the constant sabotage from fighting with my family ― Just being myself. I had to attending over 10 years in University Education (not accounting for internship time); however, I did all of it by myself, when I would have loved some family support. I never say that anyone can do the same.... !!!! That would be insensitive, arrogant, as well as very hurtful. BTW (Daniel): I was a high level tennis player, who was on the Stanford University Tennis Team. Personally, I would play "singles" because I can't work in a team format ― If there was anyone to blame for a competitive loss, I knew it, I knew it far better than what my coach could ever say to me. Team sports create a natural "subculture" that's interdependent upon other peoples success, which is taken far too seriously within United States mentality. I always say, "Try British Rugby: Now, that's a difficult team sport".
YOU ARE A BETTER PERSON AND YOU ALWAYS NOW IT

Don’t take this the wrong way but truth be told, you’re still a kid
YOUR COOL
Ture statements , delivery is a little harsh. For kids your age you maybe need to be a little more gentle.
