My father was a furniture refinisher by trade. I often think to myself... _"Daddy, you died too soon. I could've put you on TH-cam!"_
He always wanted to pass his trade on to others. And he was such a ham! Folks would have loved him! ♥♥♥
Thanks for sharing your incredible talents. It reminds me so much of working with my father when I was a younger girl.

I'm not sure how I got to watching this video (I have no furniture in need of refinishing) but I'm glad I have because your comment totally just made my day. I lost my dad too soon too, its hard when that happens cause you see them everywhere and in everything, even a youtube video, right? Anyway, I'm sure your dad was a great man and its obvious he was loved very much by his daughter. Remembering him and sharing his story with others is a gift, keep doing it and best wishes on the future to you and yours.

My parents bought the side tables that go to this coffee table at Sears in the summer of 1967. In the late 70’s I found this very table at a consignment store for $40. My Mom was thrilled. Back in 1967, they could not afford the complete set. There it sits proudly to this day in my Mom’s living room. I have always loved this set. Looks as beautiful today as it did when we first saw the set in Sears all those years ago. Thank you for this tutorial! The table looks amazing!

I've seen way too many videos where the individual has gone on and on and on, to the point where you're about half way through watching yet no actual work has begun! Satin always looks much nicer than high gloss, and doesn't highlight any imperfections like gloss does.

    • @majorpayne5289
      @majorpayne5289 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Eric Veritas Blair -👍Somewhat agree. Satin is a great look w/ today’s homes/interiors however satin/gloss... depends the surrounding “environments”.
I’ve found the older crowd wants the hi gloss while the younger generation (s) prefers the satin look or a flat w/ absolutely no sheen.
At any rate, I lean towards a satin finish as well. 👍✌️

Nice table even before any work is done. The lighter finish is what was "in" at that time. Danish Modern was everywhere. Including my parent's Livingroom! Lane was a good company at one time. Their Hope Chests were extremely popular back in the day. They were usually lined in cedar. I enjoy your channel. I have been a furniture salesperson for many years. Just retired at 63. Will probably get back in after Im done having some fun. As I finish writing, you've finished the table. Beautiful! I love the darker, warm finish.

Oh, so this is mass produced stuff? I'm assuming it's 1960s by the legs. I'm wondering if you're both in the USA and if so, if it's the same state. If you're going to do them up, I'd love to hear how it goes. I'm conflicted on Dashner's approach although there's no dismissing the effect. It may be mass produced but an inspired use of dovetail in design, that's f' sure.

This video is perfect. I too got one at a yardsale about 18 years ago. Someone had painted it gray and I didn't like it. I painted it black and then red. I know, I was 23 or so. Just yesterday my wife and I decided to send it to the burn pile. I said, its a shame, its from a reputable company, Lane. I took a hot second and looked it up online. And yup, same one! I will post a video at some point of the journey. Lucky find! When the paint revealed the dove tails....damn!!

I have two of these tables with matching end tables and hopefully my neighbor will remember me when they get rid of theirs. Family has always loved the brand and we like everything to match. The one we have was family owned since it came to market and the other I actually found on a trash pile and was actually using it as a work surface for my dirt bikes for awhile. Of course I was always gentle with it while working, covering it with plastic then brown paper before each work session.

I grew up with it, recently inherited it, and still love it. Your refinish looks just like the original finish on mine, but mine need refinishing badly after decades of wear and tear. My compliments on your talent and your channel. I especially appreciate that you are able to accomplish such great restorations without a large high tech shop. I love it when you're out in your driveway, toiling away while the traffic goes by. I can see now that I am too easily discouraged from projects by a lack of space and fancy equipment that aren't even really necessary. Thank you for opening my eyes. I also appreciate the clear and concise way that you explain your thought process and the work that goes into your work. Keep the videos coming!

This was a gorgeous restoration. I have this table and two side tables in equally bad condition. Your stain color choices and lacquer were perfect. Im going to try it out on mine this summer. Thank you for the detailed video!

OMGosh, I still have my 'Lane' Hope Chest w/ same Dovetail design, given as a Birthday gift in 1963. The darker stain-finish is what I have, also. Certificate that came w/ it said that it was Cherry wood. I love the redish brown color. Still have the original finish. (Cedar wood inside, of course.).. You did a great job refinishing the table. Thanks for the step-by-step tutorial. ; )

I have this coffee table. Was handed down from my in-laws. I actually like the contrast in the top. It makes in more interesting to look at. Great piece all around.

This table reminds me of a “Moeller Fabrik” coffee table. This manufacturer sold their fine furniture through a firm in PNW named Scan design. I saw them being made at Moeller in Aarhus, DE in 1976. All of their stuff from the late 60’s through 80’s is really fine wood craft. Enjoyed your work. Thank you.

Nice, I literally just did the same table. I kept the top original but decided to do the legs in a satin black and sanded the feet to expose the wood. Got $140 for it. Lane Acclaim always sells well.

I grew up buffing one of those coffee tables to a high shine. My mom taught me young how to dust and clean and make the furniture shine. We had the end table too!

I used to have the matching end tables to your coffee table. At first I thought your darker idea would have ruined the piece. But I really, really like what you've done! It looks better than the original colors.
