Loading a bobbin case on a vintage 1950s Necchi BF Mira.
Stitching is made of two threads: a top thread and a bottom thread. The bottom thread is wound around a bobbin. The bobbin is then placed in some sort of casing/holder.
This bobbin case design is common in vintage sewing machines. Bobbin tension, catching the bobbin thread with the top thread, and many other mechanisms in vintage machines are also the same in modern machines, however.
