This. The amount of beginner-friendly yet useful information you managed to pack into this while keeping it so chill is nuts. Fastest 23 minutes of my life, and I don't even have a Push lol. idk why you randomly popped into my YT feed, maybe the almighty algorithm will make this video explode someday, who knows :) Anyways, keep up the good work, you're a great teacher and a wonderful singer! You just got a new follower on both YT & Twitch
I’ve been searching for a video that can actually make me understand how things work and here my search ends and I am fully satisfied with the content and how you have explained each and almost every points. Would love to take lessons from you if you provide. Please let me know. More power!!
Thank you for this! Ive been wanting to try live looping like this for awhile and your video is the most clearly explained that ive seen. Really nice job.
I legitimately expected to not understand anything in this video. I ended up being fascinated by the process and gaining some insights. I will probably never be able to use this information, but have enjoyed the experience of obtaining it.
Thanks so much Alanna ; merci i bought my push 2 because of you haha and now once again you learn me what i did not dare to ask you on Twitch how you do all these loop with push. You answer all my question. So Many thanks
This is the most useful, efficient and succinct video I have seen on this exact topic in a week of looking for videos on this topic. The algorithm finally suggested it on my main page. Thanks for this
Thank you so so... so so much haha. I borrowed a Push 2 from a friend and have been trying to wrap my head around a proper workflow after learning how to load and record instruments, and this video was by far the best i've found so far (much better than the Ableton produced videos, imo)
Very well done and explained. This groove box has confounded me the most, and I have several. Finally, someone not so lingo cryptic, in a way that's easy to process. Like! 🎉
Thank you!!! This is the set up and work flow I would like to have when I get the Push and Komplet Kontrol!!! Play my keys on NI KK and drums on Push!!!
Many thanks for this video. You are a very talented musician and a very good teacher. Pleaaseee 🙏 make more videos like this! A detailed step by step breakdown of all the tracks/sends/groups would be goddess gift 🥰. You got a new follower from Spain. Thank you!
You just solved a major issue for me. I've been hunting for the best live looping configuration. I tried two Arturia Keystep Pros which I really like but I have a larger setup and like recording raw audio too. I tried the MPC Live 2 which is really great but still didn't have the workflow I needed. Ableton with the push controller for recording and launching clips and editing the loop points along with a Novation Launch Control XL for dedicated level mixing is the ultimate setup. Thank you again!
I did not know about the looper plug-in! Thanks for doing this! I’ve been wanting to do more looping like this bc there are limits with my loop pedal. You’re the best! I’m probably gonna watch this a few times
Literally building a live set right now and am gonna sneakily record my chorus to then play back and harmonize over. Awesome video. Thanks for the good vibes.
This is by far one of the best videos on YT explaining how Push is working in a way that I want to use it. You did a great job, have a great talent and I love your calm way of explaining....and you are a great musician ;) Many thanks!
very well explained and when the voice came in it was wow I got goose bumps. Perfect video learning by doing. Thank you so much its been a big help on deciding to buy it.
Beautiful explanation. I’ve seen most of this info before but it’s great seeing it all in one place and so cohesively presented. Beautiful song and voice as well. Subscribed! Thanks so much.
Thanks Alanna! So many ways to use looper and I have been struggling with which one works best for me. One tip I just love is how you map the looper controls to the Akai! You showed me that I don't need the record button and can just use the "+" button for both record and overdub - then the 4 buttons on the Akai can include the clear button! Thanks!
This was easily the best tutorial I've seen on this (and I've paid for some). You made this so incredibly easy to understand. Well done! Absolutely fantastic
Thank you Alanna. Love your voice and harmonies, great video! I have a push2 on order, so thanks for giving me s clear understanding of how to go about looping, i currently use a Boss rc10r looper pedal and it's very limiting. Keep doing you! ☺
Thanks so much for this Video Alanna!!! Super helpful, easy to comprehend and entertaining to watch! I have learned there are like 10 things i can immediately do to speed up my workflow and its really awesome to see the details up close!!! 1. What are the pros/cons of using the looper plugin vs having multiple vocal tracks to clip-launch ?(latency aside) and just generally more detail about the whole looper plugin set up. 2. the sustain pedal issues in Ableton live are a nightmare. workaround explanations would be awesome, especially for live looping. 3. might just be because i'm a major nerd when it comes to this stuff but a detailed step by step breakdown of all the tracks/sends/groups would be really fun to watch.(and learn from)
2 and 3 deserve their own video BUT having less tracks (especially for vocals) is great for limiting CPU usage, but also not having to record enable each track to record single loops saves a pile of time. The only con with the plug-in is very slight compression as you add more layers, but it’s barely noticeable imo
Finally got myself a novation launch pad pro with ableton lite to try this kinda stuff out. this was super helpful thanks Alanna! now it seems i gotta setup some templates, get used to looping and how the timing works, and practice my instruments again 😂.
This is awesome break down of your process Alanna! Thank you for shearing this with us noobie looper musicians. I am just getting my feet wet with Ableton, this helps a lot! Keep em coming !!
Awesome Vid, I love the idea of the looper on sends, can't believe I didn't think of that before, and using the LPD8. I find the long press to arm a real pain. I Have put something in options.txt to arm on select and turn of select on launch so arm is instant. I only ever record one channel at once so this works for me. But I like what you say, this is the way you vibe with it, every one is different and that's the beauty of Ableton. And also I have to say your voice, keyboard skills and song arrangement are awesome, and you teaching skills are amazing too. You have made my day and given me new inspiration and ideas.. Thank you. Obviously I had to subscribe too.
Subscribed! And looking forward to watching more of your work. Wish you the best in your music! Would love your input for a total newbie. I've been day dreaming about making music for years now... But I always fail in starting. The distractions of life and work being the driving force against me trying things out seriously. My only "genuine"experience is playing bass guitar in highschool and that's over a decade ago (time flies hot damn). Other than that, over the last 8 years I keep buying random musical instruments just because it attracts me so much! Ukelele, harmonica, Kalimba... Ops haha. Nevertheless last year I started getting obsessed with the idea of learning how to make music with FL Studio / Ableton and a midi controller. So I ended up buying the Novation Launchkey mini intending to take online courses and yt lessons on how to use it for FL studio, specifically lofi and looping.. Again sadly however life hit hard and months and months flew by. TL:DR... Novation Launchkey mini, learning from scratch. Ableton or FL Studio? Any advice beyond choosing the software? Thanks for your time and effort, and sorry for the wall of text haha.
What a godsend this video was! I am currently setting up my live looping for twitch and this was just what I needed, thank you so much. 2 questions : I remember there was a way to make Ableton adjust the global bpm to the length of the first clip that’s being recorded, is there a way to s into this setup? Also, how does plugging in a pedal into the second jack of the push2 to trigger recording this? Any experience in doing it that way?
Hello! 1) Yes there is a way to do this, but I haven’t played around much with it. I think it was added in a relatively recent update. I find personally that I don’t mind setting the bpm manually, I have a few songs that I’ve actually made notes of what Bpm I like so that I don’t have to tap 2) I’ve never played with that actually! I imagine it would work similarly to triggering with another midi device though, I’d be curious to know how it goes :)
This video is criminally underviewed and underrated; The combination of engaging but helpful description *and* musicianship is ✨S✨T✨E✨L✨L✨A✨R✨!

Wow thank you!

Thank you for this! Ive been wanting to try live looping like this for awhile and your video is the most clearly explained that ive seen. Really nice job.
YOU DID IT! You made it understandable and enjoyable. Thank you so much Alanna!
This is pretty much the first demo I've seen on this topic that isn’t in complete techno-babble and really makes sense. Thank you!!!!
I legitimately expected to not understand anything in this video. I ended up being fascinated by the process and gaining some insights. I will probably never be able to use this information, but have enjoyed the experience of obtaining it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Been messing with the Push since Push 1 came out waaay back, and I learned a few shortcuts here I never knew existed. Great video. Thanks!
very helpful. good workflow
Alanna, the way you explain everything is beyond what I saw up to now, thank you so much. I could learn so much from you in a couple of minutes.
Thanks for this
that's so impressive. it's wild that you can not only carry a conversation, but actively explain what you're doing while making that gorgeous track
Honestly have no way to explain how much time this is saved and frustration with wrong setting I had haha thank you 🙏 love your work!
Awesome work, you've clearly explained how the magic happens while demonstrating that it's still very much magical ❤
Glad it keeps a little bit of the magic haha
don't have anything to add, just commenting to help boost the algorithm for this fantastically informative video. thanks for sharing your process
Thank you so so... so so much haha. I borrowed a Push 2 from a friend and have been trying to wrap my head around a proper workflow after learning how to load and record instruments, and this video was by far the best i've found so far (much better than the Ableton produced videos, imo)
Thanks for the tutorial! Exciting to figure this out!
This is such a perfect Ableton looping video tutorial.
this is INSANELY helpful! thank you so much for making this for us looping noooobs 🖤
More than happy to
Ive watched so many live looping videos. This one got right to the point. Thanks, Great Video.
Holy crap! You did such an amazing job at demystifying your process. This was seriously inspiring!!
I bought a push 2 because of your videos, and it's helped so much. Your videos are amazing, really appreciate you
I’ve been using push 2 for 6 years and this video was so helpful. So talented and such a great teacher. Amazing
Many thanks for this video. You are a very talented musician and a very good teacher. Pleaaseee 🙏 make more videos like this! A detailed step by step breakdown of all the tracks/sends/groups would be goddess gift 🥰. You got a new follower from Spain. Thank you!
of all the looping explanations this is by far the best one, please post more live looping content. you're goated

Your tutorial was very insightful and the chord progressions that you used made it a joy to watch and listen to. Thank you!
you give great reviews and demonstrations! and you are pleasant to listen to. the other push tutorials are really annoying and all over the place.
nicely done, easy to understand and also a very pleasant voice
Thank you Alanna~very useful~ could you take a video of how you set up your gear?
Finale I understood the power in using Push2 🎉 thank you so much!
Amazing! Thank you so much for taking the time to share how you do things with Live and Push.
what a magical vocals you've got !! the harmonization everything just amazing
I did not know about the looper plug-in! Thanks for doing this! I’ve been wanting to do more looping like this bc there are limits with my loop pedal. You’re the best! I’m probably gonna watch this a few times

Hell yeah! A great trick
thanks for the clear explanation of your looping process. really like you voice and the lyrics of this song.

Very nice, thank you! Learned several new things, duplicating, press and hold to arm. I’m only 6mins in! Great work!
very well explained and when the voice came in it was wow I got goose bumps. Perfect video learning by doing. Thank you so much its been a big help on deciding to buy it.

Very helpful. Amazing job! Very thankful for you!
Competent, kind, nice and really good. I just ordered the Push 2, so I'll be forced to learn Ableton 😉 Signed up. 🎹🙏💯
This is such a beautiful explanation of how the push 2 and abelton work. Thank you! This video alone saved me soooo much time, effort, and money!
This was easily the best tutorial I've seen on this (and I've paid for some). You made this so incredibly easy to understand. Well done! Absolutely fantastic

A friend showed me that a while ago and it was one of those “how on earth did I not think of that” moments. Happy to pass it along!
