Had the same issue... was riding in water alot, when suddenly I was stuck in either 1st (in drive), neutral or reverse. My quad has the shifter for those three positions (D,N,R) then shift buttons like yours to change gears once your into drive... I tried changing the angle sensor no luck, tried dissasembling the shift motor, clean it reinstall, no luck, tried a brand new battery still no luck!! So finally after doing all the diagnostics in order (ones listed in manual) I found out it was my ECM's internal drive motor circuit that had somehow shorted out (meaning when a shift signal from the buttons went to the ecm it would just stop there, the signal wouldnt make it all the way to the shift motor). So Instead of buying a 400$ ecm, I spliced the wires coming from the shift buttons, and hooked them up to a set of 4 relays (upshift 1 for + and 1 for -, and downshift 1 for + and 1 for -) then wired the relay outputs to the shift motor with the up wires in reverse polarity and down wires in regular polarity, Works perfectly now and only had to spend 40$ for wiring/relays/splicing tools vs 400$ for an ecm!

I had the same problem on my 10 420 es. A few months later the shifter locked up. I had to remove the shift motor and small front cover. There is a reduction gear between the shift motor and the shift lever. The bearings for the reduction gear were rusted and worn out. Replaced those two tiny bearings and now problem free for two years. By the way the bearing is the same size that's in the center of a fidget spinner if honda is closed and you need one in a pinch on a weekend.
When you put that née sensor on it how did you install it ? Just put it in like the one you took out ? I changed mine cause I was inside there anyways and now I have this problem lol
Ive got a 2003 Rubicon that I changed the carb on. It ran and drove before I changed it out just really crappy, now I have no spark. New coil and wire plug checks out ok. Where else should I look?
Hello, there is a problem on my 2008 Honda trx250tm ES fourtrax. the indicator on the display shows a different position compared to the position on the gearbox. for example on the screen it says that the gearbox is in first gear, but the gearbox is actually in neutral and the green light for neutral does not light up. when I press the small handle and the button down to put it in reverse, the green light for neutral comes on and the gearbox is in reverse gear. I note that I can't get the letter R on the screen at all. I changed the angle sensor but everything is the same. Does anyone have a solution?
Anyone knows my Forman es has a problem to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear after sitting for a day or so ! I have to push sifter bottom 5 times sometimes to shift it !
My 2003 Rubicon 500 just started flashing esp d1 d2 but it works in automatic just fine. Could this be my issue too ya think? Just got it yesterday and started doing it today not impressed

My problem was in the shift motor itself. took it off, cleaned the contacts/brushes and put it back together. works like new. So while these are good fixes, it's not "end of story"
I know lol, "end of story" like he is the only resident genius that tried the angle sensor. I had the contact problem also. I just sanded the inside and put weaker contact springs in. Some people have wiring problems, others have ecu problems etc.

Mine won't go into automatic and in es only goes to 2345 no 1 gear it's a 2015 420 rancher? You think that maybe a sensor
