I used to watch Soul Train and American Bandstand every Saturday.
On Saturday nights they had a show called Solid Gold. All three shows always had awesome performances!
These were TV shows. They have a live audience that danced. Good music!

I remember all us kids on the block spending hours and hours in our garage trying to copy all the dance moves. Soul Train was a weekly TV show which was R&B's answer to the TV show American Bandstand which was mostly white. Those sure were some good times❣️

Ya know...as a young white kid watching American Bandstand, then discovering Soul Train??? Soul Train was where it was at!!! Don't get me wrong, I liked them both, but there was something about Soul Train....a freedom if you will that I didn't see as a child in the dancing, the singing ....I loved it. 🕊️❤️🎶

One of Philadelphia's favorite sons, Teddy Pendergrass, who left us too soon. What a voice.
And Tim, this is neither a music video nor a concert. It's an appearance on a popular TV Show called, *Soul Train,* that featured top Soul/R&B artists of the '70s when it was on, and brought folks in to dance during the songs. Not pro dancers, regular folks, but you didn't just walk in off the street, you had to apply to get on the show.

  • @karenmcdade7718

You have to listen to Teddy Pendergrass solo. He's the one who sung lead. His songs "Turn Off The Lights" "TKO" and some of his duets with Stephanie Mills and Whitney Houston are some of my favorites.

Wow! Does this bring back memories! I went to see them at a club when this song came out.We sat about 20 feet from the stage. People would dance and have a good time. Teddy Pendergrass(R.I.P.) sang lead on this. He was awesome.

  • @TroysPop

The lead singer of the group at this time was Teddy Pendergrass, one of the best R&B/soul voices ever. I can barely watch these old clips anymore without getting emotional, knowing what happened to him in later years.

The whole idea around Soul Train was to showcase new dance moves. It took many years before they were allowed to have anyone of color in the dance area, despite being able to have people of color perform. During every show, they would have the group split in half and a couple would dance in the line towards the camera. I can remember watching the old black and white shows as a little girl. Then, they finally got enough in advertising to not only air the show live, but in color. By the clothing the dancers , not professional...just teens wanting to go on TV, this was about the time they switched to color.

      @sharonwilson8208 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@margaretwilliams7658 I watched both. I very well could have the 2 shows mixed up. It's a miracle either one was televised, with the times the way they were, and the "rock & roll" attitudes by some, and of course advertisers were not shy about their views on people of color. I would say we've come a long way, and we had... unless my hopes were naivete.

Not a video shoot or a concert. It was a weekly TV program called "Soul Train". It came on every Saturday morning. The program featured live guests. The audience were people who showed up to the studio to dance to records and live performers. Soul Train was MC'd by the late great Don Cornelius. Soul Train was on TV from 1971 till 2006. I don't know anyone who didn't faithfully watch Soul Train. All colors loved Soul Train.

Tim, we love when you play the other songs because is that voice controlled or any of that it’s true them singing this is what we saw in our lifetime. These are the concerts. We went to every single one I can’t. I don’t think you could name one that I haven’t seen in person Honest to God we used to go down. Nobody would go in the black neighborhood and I used to go down in the black after our dry and I could go in the pine grove is on Jefferson and west is very in Buffalo New York and I like on the door and I go in because I knew Larry didn’t want it And we have a ball. Will you be there till six in the morning and and I’m not talking, drunk and drinking and stuff like that but we come from the Pine Grill now go up there for a couple hours and then go out breakfast and go home believe me as in a lot of the Zacks, especially one of your favorites, earth, wind, and fire used to play there all the time. Love you baby.

This has been bugging me for a while. Johnnie Taylor had a hit with Disco Lady, and one of the lines is"

Move it in, move it out
Move it in and about, disco lady"
    but later it goes:
    "You dance so fine
