I don't know how many videos I've watched to help me refill this ATG, and this is by far my favorite one (and the one that makes it the easiest)! Thank you!
So happy I found these instructions. I had no idea how to do this. During a recent move, it came apart and I did know how to put it back together. Thank you so much. 😊😊
Who else watches this video every time they have to fill their ATG? 🤣 Before I found this video I never used it cause I couldn’t refill it. Now, because of your video, it is one of my favorite and most used tools. Thank you!
Yay! Thanks so much for your lovely comment and visit! My apologies that it took me 2 months to see the comment but for some reason it didn't come up in my feed. Hope you have an amazing and crafty day. Stay safe!
yes thats what i mean live in south africa and we are bereft of craft supplies, craft shops so i am so jealous and delighted to watch your videos on things i cant get 😁but i do love to watch. our rand makes everything so expensive our postal system doesnt work and many sites wont send to south africa. i do buy stuff when i visit scotland (moved to sa 40 od years ago) also pricey but i.m careful what i buy. so all your lovely videos keeps me drooling but happy 😁🖒regards jean
Thanks for this Therese...I haven't lashed out and bought one yet but watching your video has pretty much persuaded me...you are the first person I have heard commenting on the affordability and quality of the tape...so thank you for that. Dixx
I have been on the shelf about this ATG device - really due to the size - I feel it might be a bit cumbersome. You have shared some excellent advice about it, so I am getting a bit closer to taking the plunge, so having a video on how to change the tape will be very useful :-) Thank you Therese!
I made 79 Christmas cards this year (one for every family in my Church, as well as one for each of my card friends), and the biggest nightmare was GLUE! Wet glue warped the paper, no matter how tiny a line I put (it was very thin coloured paper that I was using for my inserts). X-Press It tape runner worked fantastic, but Officeworks and Spotlight were out of stock, so I quickly ran out of the one I had at home. I resorted to buying tape runner from the discount store. Bought five tape runners, got home - the glue had dried up in all of them. Back to the store to return them. Came home with a different brand of tape runner. It worked great, so I used it on all my cards. Came back the next day to find the glue had unstuck and all my cards had come apart. I ended up having to liquid glue them all! (Thankfully the line of tape runner previously put on the paper helped to hide the liquid line warping, so at least it was kind of useful). That’s when I said “ENOUGH OF THIS MADNESS!!!” and bought the ATG. I’d avoided it because I have wrist issues, and was worried it would be too heavy / awkward for me to use, given its size. But X-Press It tape runner is too expensive to use all the time. And I never want a repeat of the 2020 Christmas Card saga 😂 So ATG it is! It just arrived today, and I went straight to TH-cam to learn how to put the tape in. When I saw your channel had a tutorial, I clicked on it first because I knew it would be good. And I was right! Thanks for the super clear, easy to follow instructions! I’m sure I can do this, now that you’ve shown the way! 😁 Edited to add: I did it! Took less than 5 minutes, even being my first time. I think in future it will probably take me less than 2 minutes, including the time it takes to remove the old spool and rubbish tape-backing. Thank you for your amazing tutorial!
I was the same, I thought the ATG was going to be too bulky, but after a few tries I got the knack of it. The best things about it for me are the lack of waste, the price point, also that I don't have to change it too often but most of all is the 'hold' I have never had a problem with the glue lifting. This is always one of my biggest fears and I have drawers of glue to prove that lol. Thank you so very much for your lovely visit here, you have made my day Sarah! Happy New Year and my your glue hold in 2021!
Thanks, Therese! I've been thinking about getting this tape runner because it's economical and now that I see how easy it is to refill, I may just do that :)
Hi Barb, It took me a long time (and a lot of other tape runners) to buy the ATG, but the final decider was ultimately the low price for such a great tape. Initially I wasn't real keen on the size, but I already knew that it was going to be big and it did take me a little while to get the 'knack' of adding the adhesive, but now it's my friend and I really like using it. I still buy 'dotted' adhesive tape runners and can use these when the technique permits, but the price of these is way too high for me to use them for every single project. If you know someone who owns one of these you may want to try it out first to see what you think. Thanks so much yet again for visiting and for your lovely comments. Hugs Therese
Hi again, I don't know anyone nearby but I think it's something I need to do...I'm spending way too much on the smaller tape runners. Thanks again for the tutorial, Therese...and I really appreciate your advice, too!
I love my ATG! I only use the General Purpose roll of tape though for card making. It's not so sticky/icky as the acid free rolls and if you con't press it down hard, a lot of times you can readjust it! A lot of ppl have complained to me that they don't like the ATG because of the tape, but when they try the General Purpose, they love it! You'll have to get some to try Therese! :D
Lol we did eventually succeed. Cat survived and is on my lap in bed. Brandy and dry helped.....I went back to it afterwards. I do wonder if ever I will be able to do it without a nervous breakdown. It is not logical! But I did get it going....finished off a heap of cards and posted to Instagram. Mogs4
I have got this tape gun but a lot of the time it isn't working very well for me, I've used the proper Scotch refill but the tape separates and also the tape goes too far to the left of the rollers and starts to come off the edge. I'm pretty sure I put the refill on properly so now I'm wondering if I've got a faulty refill, I'm wasting so much of it anyway maybe I should abandon this roll and try another refill. Have you had the problem of it going off the edge?
I saw a video by Amy Rysavy that speaks about rolls that aren't stored properly and it's like they 'warp', so she recommends to store the rolls flat to help prevent this. I've only had one roll that was a little bit dodgy but was able to fix it. But it may be just easier to bite the bullet and try a new roll and then you will know. Another thing that I've seen done is to create your own 'guard' by die cutting a thin cardboard 'donut shape' with some circle dies and place this over the tape roll and click it in the black tabs (this is for the side of the spool that has the new roll - not the used side) Hope this makes sense, i can't even remember where I saw this, but it was somewhere on TH-cam where people had a similar problem so maybe you could do a search for it. The other thing I find is that my tape gun doesn't click 'off' very well, so I stopped using this and just keep the trigger depressed all the time that I am using it and I have worked out that if I hold it down on the paper to add the adhesive by lifting it up slightly it separates from the cardstock and I don't have to do the click on / click off technique (which is a drag). Hope this helps and I hope you can get it sorted. It took me a little while to bond with my gun, but I worked it out that it was my user error mostly causing the problems, now I love it. Hugs Therese
Thank you so much for your suggestions - I'll try putting some card over the roll- that makes sense as the new roll doesn't sit flat on the holder. I've got another new roll so I'll try that if the card doesn't work. I'll just go and make sure my new roll is lying flat! It is in a box so I would have thought it would be ok. At the moment I have got a "Love, Hate" relationship with my tape gun! :)
Would you believe I just had to change my roll again and I noticed that my new roll didn't click in properly initially, I was thinking this may be something you could check on yours, that the roll is clicked in properly.. Good luck!
thanks for this Therese. i still haven't bought this one yet either. i keep thinking i'll be disappointed like the others i have bought. love the one i bought but the tape keeps separating from the liner and i waste so much. does this ever happen to this one? crafty hugs
Hi Pearl, I only buy the 'proper' Scotch brand tape for the ATG (and haven't yet been able to source the 'gold' version here in Australia) and have never had any problems with the tape separating from the roll. In saying that though it did take me a little while to 'bond' with mine as you are meant to click the trigger to get the tape running and then let go to stop it and mine doesn't seem to like to 'let go'. So I changed my technique and hold the trigger continuously instead (which is easier anyway) and just pull off the paper and that stops it better than me remembering to let go of the trigger anyway.... was that a little confusing lol. anyway, there is still a place in my craft room for a dotted tape runner but I pretty much prefer my ATG for anything else that I can. I just can't beat the price (and from what I hear there are some great specials on ebay if you live in the US, not so sure about Australia though). Hope this is helpful, thanks so much for visiting and commenting, Hugs Therese
I get refills on eBay. Recently I was able to purchase 10 rolls for $20… US… With only $2.79 shipping. So if you are looking for more affordable options you might check eBay
You can buy this from Papercraft stores like Ellen Hutson (here is my link bit.ly/2nI3fyz ) and it has refills available. You cannot use just any tape. Hope this is helpful.
I hate filling my AGT GUn... I can’t do it....each time I battle for an hour. I cannot see arrows on the tape, the glue comes unstuck. And what is worse is I thought this uTube helped me last time...will it help to kick cat?. SOBS. Lol I think G&T or brandy and dry has to be on the agenda
ooh Yes, a G&T or Brandy would definitely help lol. It is a great tool when it's working but you are right it can be a little fickle to refill..... Once I tried to refill it and hadn't taken the empty spool off , another time I forgot to add the lock in place over the empty spool. Good luck and maybe kissing the cat will help x
Yes, I don't understand why this hasn't been done already... the best of all put together would be perfect! I don't like the waste of the small dispensers either, is this what you mean? So happy you visited, Hugs Therese
Nope. This doesn’t work because the sticky part rubs the small right-hand wheel and dispenses the stickiness in a fine mess. I have to skip the small right-hand wheel altogether. Of the big wheels, the left one wraps in a “9” configuration and the right one wraps as a “p”. The template and directions that come with the device are useless. 3M doesn’t even support the web link on the template, nor was there anything “atg” to be found on their site. I’ve had my dispenser for several years now and had hoped that 3M had made some improvements in the interim, but alas, no.
I have had the incidence of the stick coming off and almost like it 'doubles up' but I have been using mine for years and have had no problems with replacing the tape. I always use the 3M brand tape, I know that there are others out there that people recommend and I don't know if that makes a difference. But I am glad that you found a way for it to work for you. It is certainly a much more affordable option for double sided tape. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
I don't know how many videos I've watched to help me refill this ATG, and this is by far my favorite one (and the one that makes it the easiest)! Thank you!

I totally hear you, it took me ages to get my head around it lol.
me too! LOL
Me, too!!!
Thank you this was perfect. I really appreciate people who do these kind of videos. I only had to watch it twice to get it.!
Thanks so much Josie, it's a great tool and such an affordable option for double sided tape.
