This demonstrates dramatically how economic opportunity releases human potential. In a scenario from Mark Twain's "The Prince and the Pauoer", a person born with no known genetic advantage becomes successful in a nurturing environment, while a person born without is quite limited, despite a lifetime of effort.
The craziest part about this story, is that many people in the comments are writing that this was very unfair for the truck driver, and that he deserves a large compensation, but are completely fine with other people being born into poverty without compensation. Neither the truck driver nor the CEO deserved to be born into poverty or wealth, because those things are only decided by fate, and I think it is quite concerning that people believe, that it is fair, that many children grow up in poverty.
Was waiting for this comment 👍👍👍Yes, there is nothing inherently unfair that the rich kid became poor and the poor kid became rich. In the end we still have one person with undeserved wealth and one person with undeserved povetry. What really unfair is that there are people with undeserved wealth and people trapped in povetry. I don't believe that you deserve wealth (or povetry) based on your family being rich/poor
Lmao, you clearly don’t know corporations. Of course he’s not suddenly going to surrender his wealth, or even half of his wealth, just because he never would have had it had he been with his ‘peasant parents’. (Notice he never even bothered to see them after this became known.)

There is so much depth to this story on so many levels One) goes to show even though this guy had the “smart rich parents” genes he still struggled to make his own money goes to show how important it is to have support 2) all Asians look the same
Stories like this seem to be happening all over the world, and makes me a little anxious that one day when I have a baby I’d be scared to have it out of sight in case something like this happens
60 years of pain and suffering and only $370.000 in compensation? At that point in life, he had limited use of that money, health is probably failing so he can't use it to eat, travel, etc. Best thing that money could do is probably being inherited to his children if there is any.
No amount of money can ever replace the loss in this mans life but i am so happy and blessed to know that he found happiness with the family and friends that he was given.
I appreciate him for not being mad at the other guy. *He didn't choose to get swapped either, and did put effort into his life to get the title he has now*
People seem not to be looking at the big picture here, as I see it, this is a social dilemma, did that guy deserve to live in poverty? If not, why so? Just because his biological parents were rich? And on the other hand, did the guy who ended up becoming a CEO deserve a life of poverty more so than the one raised in it? I don't think anyone deserves a life of poverty or is owed a life of riches, but that's not the fault of either family, nor is it the hospital's
Well, the guy that had the life of poverty may not have technically *deserved* a life of riches just because he was the son of rich parents, they were his biological parents, and I don’t doubt he would’ve been in the same place as the other guy had he not been accidentally swapped, and the same vice versa. So while neither of the two actually deserved a life of poverty, the rich parents should’ve been the ones to care for the guy in the video, and the poor parents, for the other, because it’s only fair, and it may not have been either family’s fault, but it was most definitely the hospital’s, as they were the ones to switch the two, even if it was on accident, they involuntarily caused the two to never met their real parents, and for 60 years, completely change their lives
There are thousands of cases similar to this ones around the world. I met two cases in two different cities when I was younger. One of the cases was resolved in a few months but one took 18 years to unravel when the two boys, friends and colleagues since elementary school, discussed their relationships and differences with their parents.
Ok then, go out and become rich then if you think it has nothing to do with skill or ability. Some are fortunate enough to be born into it, most have to go out and earn it. If you don’t that’s your choice to not make something of yourself.

They weren't just "parents". They were parents.
He deserves more money, but this is a good example of having the right kind of mindset. He chose to be grateful for what he had.

$ 3OOK FOR EVERY YEAR HE WAS OUT OF HIS LIFE.
His compensation was pitiful.

In Japan its 8 years worth of salary. Still, at 60 when i already have nothing to lose, I'd probably "accidentally" Cause a lot of destruction with those money out of pure spite for what my life could've been.
But again, that's 8 years worth of salary, he can at least get a nice vacation out of that.
To reveal after 60 years is such a tragedy. He might have got the money but his prime life is long gone.
Horror stories like this is why I made sure my baby never left my sight from birth until I familiarised myself with my kid's looks and features.
There is so much depth to this story on so many levels
One) goes to show even though this guy had the “smart rich parents” genes he still struggled to make his own money goes to show how important it is to have support
2) all Asians look the same
Stories like this seem to be happening all over the world, and makes me a little anxious that one day when I have a baby I’d be scared to have it out of sight in case something like this happens
I heard about a new mother using a non toxic marker on her newborn... doesn't seem like a bad idea now. Better safe than sorry
The only problem is it was told to him. If that info didn't come out he still lived a happy life.
60 years of pain and suffering and only $370.000 in compensation? At that point in life, he had limited use of that money, health is probably failing so he can't use it to eat, travel, etc. Best thing that money could do is probably being inherited to his children if there is any.
If he works and makes no money, that's his fault.

i dun git it, how ken uh p00r pursin' bcum uh see-EEE-Oh???
People seem not to be looking at the big picture here, as I see it, this is a social dilemma, did that guy deserve to live in poverty? If not, why so? Just because his biological parents were rich?
And on the other hand, did the guy who ended up becoming a CEO deserve a life of poverty more so than the one raised in it?
I don't think anyone deserves a life of poverty or is owed a life of riches, but that's not the fault of either family, nor is it the hospital's
Exactly what I was thinking
There is always going to be ignorance on both sides who don’t think like that.
