    Yet again, wonderfully selflessly insightful. RCK, it’s not just your beautiful songwriting and your enthusiasm for process, it’s also about how much you give back. Song writing and production is so personal, private, sacred even; yet you have allowed people to experience that place and that journey with you - not many people are gracious to the extent that they are prepared to share that level of themselves. Truly inspiring.

      Maybe they down vote cause 1 they don't like the sound or possibly they do not like her process her choice of sounds. I didn't down vote it but could say can't say I like her process. It's fine for her. I don't use samples and throw stuff around I always use a rythmn or solo melody myself. Again different people do different things but this seems more like it's all about the computer at the centre and expensive equipment. I know a ton of musicians who use next to nothing to write their songs . Again im only showing why some people might down vote it .

    I've been using Ableton for a few years now, but it's always great to see how light-hearted Rachel describes the process of making music. Sometimes you just have to think less and just do it. I usually start in session view too but I'm often quite tense and Rachel makes it all look so easy and relaxed. Great video!!!

    What a fun "walkthrough" of your methodology. Listening to you explain your process reinforces my own self-taught technique. A bit of samples, a huge amount of knowledge of your DAW, a great library of sound sources, and a knowledge of how to manipulate those plug-ins. I have been teaching digital media for 16 years, and your ability to explain your process is outstanding (ever thought about being a music teacher?) Thanks for sharing your talents - I show your videos in my class to inspire other musicians (especially females) to pursue the craft. I also teach production sound for film at a major university... and I share your music with my students as well... I hope that one of our future Emmy winners uses your music someday.

    I remember when the first plugins came out. My god there are so many to chose from now it can be overwhelming. I write on guitar and so understanding how chords can interconnect is my way of finding melodies. I am now learning piano and so it is mainly just learning shapes as I know enough theory. Having said that there is a mountain of inspiration with DAWS and plugins to compliment or even write in a very different way. It's a never ending journey and so much fun.

  • @umanoid1523
    @umanoid1523 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Interesting way to start a track. I used to start with a synth line or melody. I now always start with the drums and bass. Ive been taking it out of ableton and starting in Maschine. I build 8-16 measure loops then import into Ableton. I duplicate for the length of the song then turn off measures and edit . Once i have a structure i start adding chords and melodies and synths. Sometimes i end up with another bassline. I also add additional drums and sfx. I add loops . Chops. Etc whatever i feel the song ends up needing. Ive been using Ableton since 1.0 and wanted to change things up with how I write things. I cant sing so end up using chops from splice or loopcloud or sometimes movie dialogue if it isn’t pure a instrumental track. Its cool to hear how you improvise singing to get some vocal melody for your tracks.

    Our hands are most comfortable with only some types of chords, so by jamming the keyboard our hands produce the same song all over again. We should really detach ourselves from the keyboard to get out of the comfort zone.

    Love the Vibe .. love your process .. Love your accent .. In the 60's there was a group of writers & ' Beat Poets ' who used what they called the " Stream of conciousness " but tapping into the unconcious inspired by some famous Psychiatrist whose name I've forgotten .. But it 's like that therapy technique I say a word & you say the 1st word that comes into your head . Bob Dylan used to use it in some of his early work & is more easily understood than some of the others .. I read a lot of it in the 70's when I was in school & a lot of it was ( to me ) a Bit Emperors new Clothes .. I hope you know the story .. About the Emperoror's New Clothes .. ??? Anyway as much as i thought a lot was not very good it did influence me in my writing .. Back then I used to write poetry / Lyrics & then hang around the Girls Typing classes .. where they used to train Secretaries lol .. Reception on the phone is now mostly A.I. robots press 3 if you want to speak to a real person lol . Anyway .. even with me being a bit dyslexic I still managed to hang around a lot of the older girls . Shameless I was a Book Carrying wide eyed puppy dog for any girl a bit older . Still shameless & still writing .. I will try not to write any more longer comments . I tried Ableton lite & I couldn't see the screen on my laptop & The wi Fi connection here is useless .. So I have gone down the route of Cubase .. which I really don't understand what I am doing lol But mainly I am Old school using mixers & multitrak recorders .. little pre amps & Keyboards that do not need computers but can be used with computers .. I play a little bit of Bass & I am learning the drums ( Not very well but at least I don't just smash the cymbals all the time ) Sadly I cannot carry a tune in a bucket lol .. But I have to be my own boss & as I am 65 & it's just a purely Non profit making hobby for me that is ok. I wish you everything you wish for yourself stay safe & keep on you are Amazing & inspiring .. Ps. I am sorry I don't have any spare cash to send you just my small pension .. But I am sure you will do well without me .. Happy Holidays ( if you read this ? ) it will soon be Christmas . Bye

    Typically I song write with an acoustic guitar first as it's always been my favorite way to write because it feels more intimate and stripped down. Electronic music is a whole different world for me, and it's really fun to dive in and experiment with sounds! I love the tip about creating an A & B section before laying down any vocals... I've found myself having similar issues with that when I'm jumping in to record/create instrument tracks with a beat. Thanks for the inspiration :)

    I love to sing and have like tones of ideas in my head but I'm stuck in my production because of the lack of my "technical" skills with Ableton and all that. I feel that you will be my liberation and a big step forward something very important in my production
