hi baseball .. did you ever find out why your old canon camcorder have black screen? i have same problem..same model...menu work ok but when in camaera mode no image on screen or viewfinder..just black..so it seems to be a camera issue not screen issue.

I cleaned the laser twice and it will only read cds not dvds.
