- Adding options to the specification of a car like the Ferrari 296 GTS can quickly become a scary game! Let's run through the full order list and exact prices of every option on the Shmeemobile, and prepare for some surprises along the way. I'm obsessed with the result of this spec!
It's an absolute privilege to be in the position to order a brand new Ferrari, something I could only have dreamed about a decade ago, and there's certainly an element therefore of always enjoying making something that's unique with a totally bespoke spec. The 296 GTS is only my second new Ferrari after the SF90 Stradale, and I wanted to make this something completely different; beyond being a convertible, having a V6, and being my first 'red' car from Maranello.
With a design that's very much a throwback to the 1960s Dino, I opted for Rosso Dino; a red that's very much at the orange end of the palette, and even the matching nod on the plate. The interior is a very custom mix of Grigio Scuro and Charcoal leathers and Alcantara on the upgrade Style seat.
The exterior is completed with Satin Grigio Corsa wheels and Giallo calipers to link with the Scuderia Shields; and wears the Matte Black exhaust at the rear with the satin badges, along with the full set of visual carbon fibre all around. On the interior the must have options like the Carbon Fibre LED driver zone are in position, and of course usability comes from the likes of the Suspension Lifter and Surround Cameras.
We'll break this list down into the exterior options prices, the cost for all the interior upgrades, and finally the technology spec that features on the Shmeemobile. You might be surprised by some of the figures, in both a good and bad way, but let's get to the final total for my Ferrari 296 GTS and see what it comes out to.

@@EsPeeArrEnn It is reasonable for what it is. It's all relative. You may be poor and £100 is probably a lot for you, but for most people it's whatever. The same thing applies here, for most people it's an amount of money they will never have, but in the supercar market it's a quite a nice and reasonable price for what you get.
The cost of those extras is outrageous!!

I miss the Shmee logo in the colour of the car being reviewed/driven. This proves the only constant is change itself.
It's something we're thinking about but general best practice on TH-cam is to switch it up a lot so we'll see what happens next

Nice to see another Ferrari in the garage. Can never have too many. I have never really understood why people pay so much for carbon fibre. From 3 feet away it just looks like a dark grey trim, up close it looks like a shiny patterned plastic trim. I know it’s lighter but quite frankly you would never feel the difference. Personally I prefer plain black trims but I don’t have the funds to purchase the car let alone the trim. Good way of lowering the corporation tax when spending £73k on options alone. 👍🏼
Wow Ferrari sure know how to charge on the options. What I’m surprised at is how little you get as a standard fit like apple car play, a front camera, rear cross traffic alert and front reader. I do agree with you though spec can make a big difference when it comes to sale time. It’s going to be interesting Tim what the next Ferrari is going to cost when it arrives currently my favourite spec of your cars is the SF90.
If you already think about the basic price of a car like this and then add any little detail, as an extra. There really is something to think about this pricing policy.

@@philiprush3745 I agree £7,000 for what is a metallic colour is taking the pee when on any other car would be £700. Even Porsche aren’t that greedy they charge £1,000 for there special colour like crayon. But that’s Ferrari motoring for you. As one dealer told me many years ago we don’t set the price you do. In short if your daft enough to pay it then that’s the price.
@@stephenclay6852 Depending on the model Porsche charges between £2200-2900 for special colours like Crayon (only checked 911's). PTS colours are £8800-12500+ so they're not that much better.
@@Speednote10 Even Cupra charges like 2700€ for a matte petrol blue paint. I just paid 850€ for a bog standard metallic white on a Kia. It's just inflation I guess...
The entire car is a required option to purchase the Purosangue… the pull they have is just nuts!
I've always found some of the charges that Ferrari, Porsche etc can get away with charging just mind boggling. I doubt they would be this ridiculous if they weren't living in this bubble of excess demand.
£462 to thread a different colour thread onto a sewing machine. That would take someone about 20 seconds to do. £719 to change the colour of thread used for the headrests? Bonkers. Virtually all of those two additional charges will be pure profit.
Ferrari are no longer a low volume manufacturer and consequently they will enjoy a lot of savings from their economies of scale. I'd buy a Ferrari tomorrow if I could, but as someone who's worked in manufacturing for 30 years, they're creaming it on the options.
I think it's more outrageous when companies like VW/VAG do the same. They'll tell you the list price is 40K but then you have to add 10K in options until you even have a nice, modern car. If you take the full spec, you're going to be 15K above list price.
They know how to milk wealthy people that do not care about "pocket money". As you said, BONKERS.

I’m not sure how much this means to you but I’ve been watching since your R8 V10 announcement video. I really love being involved in the ordering,speccing and delivery process of Ferraris. As somebody that can’t yet buy a Ferrari, my single car is a 2011 Toyota lol, it is very interesting to watch.

Well there's usually two.
There's the "My First Ferrari"
There's the "Unimaginative Ferrari"
And obviously you can combine the two.
Now while Rosso Dino is called Rosso Dino, It's very much orange.
@@frooqyit’s mainly because people assume that if you get a red Ferrari, that all you care about is resale value, hence Rosso corsa being nicknamed ‘resale red’, typically with a black (as tim said) or a tan interior

Love the 296 congratulations!! This car is already a beast, but I recently had the opportunity to drive one with a remap to remove the electronic limiter, plus a benefit with a direct exhaust!! What an incredible machine!! I am completely in love with the car! Beautiful tribute to 250LM

Making all those references to the original Dino, I would have gone for the Daytona seets. The Dino with the "chairs and flares" package has always been my favourite Dino 246 spec. Anyway, incredible spec, incredible car... Congratulations!!!
I actually don't think 23k on the interior is bad value for money for that amount of personalisation, it'd be the cost of the carbon that would make me 🤢

Thank you for sharing your detailed options. I love your choices of options : non carbon engine bay (make sense), your interior which surprises me and it works, the subtle matt Ferrari horse emblem and name, and last the Rosso Dino with grey wheels : it reminds me of Schumacher special Enzo. I think your Rosso Dino choice is at home at your 296 GTB than the Giallo, Rosso Corsa and TDF Blu. Big congrats !!!
Beautiful spec Tim! Has me wondering what I’ve done with mine as it spec’d at $512K…without AF. Although quite a bargain considering my SF90 spider AF spec’d at $796K. Looking forward to more Ferrari content. Hopefully you’ll get an XX. I’m planning Atelier for mine early next year.

Don’t know if this was mentioned and I missed it. Do the miles done on the electric engine count towards the breaking in mileage as it’s not using the engine?

I think the Topaz Paint Protection Film (PPF) makes great sense for a car of this value. Especially since you drive your cars on the open roads as Enzo intended. Realizing that it’s an aftermarket purchase and not a Ferrari option, you didn’t include it in the purchase price. Just curious to know what full car Topaz PPF adds to the car’s overall price. Another £5 to 10,000?

Highlight is definitely the interior, love the play of different grey colors, and the orange stitching.
This is probably my favourite Ferrari right now alongside the 812. Even though its a V6, I still think its the most beautiful Ferrari out right now.
Personalisation is part and parcel of choosing the spec... when you're driving around you can say "I picked all of this"... As opposed to buying someone else's spec...

Rosso Dino will affect resale as it is not the most popular colour, especially now.
It must be amazing to be able to spec your own Ferrari but the prices are nuts. I’d spec mine as a base model and use the £75k to go for a 1998 F355 as my optional extra.

Out of curiosity - how much extra if you add the full Topaz PPF to the total?
I checked and a complete PPF kit is priced from £4740!!
I am really not a fan of red cars, ironically especially Ferraris doesn't look good in red imo.
But this car has probably the best spec Shmee ever did. Love the design of the 296 and the hommage to the Dino is just perfect. So jealous.

Another way to look at it: The cost of the options on the Ferrari are about the same as the total cost of the nice yellow Lotus sitting in the background. Couldn't the front number plate have been mounted within one of the blackened "nostrils" that flank the nose (to the right or left of the nose)? Much nicer that way in my opinion, but perhaps not possible.

Tim. Not sure you will ever read this but how does the price of the 296 compare to the sf90. For me i think the sf90 looks better but that could be because of the colour. Perfect spec. But interested to see the values . And value for money

How does all these extra specs play out in the eventual resale value of a car?
Only a few are really important.
Carbon drivers zone.
Shields
Reverse cam
Upgraded audio
Everything else is not very important. In fact, in this car, the carbon seats also matter a lot o some.
@@AB-80-X Carbon Seats will be very important but this car doesn't have the Asetto Fiorano Package, so, they don't make completely sense at all.
I definitely would go with the SF90 Spyder, toro Rosso, tan interior.

Damn, $1500 for orange horsies on the headrest is insanity but this car is gorgeous and spec'd perfectly! I still cant get behind supercars having a v6 or being electric, regardless of horsepower... They were always high revving v10 or v12 with the occasional burbly twin turbo v8, thats what made them special and evoke so much emotion in true car guys. But times are changing and i guess i need to get with it. Hope to see another gtc4lusso or ff one day. Im going to look at a Neimam Marcus Edition FF this weekend. The price is certainly on point for a 1 of 10 made. Will hopefully be my first six figure car or even luxury car unless you count clapped out bmws. Lol

If your going to order it may as well enjoy it. I could afford registration fee😂 Beautiful Car and it should actually get decent mpg. It absolutely the Ferrari I’d love to own although the new Roma open top is lovely as well.
