    I was in my sewing room and decided to open up this old sewing cabinet that was given to me about 2 years ago. I never tried to sew on it. Today I learned how to thread it and it WORKS!
    This machine was manufactured for 1 year only. 1953. That's right. Interesting enough... that is the year I was born. So, I don't thing I will be giving this machine away. It is kinda special to me.... and it still works! Yippee. What a great discovery today. This TH-cam really helped me, thank you.

      Hi Susan! I just find today the same machine in a thrift store, she works but I’m not able to do the thread, or rewinding the spools. Can you please help me out! 🫶🏾

    First and foremost, thank you for the time and effort you put in for us viewers ! I don't own a Neechi BU just yet but found a really clean looking BU for sale near by for what seems to be a great price ($175). It has new powerful motor and a new electronic foot pedal. Iv'e talked to the gentleman on the phone a couple times setting up a meet time. He is a sew'r himself and has 1/2 doz machines. Here's where I need your help, he said he recently loaned it out to his sister and when he got it back to sell he said he can't get it to sew like it had when he first acquired it. (He said it sew'd amazing) It's bunching up thread on bottom side. He has tried new needle's, bobbin, bobbin tension, top tension, remove and re-install bobbin case etc. Now I don't know his knowledge of repair and diagnostics. Now he really doesn't want to sell cause he can't get it running. I hate to pass a clean BU for a more than fair price. Could it be as simple as the timing got knocked out ? I don't know how hard that is to do. Any thoughts of your would be appreciated. I am still going to go see machine tomorrow but wanted to go into it a little better prepared, ie How far should needle bar come up from bottom when hook is right behind needle? How close should hook point be from needle scarf ? Does a BU have timing marks on needle back like Singer's do ? Thanks again for you video's.

    I actually found one of these,The Necchi BU in my buildings tv shared common room. It’s been sitting in this room for years and it’s never been used. This Necchi still has the zigzag piece of stitching attached to it.
    All I was trying to do was get the tv from input to HDMI when I realized the tv remote batteries were dead. I opened this cubbard and oMG I thought for a second I was looking at those old school spy assassination cabinets theynhad. Once I opened the door,I’ve realized thread a spool of thread was sticking out of this shelf of a type of plastic copper casing to hold it. Once I lifted the top of the test off it’s hinges,it gave me the view of a beautiful cherry oak or some other wood that’s been carefully stained. It’s a beautiful work of art. The machine comes up,on these two hinges,it has the plugs for the light that’s attached to it…..the motor is 90w input 110volts. It’s got that made it Italy tag to it. I’m recording a video of it,with pictures and I’m gonna put it up on my channel. I’ve never made a video for my channel so I hope it’s alright. It’s not for the recognition or anything,I am just dead shocked at this discovery. Our building has a history. It was a women’s only Christian home for girls who were young unwed mothers the family would send off to give birth and the church would take care of the kids and the women would be born again. In the years it’s became more of a tradition to help women and it’s one of the few single room occupancy buildings of this area. So we all know eachother on the floor. When I’m the person who gets asked to fix the tv bc someone changes the channel from input, I’m not knowledgeable about this stuff. Another woman said,”Oh your opening up the soewing machine!” so she knew it was here but I’m just amazed at how Greatof shape it’s in. I may have broken the one hinge getting the machine up to the wood based on how I didn’t know how the hinge works and maybe it was just the time of it being in there,the thread was still attached to it. But I’m wondering if this should be in a museum, maybe this museum nearby,an art one or something. I’m gonna put this back and keep it covered. Just wow,so beautiful.

    This is one of the best built sewing machine. My mom had the Necchi Dora sewing machine when I was a kid. And that machine could of sewing anything. What I really like about this sewing machine is how it does the zigzag stitches. The oscillating shuttle is synchronized to move along with the needle bar as it moves left to right to create the stitches. As the needle bar changes positions, the entire shuttle assembly moves to match the needle position. This has some of the best stitch quality anyone can expect for a machine at that time and even now. Really top of the line Italian engineering. They don't make residential sewing machines like this anymore.

    Great Video, Very Informative! You now have a new subscriber! I currently own 4 NECCHI sewing machines.: a straight-stitch-only BF, a green BU MIRA, another green BU MIRA that has the aluminum extension bed with it, and a NECCHI MOD 535 (standard sewing bed) that a lady friend from church gave me when she bought a new Janome machine.. That 535 is an old war horse, and it proudly bears numerous battle scars from the many, many quilts that the lady had sewn on it over the years. I will keep that 535 because someday, she may become disillusioned with her new Janome machine, and she may want the 535 back.

    just grabbed a necchi BU MIRA at a junk shop for five bucks, missing a few parts and the finish is absolutely horrible but im planning to restore and repaint it since ive seen a lot of people say good things about them. Mine has the "wonder wheel" cam attachment, and it feels like a really well made machine. I normally sew on a bernina 117-L but as thats at home in nevada id like a good machine to have at my parents place on the east coast for visiting. Thanks for the video it was really helpful

    My 93 year old mother has a pristine Necchi BU Nova. She purchased it new in 1953 or 1954. Unfortunately, the knee control unit stopped working and we are trying to find a replacement. She prefers the knee control but will use a foot control if that is all that is available. There are several foot controls available online, but we are unsure which model will work with the machine. The cord is 2 prong.

    • @thesergeant3524
      @thesergeant3524  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any foot or knee control will work with the machine. The vintage speed controllers are quite basically and are universal.

  • @ellellbee
    @ellellbee 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can you tell me why you say that you like the BU Nova more than the BU Mira? What are the differences other than the 2 speed motor and the better light on the Mira which seem to me to make the Mira more appealing. I am still BU hunting and your advice is always appreciated.

    Do you have issues with the paint on these old Necchi machines?
    I'm not sure if it's the paint or the japanned lacquer but something's flaking off on mine
    Oh by the way, my BU Nova came with the ORIGINAL RECEIPT and WARRANTY CARD (both of which match both the serial number and the dealer decal on the side!)
    This machine cost $379.50 in 1953 - that's more than $3,400 adjusted for inflation! They call these the Ferraris of sewing machines for a reason...

    • @FaunaCooper
      @FaunaCooper 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Josh Frank I just got one and the paint is very crazed on the bed. Not sure how to address it.

    • @joshfrank5739
      @joshfrank5739 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Laura, unfortunately there is no way to address it - besides relacquering or repainting the machine which requires a complete disassembly/reassembly to protect the machine's moving parts - a very daunting project. You can slow the paint crazing down, but you can't really stop it. This a common problem on machines made in the 1940s and 50s, before polyurethane lacquer was widely used.
      I have heard that some folks have gotten really good results with a little caranuba wax from Advance Auto Parts or PepBoys, applied gently to the affected area. Just make sure none of that stuff gets into the moving parts of the machine because that'll seriously gum things up.

    • @ellellbee
      @ellellbee 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check into French Polish. It can be done on sewing machines with good results. It bit of a touch to doing it but there are some good TH-cam videos on it.

    What a fabulous machine you have; I just picked me up a (Japanese clone Universal) boy almost identical. You talk about sturdy and smooth, one of my favorites. Imagine, zig zag back then, 1.2amp motor quite and strong. I do have a question for you, on one of the models or perhaps more, you can add an additional zig zag attachment next to the wheel that will give you additional cams, dose this attachment operate by the wheel turning or is it totally independent?

    • @thesergeant3524
      @thesergeant3524  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It engages the handwheel and has a large tire. I have another video on a BU Mira that shows it in action. These are definitely great machines. Enjoy your new machine!

    Out of a hole in the back. We changed the wires cuz they were so brittle and old. Problem is how do I plug into wall ? It’s not grounded so can’t use three prong female. Any suggestions??

    can this macihne topstitch on leather and vinyl? I notice the walking foot machines and compound needle machines are used for this. But they are so expensive. Any ideas?

    • @thesergeant3524
      @thesergeant3524  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The machine is strong enough to pierce leather/vinyl but the issue you're going to run into is the feeding of the machine. When the material gets thick, or it's tacky, like vinyl, the machine will have issues feeding it through cosistently. You'll end up with stitches that are short in length and inconsistent between thickness. It really depends on what you're making though. If you're trying to do upholstery you're going to struggle on a machine like this. Your best bet would be to get a walking foot or compound feed machine. If you're on a budget look for an old Singer 111W155. Goodluck!
